Great idea if you can get reception     On: 2008-07-23

I have not had much luck getting reception. One minute Ill have three bars, the next, nothing. I also got a newer sirius for our 2nd car and have been experiencing the same reception problem. The older antennas are much, much better.
Terrific docking station     On: 2007-12-06

The Executive Docking Station is a top-notch piece of hardware that provides stellar sound that is very compact and easy to move between areas in your home or backyard. For such a small product, the sound quality is amazing. I switched to this from the boombox, and it just saves to much space and is a better product. As per the other reviewers discussing the inability to get a signal, it is my understanding that it has nothing to do with the radio but the area where they live (lots of trees means you wont get the best signal possible). I highly recommend this.
Sirius is phasing this unit out     On: 2006-12-08

Look for newer generation radios and docking stations. This one is built rather cheaply. The volume level shifts sometimes when I move the unit like theres a loose connection. The aux out level is weak and tied into the speaker volume so its not too practical to connect to a home stereo. No headphone out.
cool little radio... if you can get receiption.     On: 2006-02-16

I bought this the other day. I cant get receiption at my house anywhere, even outside. I took it over to my moms house who lives 30 mins away, worked perfect. I took it home, no receiption. The very next day I took it back to my moms, no reeiption.

Sirius works perfect in my car, so I guess Ill go buy a car antenna (which costs $35 new) and try and use that instead of the home antenna it comes with and see if that might work.
Great solution for my home!     On: 2006-01-18

I bought this last night, and I really like it. I have had absolutely no antenna issues, as I put the antenna on the window sill and its been at a minimum of 2 bars and most times a full 3. The on-board clock works fine also.

I like the look of this much better than the sportster boombox I use at work, but I do feel that I could get the boombox a lot louder if i wanted.

Overall, this has been a great purchase, and completes all my sportster gear.
DON'T.     On: 2006-01-07

And heres why:

Got this thing to use with a Sportster.

My wife and I have been trying to get this thing working - meaning, positioning the antenna - for the last 2 hours. It would go to 3 bars for a second, then down to none - in the same place. It would receive ok in the exact MIDDLE of the room - held up in the air - but not in the window... It would work when hand-held, but not when in the EXACT location placed on a book or something, would not work.

It didnt work right in front of a window, but would suddenly spring to life in a position which made no sense - such as when I was standing in a ridiculous pose (making fun of the unit) and pointing it right at the ceiling.

It did receive fine.... out front of the house. Im not drilling holes for a 50 extension antenna...

So as we were exasperated and a bit stunned at what seemed to be not-ready-for-primetime technology, I decided to try something....

I took the receiver that came with the Sportster... plugged it into the Sportster unit, and plugged that into the Docking Station... instantly, 3 bars. I moved all around the room and the least I got was 2; I covered it with my body, though, and that stopped the reception. But that makes sense, unlike the laughable and erratic performance of the Directed base unit.

So, it comes down to the antenna. Frankly, if the quality of the antenna is this poor, it doesnt say much for the base unit as a whole.

1 star because without the antenna, there is no reason to own it!

And guess what? Heres a bonus critique: the display on the base unit stopped working correctly >>three minutes<< after powering it up for the first time.

Its junk as far as Im concerned, and based on the quality of the antenna that came with the Sirius unit Ill buy another one of those and look for another in-home solution.

Yes, maybe I got a bum unit. But I doubt it...
