These speakers slam! Can handle more watts than specs say after subs are broke in. I have a Hifonics BXI1206 D class mono amp running two of these wired to 1ohm load, 4 gauge wire to power amp, and no capacitor. My lights DO NOT dim as the spaekers hit. VERY LOUD!!! On: 2008-05-06
The Alpine type -R. Where do I begin? Ive been in the car audio scene before I could legally drive. I am now 30 years old and still enjoy it. Dont get me wrong, there are a few subwoofers that outclass the type-r in my OPINION. i.e. L7s (kicker), and the W7s (JL) but for the price.... they cant be touched. I cant believe someone would put these under audiobahn. The alpine type-r will not fall apart, blow, or distort if matched with the proper amp and wired correctly. I was so impressed I am now curious if something for a $100 dollars sounds so good what do the type-xs sound like. Might have to buy a pair and find out. If you seriously want a great and powerful system for under a thousand dollars go with the type-rs as your subs. Dont cheap out and go audiobahn, lanzar, soundstream, sony, or any other cheaply priced and manufactured subs. Those subs are priced under 50 dollars for a reason. One alternative is power acoustik. We murdered a soundstream demo vehicle during a sound off at a grand opening of a electronics store that is "ultimate" with a power acoustik based system. On: 2008-04-21
Great product, and geat price. The price was nearly 1/2 being offered by one of the big box retailers On: 2008-03-30
this sub will take abuse, its bullet proof weather ur bumping at 200w or slammming it at 1000w dont forget ur ear plugs and a tube of rear view mirror adhiesive. On: 2008-01-13
The sounds is crisp and clean! The bass is not overwhelming at all...but can be as powerful as you can stand. On: 2007-08-14
I bought this sub 2 years ago and it is great. I like how loud it can get while still maintaining good sound quality. This is a great sub for someone looking to get into car audio. It can be found online for half the cost of what retail stores like best buy and circuit city sell it for. On: 2007-07-15
There is not a single thing wrong with this sub. The sound quality is perfect and when you want it to, it will blow you away with smooth powerful bass. I have it wired to an alpine MRP-M650 amp and it sounds perfect. Its actually better than the two twelves I had before. The best thing about is the price, you cant beat it. Trust me, I did a lot of shopping before I picked this one. I listen to a lot of rock, techno, and some rap. This sub sounds great with it all. I highly recommend it. Someguy (the other reviewer) either needs to tune his amp or buy a better one. The bas IS deep and it IS most definitely clean. Dont get me wrong, this thing does have the power to bring the apocalypse but that is why you can adjust your amp to your preference. On: 2006-07-24
First off, you should know that for some people this will be a very good subwoofer. If your only concern is with SPL, i.e. having a sub that causes hearing loss, head-aches and makes your neighbors yearn for your death, then this is a fantastic choice. However, if you are actually concerned with the musical quality of your bass then you need to look elsewhere. This sub doesnt play deep, it doesnt play clean, it simply eminates a tremendous quantity of bass that isnt worth hearing. The bass reproduced by this sub sounds simply like power converted into sound and not an actual element of music. Im sure people who own this sub are very proud of how much it makes the rear-view mirror rattle, as well as the amount of attention they are able to garner as they cruise past wal-mart with the windows down; but I fail to believe anyone really truly enjoys the sound that is created by this discus of decibals. In short, if you want loud (and all you want is loud), consider getting this sub. If you want a sub that actually sounds good, try kicker/rockford/soundstream/audiobahn/boston or some other brand that realizes bass isnt simply a frequency that makes your trunk sound like the apocolypse is beginning, its an actual element of music.
