October 7, 2006..... That is when I purchased this unit from P.C. Richards. The salesman told me how great this television was, with absolutely "no returns". The picture looked great and the price was good. I did a little research on-line, and only heard positive things about this unit. So I purchased it.
After I got it home, I was able to really give it the test, without the noise from the store. The picture quality is not bad, but the sound is terrible. Its impossible to hear this unit in a living room with kids or people talking. The volume does not go that loud, and if you do decide to turn-it-up, the sound is distorted. So, I purchased a surround sound system, and that took care of that. So if you buy this unit, be prepared to also buy a surround sound system.
In July 2007, a black line appeared on the left hand side of my screen. The unit is not even a year old, and it has to go in the shop for repairs.
Maybe I just got a bad unit, or maybe there is a surprise awaiting all those happy purchasers who wrote all those great reviews. On: 2007-05-10
I also own a 50" plasma from Maxent. Comparing both, the image from Maxent is much sharper and crispier than the Audiovox FPE3205. This tv is in the kids room and to them it really does not matter. They are happy. On: 2006-06-23
Bought this from BJs as a display model for 650 BUCKS! Awesome picture..sound quality leaves something to be desired but I corrected that with a $35 surround sound system from Wal Mart. On: 2006-06-06
Picked this up at BJs for $899 with the mount included. Very easy to mount on the wall (took approx. 1 hour). Excellent picture that is able to be custom fit to your liking. Sound is a little weak, but suffices for most viewing. I have it hooked to a DirectTv box, and the setup was very easy. All in all, this is a great HDTV for the price. Highly recommend! A perfectly wonderful monitor/tv. I got it for $999 at b.j.s. Hi-def is crisp and clear, PC input is amazing, 2 video inputs (2 reg and 2 hi-def) plus a tuner.
minor gripes: PIP only works when PC is being used... I dont know why they did that. Remote is really weird to change sources. I like to just continue "chan up/down" to got to next source like a vcr or my old phillips TV...
but really, folks, the color is crisp and clear and totally adjustable to my liking.
pros-
Price! Screen! Resolution! Clarity!!!
cons-
built-in sound is awful, external stereo required...
PIP only works when PC is hooked-up...
