I have many of these antennas and they all work great. I position them on the roof outside various rooms of my houses and at my parents house too. I run the line in through a window or door. That way I can put a boombox or home dock in any room that has an antenna set up and I dont have to position the antenna each time I want to go from one room to another or to another house...I just take my receiver with me and have a few boomboxes which are also easy to move.
I even use one of these in my car and truck after my Sirius car antenna stopped working. I run the antenna out the sunroof of my car and it stays in place rather well (once in a while I have to reach out the window to reposition it on the roof). In the truck it fits on the dashboard under the windshield and never moves and never loses signal unless Im in a long tunnel.
I would recommend getting several of these and posting them in the places you frequent most and then just carrying your receiver from place to place. On: 2008-02-10
I just have mine sitting on a desk in my room. On initial setup it takes some trial and error of pointing it in different directions to find the strongest signal. But once I found it, it works great. Once in a great while it seems to get some interference and I have to reposition it. But overall Im pleased with it. On: 2007-09-23
I used this antenna with a boombox. It worked fine until a sliding patio door cut the wire in half. My problem here is the sliding door was not slammed shut or mishandled. The wire seemed awfully fragile to break the way it did. If you will be putting the antenna outside, make sure the wire will not be pinched by a door or window. On: 2007-08-16
Im a veteran Sirius customer and can honestly say this item is worthless for the most part, especially if you live in Area 5 (see Sirius webpage on positioning and installaion). Never has worked in the 2 years Ive owned it, regardless if it was inside or out- sat it 75 feet away from any building with a clear sky above and still never worked. This just doesnt have a strong enough signal to pick up anything especially in area 5.
However I did find something interesting- the magnetic small car antenna works better than anything even for a home docking kit which I use it on. It will pick up a perfect signal even beside a building and obstructions above- save yourself some $$$$ and just use the antenna for the car at your home too! On: 2007-03-06
I was unable to get a consistent, satisfactory signal with this unit.
I found that unless you had perfect alignment to the satellite, that this antenna did not receive the signal consistently well. Also the least movement of the connecting cord or if someone moved the blind/curtain, this would often be enough to move the antenna and thus disturb the exact positioning required to make this antenna function properly.
In the end I returned this unit and got an extra car extension antenna (the one with the strong magnet); this allowed me to put an extension cord under the window sill to the outside. I then was able to easily find a site that gave me excellent satellite reception using the magnetic antenna(exact positioning is not nearly as demanding for the magnetic antenna). Since then my home unit has worked perfectly. On: 2007-02-13
This is a nice antenna just make sure it is close to a window or top story of home/business to get a signal.
