When the tweeter isnt blown, they are nice. However, Ive blown two of them (in the same speaker). Now that Klipsch owns them, it looks like it might be harder to order a new one. Well see.
Yes, I listen to loud music. Driven by a Yamaha HTR 5590. AS f2s in front (right tweeter blown), AS F1s rear surround, JBL studio series for front and rear center, and a Klipsch 15" sub. On: 2007-11-06

I set my friend up with these speakers. He sings opera so he likes good sound. These speakers are impressive. Now that they are selling for $200 each it is a great buy. Match them with a good receiver like th Onkyo TX8522 and you have a great system that will bring years of musical enjoyment. On: 2007-09-10
I bought these without ever hearing them. I had read a few reviews and they were recomended by a couple of knowledgeable friends so I took a chance. Im glad I did, these speakers sound as good as speakers costing $1500 or more. They sounded a little edgy right out of the box and the bass response was a little light but as they break in (50 - 100 hours)the sound becomes more refined. Clean, crisp highs, detailed mid range and tight, fast bass. Imaging just keeps getting better. Theyre not completely broken in yet but theyre still worth twice what I paid for them. I think I may need a new preamp to really explore their capabilities. On: 2007-08-25
Ive owned these speakers (as part of an Athena 5.1 speaker package) for over 3 years. Ive been extremely pleased with the performance Ive received. These speakers are attractive, and do a great job at both audio and home theater playback. For their price these speakers cant be touched. Of course, there are also plenty of professional reviews of these speakers online, all very glowing. On: 2007-08-15
The Athena AS-F2.2 is a great speaker. It has a full range, evenly balanced bass, mid range, and treble. It plays loud cleanly and in my living room matched with the center speaker. I have a Yamaha NS series set of speakers for the surrounds - right, center, and left - and three subwoofers that are powered from different amplifiers.
But, the Athena AS-F2.2 speakers arrived with damage to the cabinets in the form of scratches and crushed corners - damages that had no effect on their playing but destroyed any hopes I might have had for selling them to someone else if I chose to upgrade or change them at a later date. And, I couldnt get the seller to respond to either phone calls or emails, even though their web site was running at they were still selling through Amazon. I saved a little over the price for these from AudioAdvisor, broke even by the time shipping was included, and received two cosmetically-damaged speakers. On: 2007-07-13
Spent over a year and a half setting my home theater. Ended up going with a full Athena Audition series setup.
AS F2.2 - Fronts
AS B1.2 - Surrounds and Rears
AS C1.2 - Center
AS P4000 - Subwoofer
Just purchased the F2.2s last week, the clarity is amazing. Still allowing proper break in so I havent tested higher volumes yet. The sound is very crisp, I did notice that the trebles are a little harsh but I noticed that with the B1.2s as well during break in. They will smooth out after awhile. I gave it a 4, not due to sound quality, but they are a little too big for my taste. Visually stunning, but cant get over its girth! Build quality looks good, although for more money, you can get better looking speakers. Bang for buck, this speaker takes the cake! If not in performance, at least in size! On: 2007-02-12
I replaced my JBL bookshelf speakers with the Athena F2.2 floor models and couldnt be happier. We moved into a new home 10 months ago and we wanted to go with a floor speaker to accommodate the larger room. After listening to other brands (JBL, Klipsch, etc) at the local stores and researching speakers online, I decided to take a chance on the Athenas, even though I wasnt able to audition them. Ive had them for 8 months now and Im pleased very with my decision. As has been mentioned, they are a little harsh sounding at first, but after the break-in period, they really smoothed out. I find that they give me a very true sound that doesnt vary much as I change the volume - very even sounding is the best way I can put it. Im still using a JBL sub, but Im running it pretty low these days. I dont need it nearly as much as I did with the old bookshelf speakers.
I highly recommend you do some research online before you buy. There are better speakers out there, but I seriously doubt youll find anything better at this price point. Take a chance on the Athenas. Follow the break-in instructions. You wont be disappointed. On: 2007-02-11
In my 5.1 surround system I have 2 F1s, a C1, 2 B1s and a Sunfire sub all driven by a Panny XR55. The sound is simply amazing and IMO as good as the Martin Logans at Tweeters. The F1s have great detail, imaging, and theres no coloration. With the Panny I can drive these monsters to painful levels without a whimper of distortion. The sound is transparent, clean, and very clear. Anyone contemplating these towers would probably be sold once they hear the battle sounds from "Gladiator" or the subtle guitar frets from the Eagles, "Hotel California" ( "Hell Freezes Over" -DVD ). Diana Kralls "Live in Paris" sounds so alive on these speakers I feel shes in the room with me. These are massive towers (deeper than they are wide), quite imposing but handsome never-the-less. To say Im pleased with them is a huge understatement. On: 2005-09-11
After reading the review of the orignal AS-F2 in Stereophile I decided to check these out. I saw a great price on Amazon so I said why not. To be fair the speakers are still in the 50 hour break in period recommended by the owners manual and I have not finished tweeking my system to optimize the sound. That having been said these are good speakers for the money. As advertised they deliver a lot of pretty tight bass. Right now I find them a little harsh in the upper ranges but that could be because of the things I mentioned above. I am running them with a ADCOM GFA-5400, and an Acurus RL-11. The primary sources I have been using are an NAD C-660, an Acurus ACD-11 and a Polk xrt-12. On: 2005-09-10
