I ordered this item so that I could take my Sirius out into my garage with me. The unit is very easy to install, and works like a charm. I would highly recommend this item to anyone thinking about buying one. On: 2007-12-26
Last year I purchased the Sirius Sportster Replay, Model Number SP-TK2, for my husband for Christmas. It came with the car kit. We were both quite disappointed when shortly after the holidays, we tried to purchase the home docking kit for that radio and had absolutely no luck finding one anywhere! We even called Sirius and were told they were out of stock and we were out of luck!
I was so thrilled to see this Sirius SIR-STRH1 Streamer home docking kit at Amazon, and ordered it for my husband for Christmas this year. We hooked it up and it works wonderfully! We live in Southern California in a top-floor apartment. We put the antenna on top of a bookcase in the middle of the apartment, its not even near a window. We aimed it up through the ceiling towards the northeast and its picking up a strong signal, and our Sirius radio is working beautifully in our home now. Were very happy with this product.
So if you have an older model of the Sirius Sportster that fits into the SP-C2 docking station, then it fits perfectly into this home docking kit. On: 2007-08-09
I was upset that Sirius changed the connectors on the newer units that forced those of us who bought the "older" style to have to upgrade. My Sirius radio (bought in DECEMBER 06, was shortly after discontinued and the new home docking kits for newer units would not work. (I didnt open and use it until JUNE of 07).
This item came BRAND new, fully sealed with all parts, including one that should have been included with my radio...an antenna for the FM modulator.
It works beautifully and now I can bring my Sirius sportster inside, and still listen to Satellite radio on my Home Theatre setup.
Thank you Amazon and thank the seller who had this at a reasonable price. On: 2007-04-10
A great way to enjoy satellite radio in the comfort of home. On: 2007-03-06
I was unable to get a consistent, satisfactory signal with this unit because of the antenna; the rest of the unit worked fine.
I found that unless you had perfect exposure to the satellite that this antenna did not receive the signal very well. Also, the least movement of the connecting cord or if someone moved a blind/curtain, this would disturb the exact positioning required to make this antenna function properly.
In the end I returned this unit and got an extra car extension antenna (the one with the strong magnet); this allowed me to put an extension cord under the window sill to the outside. From here, I was able to easily find a site for the magnetic antenna that resulted in excellent satellite reception (exact positioning is not nearly as important for the magnet antenna). Since then my home unit has worked perfectly. On: 2007-01-14
If you plan to buy this and cannot mount the antenna outside, forget it. I tried it in two windows with no luck. I ended up having to run the wire throught the window and outside, it looks ugly for now but it works great. When I receive the extension I plan to run it alongside my TV cable wire and around the foundation of the house. Great sound when connected to my home stereo system. Between the car, the home dock, and the internet radio-I think I end up listening to Sirius about 6-8 hours a day. I dont think it will ever get old either. On: 2006-03-18
Having a bad view of the southern sky, I needed to get a outdoor antenna for my sirius radio. It maded all the difference. Great product and it came with 30 ft. of cable. On: 2006-03-18
I love this product. It works great and I have had no problems with it at all. The sound quality is super. I can tune in any stereo system in my home and I can listen to my music or Howard Stern. On: 2006-03-11
I listening to music and programs in my car and then take my Sportster Sat Radio inside, placed in the home docking kit to contunue enjoying without paying for 2 radio satellite subscriptions. On: 2006-03-09
Cradle is exactly the same as the car kit, so setup was very easy. The antenna will take some time to find the correct placement, but the signal will work great once that spot is found. The only complaint I have is that the length of antenna cable could have been a little longer. On: 2006-03-03
A very good product, but the fantastic part is sirius radio itself. Howard rules! On: 2006-03-03
Good product. sounds good provided you have a window in recommended direction for your area of country and not too many obstructions to sky-under eaves, higher houses etc. If this is a problem I bought a 50 additional cable which is 18 gauge a bit thicker and probably better than origanl 20 foot thin antennae so I could run to a window where it plays well at. The home kit is great idea for the P-N-Play units like the Sportster unit. I have two - one hooked up to my stereo system, another in my garage hooked up to my old Sansui stereo.
However, the Antenna that comes with it is only so-so - and must have a direct, clear path to the satellite. I dont because of trees to the North. I added the TERK SIR6 Outdoor antenna and mounted so it is just Peaking over the garage roof. I now have 100% signal quality vs. only 40% with the black antenna.
If you are SERIOUS listner, then invest in the SIR6. On: 2006-01-30
I chose Crutchfield because they were the only company showing that they still had this product. Well, not only was it backordered and not arrive for its intended gift date, it also wasnt the product listed. So now I have a credit to Crutchfield, not to Amazon, and have no desire to give the company my business. On: 2006-01-06
I am in the process of returning my 2nd home kit. "Antenna Not Detected". The unit works fine in the car, but will not recognize the antenna at home. This is a different error msg than signal lost.
Called Tech Support they suggested I return the base unit and try again. Overall my opinion of Sirius support (lack thereof) is growing daily. Sorry had issues with the initial purchase of activation. On: 2005-12-21
Ive had a great experience with both the Sportster and this home kit. Contrary to another review, my home kit did come with the FM modulator antenna and it sends the sportster signal throughout my house. I live in Philly, so were less reliant on the sky signals (we, like many cities, have ground repeaters).
The RCA connector into my stereo system gives perfect digital sound.
For those who want a boombox or to record on cassette (I will be taping Howard!), I recommend the Sony CFD-G500 CD Radio Cassette Recorder Boombox (Black). This is the only boombox I can find that has an audio-in jack. You can connect your Sportster Home kit right to the boombox and listen through the boombox. This is a better option than the Sportster Boombox because it has CD, cassette and FM capabilities, too, for less money. On: 2005-10-11
This is the way to go if you want to use your Sportster in the house. It hooks up just like any other audio component exept you dont have to use the audio cable if you dont want to. Hook it up, position the antenna, pop in your Sportster and youre done. It has four rubber feet on it that grip smooth surfaces like suction cups so it doesnt slide around when you push the buttons.
I had to take one star off because there is no antenna for the FM modulator. The cradle for the car kit includes a small antenna that will optimize the output of the FM modulator for clearer reception if you need it. A house is way bigger than a car so if you might need it in a car you really might need it in a house.
