Surprisingly Durable! Kids are still playing with toy after 2 years!!,     On: 2008-07-06

Weve had this toy for several years. My wife actually bought it for me, but my kids soon co-opted it from me. Its an enjoyable toy that has held up to the kids, though they really havent been particularly rough with it. The voice commands dont work as reliably as I would like, but the toy is fun. My kids enjoy chattering at R2, though they havent quite grasped the need to give a sequential series of commands. They especially like to watch R2 going into Dance Mode. Overall, I highly recommend it.
Really bad voice recognition     On: 2008-06-25

Visually, the kids loved it, and even non-interactive it became a friend. However, the voice recognition seemed really bad. It was really hard for my little kids to interact with it and the adults had to step in, and even for a computer programmer, it was troublesome to talk to.

About the funnest time the kids had with it, is when you beat it on the head, he complains. That feature seemed to work the most consistent (not to mention helps work out the frustration you have talking to it). :)

Garage sale wonder     On: 2008-06-23

I found my R2 at a garage sale, actually. I spent thirty on him and a few months later I learned his true value. He was completely worth thirty dollars, though and I would have probably paid three times that much if I had to. I dont play with him very often, but he is always a laugh when people come over. Theyre always so curious about the little droid sitting in my house. And since he sits in my living room, he adds to the decor as well. Hes definitely my most coveted possession.

THis product is really cute. but doesnt have a lasting effect for my son. He played with it once or twice at christmas and got frustrated because it wasnt doing what he wanted. Your voice has to be very clear and no other noise around.
Not great.     On: 2008-02-05

The other reviews and product info imply that this is great fun. Its not. The novelty wears off quickly, and as a robot, he really does not do much. My kids have not touched it in a long time.
The Force is Definitely Here     On: 2008-01-20

The wow factor is huge with this toy. A Star Wars junkie, my eight-year-old son was absolutely breathless on Christmas morning when he unwrapped his very own R2D2. The whimsical sounds and mannerisms of R2D2 absolutely come to life in your living room. It was well worth the price.
I bought R2 as a Christmas gift for my husband..     On: 2008-01-01

My husband loves his R2D2 and will be taking him to work to show off..He is a big Star Wars fan and is very pleased with his R2..Our 5 year old grandson loves watching R2D2 and loves the dance routine with music..The command responses are rather slow I think but all in all with my husband pleased that is all that matters..Even if R2D2 ends up sitting by my husbands desk it is a Christmas he will always remember fondly..Thank you..
Young Star Wars fan loves it.     On: 2007-12-28

I purchased the R2 for my 5 year old son who absolutely loves the Star Wars movies. He was very excited when he opened the gift at Christmas. Keep the directions handy to figure out how to get him to respond to you. Only probably is my 5 year old doesnt speak clearly enough for R2 to respond. The older siblings are a help though...
R2 is simply adorable, would recommend for any Star Wars fan (young or old).
R2D2 Droid for my Grandchildren.     On: 2007-12-28

My 2 grandsons loved the R2D2 Droid but I think it will be living at my home. Our floors are wood and theirs are carpeted. Its cute and they will have lots of fun giving it commands. My son (who is in his 30s and son-in-law) will be enjoying it too.

Not for a 4 year old!!!     On: 2007-12-26

I purchased this droid for my 4 year old son for Christmas. After reading all of the reviews posted on amazon I thought it would be the perfect gift. Unfortnantley, the droid does not listen at all. We have spent hours trying to understand the little creature but have had no luck. We will be returning Mr. R2 back to the galaxy that he came from. Bummer!!! My son loves star wars and I thought I was going to go down as the greatest mom in history for getting this robot. Wishful thinking was all this droid provided my ego! But the DS Lite that I got him with the star wars trilogy game was a big hit!
Great Fun     On: 2007-12-01

With in a half hour we had our R2 running after my Grandson while he laughed the hole time. I found the commands to work very easy. As a Star Wars Fan I just fell in love with this and my Grandson of 3 talked to it like it was a friend. This was a great investment. The only problem was needing all of the batteries. Now we need to get recharge D cells and AAs.

I didnt even know this toy existed. My grandson wants one for Christmas. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. It arrived professionaly packaged and in brand new condition. I highly recommend the vendor and would absolutely use them again. This was not an inexpensive item. I can hardly wait until Christmas to give this gift! The price was not as expensive as other vendors for the same item.

Grandmas toy     On: 2007-02-18

I am a star wars, star trek fan. My son gave me this for Christmas. I love it! I like just looking at it.I have loved R2 since I saw the first movie. Yes he does have a mind of his own but it is so much fun watching him do anything. These younger people cant imagine back in the 70s no one even thought that any thing like this robot would ever exist or be inexpensive to purchase. My granddaughter (16 mos) thinks he is her playmate. We have a great time every time I bring him out. I wish R2 had brothers I could make a Star Wars Room.
As expected!     On: 2007-01-23

My five year old little boy loves this robot. It was everything he hoped for.
Frustration     On: 2007-01-17

The technology in this toy is inadequate. It simply cannot perform the functions that youd expect from reading the ads. The most basic commands dont trigger the appropriate responses from the robot, so we tend to not even turn it on. The novelty wore off very quickly.

Cute, but that's all     On: 2007-01-16

We tried really hard to follow all of the instructions for R2. He didnt listen to any of the commands except to "go on patrol", and he didnt listen well to that. Hes very cute and will be a nice addition to a top shelf in my sons room, but thats about it.
A Must Have Item For Any Star Wars Fan!     On: 2007-01-16

We gave our six yr old son R2 for Christmas and it was the big hit of the day! When he unwrapped his gift and saw that it was R2 inside it was one of those priceless moments that you wish you caught on video...it even brought tears to his eyes. Now, I will say that R2 takes some getting used to. You have to say things just right and be pretty close to him when you speak to him or else he doesnt understand and will just go about doing his own thing. He definitely seems to have a mind of his own sometimes, but that is part of the fun, too. When our six yr old gets a bit older I think he will have more fun with R2. I think the recommendation for 8 and up is probably right on due to the fact that it is a bit challenging for kids to operate (can even be challenging for adults!) Even so, R2 is so cute and life like...any Star Wars fan would love it!

I was a little hesistant to purchase this toy for my 7yr old, as hes a little rough on his things and not very patient, but this one is great! The instructions are very easy to follow and the commands are simple. He loves it!
