Bad Unit. Bad Service.     On: 2006-08-27

Sirius sateliete has a problem. I actually like the service and what they offer. But in terms of customer support, they are awful. Ive called day after day after day only to be told that their computers are updating and that they cannot access my account to do any maintinence.....every time they claim..its unscheduled and just an amazing fluke.

I have sent them email after email..only to be told that my issue has to be resolved over the phone....its a total catch 22.

my unit recently stopped working..but nobody can provide me the info to get in contact with the warranty department...because their systems are ALWAYS down.
garbage unit. garbage customer service.
Absolute Garbage     On: 2006-05-11

I got about 4 months out of this thing. Worse tech support on the planet. Called 4 times and it was a different problem everytime? Unit works for 10 minutes then losses signal.
JUNK! Waste Of Money!! AVOID!!     On: 2006-03-17

If it breaks after 30 days, you are screwed! Sirius will not replace it. You will spend frustrating hours going in circles until you give up. The 1 year manufacturer warranty stated in the manual is FALSE! Mine died after 3 months. Prior to that the antenna broke. Very cheap design and parts. So if you want to spend endless hours talking to inept Sirius customer service reps (calls are re-routed to India) then go ahead and buy this junk. I ended up filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau and buying another radio
Outstanding customer service from Amazon
by: Anonymous    On: 2006-02-27

My purchase of the Sirius Satellite radio was handled in an extreem professional way. From the moment I placed the order until receipt, I could not asked for a more complete sales transaction. Because of my birthday, I received another Sirius Starmate Satellite radio and had to return mine to Amazon. There again the whole procedure was handled with outstanding service. Now, when ever I desire to make a purchase on the Web "Amazon" is the first place I go. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

A satisfied consumer.
Good Receiver/Lousy Installation Instructions     On: 2006-01-21

Ive had Starmate ST1 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver since June 2005 and once you get this unit working, It is Great!!! If you are into electronics its not hard to figure out, but if youre not familiar with an FM Frequency and FM transmitters, youre going to have a bit of a rough time (Seek Help its worth the trouble). Once you get the signal working in your home and figure out which FM Frequency to use, all you have to do is turn on any radio in your house to that frequency and start listening. I take this unit everywhere. I use it at Home, work and in the Car.
The remote control caused the battery (CR2025) to die out within a week (I went through at least 3 Batteries), after the manufacturer refused to replace the remote, I tried a thicker battery and I havent had any problems since. I believe the battery is a DL2032.

Enjoy
Grabage in Garbage out     On: 2006-01-08

All I can say is WOW, what a piece of junk. It arrived defective; the FM transmitter wouldnt work properly. It kept losing the signal to my car radio. I tried numerous static stations but always the same thing. No signal to the radio or I would get signal for about 10 mins then gone... The only thing more frustrating than this was the customer support I received from Sirius. I was a Sirius customer for approximately 24 hours and I can honestly say that I have never witnessed worse customer service or technical assistance in my life. My last call with their "support" lasted approximately 50 minutes and I was bounced around from one person to the next like a pinball. Each time I was forwarded to someone else they asked me the same questions over and over again. A little advice Sirius, have your reps take notes on their computers so this follows the customer as they passed around the "black hole" of service. At least they wont be asked the same questions over and over, trust me the answers wont change. I was so frustrated I ended up cancelling my subscription and am now in the process of sending my defective Sirius radio back and looking at XM instead. Not only have they wasted 3 hours of my life dealing with this, but they will also be keeping my activation fee. Nice. Even though I had the service for 24 hours and in that time it barely worked. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this product and the Sirius service.
Absolute piece of junk     On: 2005-12-21

I was attracted to this unit by its low price, but I soon realized that you get what you pay for. I went through three of these and each one lasted less than 2 weeks.

The first one worked fine for about a week, then the signal started dropping. I spoke with Sirius customer service and they told me that where I live (Orange County, just south of Los Angeles) I shouldnt be getting any signal drops and that the unit was most likely defective.

I exchanged it for a new one and had it less than 48 hours when the remote control stopped working, so back to the store it went.

The third one I got worked fine for about ten days until it stopped playing music. The artist would appear in the screen, but all I would hear is a loud hiss. I messed with the FM Modulator settings, but nothing worked. I returned it to the store for a refund.
Okay if it doesnt break     On: 2005-12-04

The unit itself is simple and functional, as long as it is working. My 5 month old unit broke in mid-October. It is now Dec 4, and I have not been able to receive a replacement. ON October 22nd I was told it would be two weeks. Since that time I have spent over 3 hours on the phone and submitted over 10 emails. I have been told things such as "it would be easier for you to just go buy a new one" and "well it will be another 4-8 weeks, thats company policy". I have spoken with managers and supervisors, with the results even more insulting. One manager told me "oh yea it shipped on Novemeber 9". Well that was a lie, and of course no will acknowledge any problem. They simply say it will ship when its ready.
Between Starmate and Sirius, I am no longer sure the effort is worth it for Howard Stern.
Decent, but not great     On: 2005-12-04

Like other reviews, this unit can be very difficult to install into a car. The suction cup for mounting is almost worthless unless you try and try to get it to stick properly. Running the wires can take a good amount of time, unless you dont care if they just hang freely.

I am from the Washington DC metro area so trying to listen to the unit while driving downtown around large buildings is almost impossible. There are constant loss of signal messages accompanied with choppy playback.

However, I have used it on long road trips and was completely satisfied with the unit. There were no interuptions on the playback and it makes the trip much more enjoyable, especially when you can listen to traffic reports for the major cities and now what you are headed for.

I definitely recommend this product if you are constantly on the road or live outside of a big city. The selection of stations is amazing and can provide hours of listening pleasure.
Nice unit, great price     On: 2005-11-26

I have had this unit for 3 months. I mainly use it in the car, but also have the home adapter.

Pros: It installs fairly easy. If youre a cable freak, meaning you hate seeing cables, its a little time consuming to bury the cables under the carpet, but no big deal.

I use the FM transmitter to transmit the signal to my car stereo, great reception. On a 400 mile trip, I only had to adjust it once.

The remote works well. I have learned the keys on the remote, so I dont need to look at what I am pushing.

Cons:
If you move it between two cars, I have had bad luck with it keeping the station presets when you unplug power to the unit.

If your car does not have a "hot" 12v adapater that automatically turns on when the car turns on, you have to hit the power button on your unit.

Over all good unit.
Good price - Good service     On: 2005-11-23

I bought this for around $100.00 in April. I love it. The suction cup was hard to get to stick at first but once you figure it out it never comes off! I like mine so much I am buying one for my fiance for Christmas. Yes, its not the best one that you can buy, but it is reasonably priced and does its job well.
low price... low performance     On: 2005-10-24

I bought the Starmate for $50 and a $30 rebate rom Radio Shack so I cant bitch too much....wait a minute yes I can !! The mounting bracket suction cup wont hold the unit w/o falling off. The preseting feature will not store the channels I want to set in memory. The remote included is so small it would be dangerous to use in the car. I dont think I will invest any further in satellite until the home unit antennae issue is worked out, SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) won t let me screw up the sight lines of the house...now ask me why I listen to Stern..
