More Information

Coby is terrible.     On: 2008-01-15

I had this product for several months, but only used it a total of maybe ten times before it stopped working completely. Even in earlier uses it didnt work as advertised, because it wouldnt play my DVD+Rs correctly. Also this player has the worst remote control Ive ever used. The buttons are completely flat and extremely hard to push. I had a similarly priced unit from Magnavox that lasted for years, so I dont buy the whole you get what you pay for argument. This product is just poorly made. I wont be buying any more Coby DVD players.
Great buy for the value!     On: 2007-12-14

I bought an $80 Sanyo DVD Player from Best Buy that lasted a month before failing. Best Buy wouldnt refund or replace the broken DVD player, so I went online and bought this one for $35. I have been using it for about 5 months now (about 4 times a week) and I have had no problems with it. My 3-year old also figured out how to use it in under 5 minutes. I see that some people had problems with theirs but if it broke tomorrow I would still say that I got my money out of it.

almost useless     On: 2007-09-24

I was able to use this product twice before it ceased functioning. I watched one DVD over 2 sessions and when I attempted to watch another one a few weeks later, it wouldnt even power on. Truly you get what you pay for.
You're getting what you pay for.     On: 2007-09-04

This product does what it advertises and not really much else. It has progressive scan playback with component out and digital audio out. Playback quality is passable though it does not contain the technologies in higher-end dvd players to prevent pausing during layer-changes and buffer through skips and dirty disc sections. But then again, its a $40 dvd player. The remote is, well, a remote youd expect with a dvd player of this price.

This player will not take abuse or excessively heavy use. But if you break it, take consolation in the fact that you can buy 9 more before you have paid up the same for a quality Sony/Onkyo/Denon/etc. player.

Buen reproductor / El control remoto es de la edad de piedra!     On: 2007-08-21

It's don't work well     On: 2007-08-01

I both it but it worked 2 times well after that didnt read the DVDs
Nice Design but broke after second use     On: 2007-07-30

I purchased this DVD player cause i thought it was a nice original design and is half the size of a regular DVD player, but when i went to use it for the third time the unit would not turn on. Since it was older than 30 days (but less than a year) i called Coby directly. They said i had to send it to them, plus $12 to get it fixed or they would send a new one, but that it would take 4-6 weeks! Since it was only $35 I junked it and got a second Philips unit which i have never had problems with.
Horrible     On: 2007-07-16

Player would not play any region 1 discs, picture was grainy and the remote is terrible. Proof that you get what you pay for,
ok dvd player, crappy remote     On: 2007-06-11

This dvd player is alright. Picture and sound quality are good, especially considering the cheap price. However, the one big drawback is the remote, this thing is tiny and the buttons are not very responsive.
Reliable and Good Performance     On: 2007-06-10

This DVD Player is great! Works for all regions, and it is compact. Ive used it a lot and carried it to different places. No problems. I tested several dvd discs from different regions and they all work! Much better than those named brand like Sony.

Glitchy product     On: 2007-05-17

We purchase the Coby DVD-537 5.1 Channel DVD Player with Progressive Scan thinking we were getting a good deal for the price however within one night we regretted our purchase.

The Coby will not allow our TV to play Closed Caption and the subtitles from the player kept missing whole converstations. This is a very negative feature for a deaf person or those who watch tv using captions/subtitles.

The picture was quite grainy compared to our last DVD player.

The Coby remote kept glitching our sound system (we have a seperate sound system with its own remote). We finally had to cover the sound system with a heavy towel to prevent the Coby remote from constantly ajusting the sounds up and down.

When I placed a call to Coby Electronics about their product, their response was lackluster and there were no offers to help, compenstate or even thank me for letting them know. All they said was for the price we paid, glitches are to be expected.

Thankfully a call to Amazon much more satisfying and I was able to return the DVD player for a different one.

Coby DVD-537 5.1 Channel DVD Player with Progressive Scan     On: 2007-04-10

I am very happy with this DVD player so far. It is nice and small which is what we were looking for. Very easy to use too. My 5 year old son can manage to use it on his own. Also the price was right
