The wife and I took this along to Germany on vacation in Sep 2006, and for a back-up to our 30D it was great. Quick into action and very non-intrusive, it goes with me just about everywhere. I often keep it in my laptop accessory bag.
If used for what it was intended (point and shoot) it is a great camera. Sharp focus, good colors, and nicely adjustable ISO and flash settings. Battery life is excellent. I go for months between charging. Higher flash usage would probably cut this back though.
The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars was the wimpy flash. You can get one of those $20 slave flashes to fill in or bounce if you like. Vary happy with it and glad we got it. Hope it lasts for a while. On: 2008-03-28
This camera is excellent. It is easy to use, easy to carry, and well made. Stick it in your pocket and never miss a shot. Get a big memory card to make it even more enjoyable. On: 2008-03-27
Best money ever spent on a camera. Durable, small, handy. Good pics but not fast enough to pick up movement in the dark. On: 2008-03-24
I love this camera!!! This was recommended to me by my neighbor who is a professional photographer. It takes great pics and short movies and has wonderful features including, but not limited to, a pet and kids mode. This means that it snaps the picture right away and it is not blurred. If you want a great camera at a great price this is it! On: 2008-03-18
I purchased this for my daughter..........She loves it. No function problems, just keep clicking. Had it about a year now and would highly recommend. On: 2008-02-28
Purchased this camera when our grand-daughter was born. Previously owned
a one megapixel elph. This light-weight compact camera takes excellent photos, is durable, and fits easily in my very small purse. Occasionally Ive had the red-eye syndrome with the babys photos, but it is easily fixed with my photo shop program. I highly recommend Canon cameras. On: 2008-02-23
I think this camera is very fast at shooting, good battery, so so picture quality, good video quality, so overall its a very good camera. The price of $[...] is the worst deal i have ever heard;i bought the camera brand new in radio shack when it first came out for Two hundred dollars ($[...]!)!! The only thing is you might want to buy a higher zoom camera, like the Samsung NV7, which on Amazon is about $[...]. Overall, the price of $[...] was just ok, but the zoom is mediocre, pictures are so so when enlarged, otherwise its a very tough, metal bodied camera with one of the beat batteries on a camera i have ever seen in a point and shoot when fully charged. For more camera reviews, go to: www.cnet.com/reviews. I currently have owned this camera for almost a year. The main reason i have it is for videos, which are 30 fps. I am now going to buy the Samsung NV7, which has 7x Opt. zoom, 2x digital, 7.2 Mega pixels, and is very sleek and stylish. Overall, i would suggest this camera if zoom is not a large concern, and you are looking for strength and sturdiness. On: 2008-02-01
I absolutely adored my SD600 Elph. The video quality was amazing. Yet I had troubles as well taking photos indoors and in low light, and when I could, they often came out grainy. This is completely contrary to all of the reviews I read. I did hours and hours of research before buying this camera (Thanks a lot, C-Net).
Now, 13 months after I bought it, I find myself just arrived in Peru, and here for the next three months, with no camera, because the lens is jammed and the camera wont even turn on now. So, I either have to buy some weird brand of camera here in Peru for three times the price, or not have any photos of Peru at all. Actually, I cant even buy a camera, since I dont have the money for it, so I guess the photos will only be those in my memory.
My advice... buy something more durable. On: 2008-02-01
My SD600 is fine. I do get shaky pictures when I use digital zoom and no tripod, even at 3X. It is a small and handy camera.
I wish I had checked out other brands more carefully as I have learned that Mr. Fujio Mitarai, the CEO of Canon Japan, is also the head of the Nippon Keidanren (Japanese Business Federation). This is the highest position to which a CEO can aspire in the Japanese business world and Mitarai is in a position to influence the Japanese whaling industry, point out the hoax of "research whaling" and ask that only cameras shoot whales. He has thus far failed to do so.
It seems a shame that Canon uses whale photos to sell cameras and yet does not use its influence to curtail Japanese harpooning and slaughter of whales for "research".
So, Id just recommend researching other brands of small digital cameras before choosing Canon. On: 2008-01-25
This is one of the last good cameras that Canon made before it decided to move onto plastic bodies and a more rounded shape such as their SD750, SD630. The SD1000 is the SD600 successor but is boxier with respect to the 600. I like the 600 because it has a sturdy body and is compact. I bought the leather case that goes with the camera and the case fits like a glove on the camera protecting it in case I drop it. The screen is a decent size and this camera is one of the few I liked which still had an optical viewfinder instead of just the LCD showing what I was going to take a picture of.
Picture quality is 4/5. I had a Sony 5MP camera before I bought this Canon one and the Sony one just had a crisp clearer picture. Canon has decent image quality nonetheless and accepts SD which is less proprietary than Sonys Memory Stick and less expensive of course. Canon also is known for the different modes in which pictures can be shot, with color especially. Its nifty if you want to play with the functions (because it has so many) and if youre hanging out with your friends and want fun pictures. Indoor shots are decent and the pictures dont tend to be blurry even when taken with an unsteady hand.
With a 2GB memory card, you can snap around 1100 pictures in 6MP format. Also the multiple snapshot function works well when youre taking candid pictures of people and at parties. You can always delete the ones you dont like later when you transfer them to the computer via a card reader or USB. Video recording is a bit on the rough side when it comes to recording a show because the image will blur in and out.
One of the bad things about the camera/video/play switch is that sometimes you mean to take a picture and you end up recording a movie which is kind of cumbersome because you miss a really great picture moment.
Its not the slimmest camera out there like the Sony T7 but it can definitely compete in the other departments like different modes and a more widely accepted memory format. If youre looking for a fashionable camera and it has to be compact as well, I would definitely recommend this camera among the others.
Battery life is 5/5. (Lithium ion battery is much better than the rechargeable AAA batteries.)
Image quality 4/5
Functionality 4/5 (buttons are a bit squished)
Cost-Benefit 5/5

This Canon takes great pictures. Its quick to turn on and quick to take pictures. The IS helps to reduce blurry pictures and the size is small enough to fit in my pocket. I also like the patch feature. It allows you to take a few pictures and patch them into one. The software is good and has a feature that will allow you to rename all your pictures. I had a Sony before and can definitely tell the difference. On: 2007-12-27
About this camera, I will write 2 words, 3 times--
Red Eye, Red Eye, Red Eye On: 2007-12-11
I bought this for my son & daughter-in-law & they love it. I love the pictures they have taken with it. On: 2007-12-07
The key to great pictures is having the camera with you when opportunities arise. How many times do you not have the DSLR when a great shot is available. For those of us who dont have time to go looking for photo ops, the key is to have a camera thats always with you.
This one takes great shots in every kind of light (has ISO 800, is every bit as versatile as anyone but a pro could possibly need, and is one of the few in this size range to keep an optical viewfinder. That means that a single battery can last through an entire vacation if you use the optical viewfinder for daytime shots. I carry one spare battery, a 1 gig SD card, and can travel anywhere, taking hundreds of perfect shots, because the camera is always in a shirt pocket or on my belt, and I can go days without the need to recharge a battery. And if you replace your memory card with a high speed memory card you get the pictures taken even faster! On: 2007-12-01
Got this camera for my little sister. She loves it. We all loved it so much we got my mom the SD1000 a year later. Its a great camera for the price, and offers great quality and a superb (unparalleled?) user interface. Very easy to use. The coolest part is when you tilt the camera your pictures tilt so you can see them in the LCD display. So cool! We all love it. And its a great price. On: 2007-11-25
Canon PowerShot SD600 6MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom
This cameras LCD screen became unusable within 2-3 months of use-it has a break that shows clearly across the screen. My daughter says it has not been dropped and had no major temperature changes. It does take good pictures, but we have to use the viewfinder. On: 2007-11-21
This nice camera is spoiled by the fact that Canon decided minimize the size of the camera and reduced the power supply from 4 AAs (like the older Canon A-40s had, for example) to only two AA batteries. And this does not work.
Its unfortunate that this this camera doesnt function very long on only two AA batteries. Ive tried every battery type known to mankind: alkaline (various models), re-chargeable types (all brands), and lithium batteries (the only type to last any length of time - perhaps 40 shots before they go bad).
Canon should have never reduced the battery supply from four (4) to two (2) AA batteries. It just doesnt work.

So far so good.....a little hard to navigate.....old cheap Kodak seemed to take better pictures....I probably am doing something wrong and dont know it? I do like the size of it along with the case I bought....battery seems to last pretty long....pretty good camera! On: 2007-10-01
I am a graphic designer, and a friend (who is a professional photographer) recommended this camera to me as an excellent point and shoot camera. - If you are looking for a camera that is easy to use, and provides fast perfect digital prints, look no further. With a rechargeable battery, and compact size, this will camera will give you a good bang for your buck On: 2007-09-26
while this camera takes great pictures,it is extremely fragile. I had it repaired once (bought it in March 07), and now it is irrepairable. Fine if you are not doing anything physical, but all I did was run with it, and that apparently wrcked the electronics. Very dissatisfied. On: 2007-08-24
This works as advertised. I replaced an older model Canon(S400) that died. I bought this one because it was one of the few that still had a viewfinder(better when you are taking pics in a very bright env) and a metal body. The newer models are all plastic and seem a bit easier to damage. I wish some of the new models did not get rid of this feature(viewfinder and metal body), an LCD panel is very hard to see in bright day light.
I have had the camera about 6 months and it performs well. I did buy an additional battery and memory card so that I would not have to interupt my picture taking. This is hope this helps. On: 2007-08-14
This is a spectacular little camera and takes beautiful pics and movies with sound. It is the quickest starting digital camera Ive ever seen. Its smaller than a pack of smokes and accessories are all over the place on the net. You are a fool if you pass on this product in the compact digital camera category. Im on about the 800th pic without a recharge in about 2 months. Great camera! On: 2007-08-09
Ive had 2 Canons and both had the lens retraction problem. No more for me. They will offer to repair if the warranty is out for $99. Or, they will offer you a refurb for, in case, $150. Not good enough...no more Canons. On: 2007-08-08
We bought one for my son a year ago and liked it so much that we picked up another for ourselves. Nice pictures can be taken without needing a rocket science degree. Has held up very well. On: 2007-07-29
We love this camera and have been happy that the video (while lower quality) is very convenient to capture with this camera. Using quicktime, the video clips can be emailed easily, too. On: 2007-07-19
I love this camera. It is small and easy to see the big display. It fits into a pocket so is always handy.I already had a Canon camera so learning to use this one was very easy. However the big display is a vulnerable area that has to be protected from being knocked while in a pocket or out of its case.Because of the large display most buttons are on the right hand side of the camera where it is difficult to operate the camera with one hand and not have thumb pressing the menu buttons while trying to take a picture. The whole camera is flimsier and more fragile than my last Canon, the Powershot Elf s100 which took several drops without damage. This one had to be sent in to be fixed at a cost of $108 after a small drop. On: 2007-07-14
I bought 2 of these around X-mas of last year for just over $200 each. I really like the camera for the ease of use. All the buttons and menu layout all are well designed and thought out enough, so that if you used a digital camera before, you dont have to read the manuel to figure out how to use all the functions. I also like the fast start up time, the long battery life, and the various functions like video, continuous shooting mode etc... None of these functions are unique to Cannon cameras though. The color rendition is excellent.
And this camera is pretty durable too. Ive carry one of these around often in my jean pocket. The view screen did get scratched up a bit, but thats my fault for keeping coins and keys in the same pocket occasionally.
What I didnt like about this camera is the quality of the pictures. Even in good light you dont get really crisp and sharp pictures. Perhaps Im not being fair here. The pictures from my Fuji2700 (only 2 mega pixels) look much crisper and sharper, but that camera is much bulkier with the bigger lens. To be fair, I have not seen better pictures from any other super compact cameras in this class either.
So, over all I would recommend this camera over any other comparable 6Mega pixel models in the same price range. Just remember that its great for taking snap shots and a bit more, but its still a compact pocket camera with limitations. On: 2007-07-10
ok, nice pictures but I had a lens error right after the 6 month warranty ran out and after a little research i found out it is quite common with canon digital cameras. So search for "lens error" or e18 lens error and canon. None of the suggestions fixed it. Nothing I can do but get a new camera and it definitely wont be a canon!!! A lot of people have had problems getting canon to even honor the warranty. On: 2007-07-10
I get a lot of comments on this camera. It is really all my family needs in terms of megapixals and is small enough to fit into our pockets. On: 2007-07-08
At first this camera was great. I bought it about 4 monhts ago and was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews regarding lens errors. Well, I should have listened to my gut feeling about this. Dropped this camera once inside my house on carpeting and that was it. It didnt fall hard and it didnt land with the lens out. The drop wasnt very bad, I would certainly think it would be a little more durable. Accidents happen, cameras should not break that easily. I will never ever buy another canon. On: 2007-07-07

This is a GREAT camera!!! I know a lot about cameras from working as a photographers assistant for 8 years and did a lot of research before I bought this camera. I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. Its a great camera for going out and I have no problem taking pics in a dark bar/club. Ive even been able to get decent hand-held pics at sporting events. You may get red eye in close group shots, but thats to be expected with the flash placed so closly to the lense. Anybody who says this camera doesnt take good pics does NOT know how to use a camera...The Auto setting is very user friendly and you should be ale to figure out the proper manual settings if you read the instructions. On: 2007-06-20
Dont get me wrong, I loved my sd600.... when it actually was working. Everything was going perfect with my camera. A week after my friend had the E16 lens error, I went to Sydney to go see the Blue mountains. I take one picture of the camp grounds, turn it off, then turn it on 20 minutes later to have this error come up and ruin my trip at sydney. Of course when you are in a place with breathtaking scenery, you are going be be bummed about not being able to capture those kodak moments.
The E16 error is a common error known throughout canon cameras, and I only found out about it after my defect. It is not covered by the warranty because they think its misuse because particles like dust or sand can get in. THEN WHY GIVE A BEACH AUTO FEATURE, DO YOU WANT US TO BREAK OUR CAMERAS?!
My question is, how come so many other brands of camera dont get the lens error as common as canon does. 2 of my friends have the same model and theirs broke as well. One shelled out 150 to get it repaired and the other just bought a new camera. Cameras in Australia are very expensive and I bought this before I came here. The camera costs about 200 US when I got it, and the closest replacement was 400AUD, which is about 340 to 350.
All I have to say is, the camera is great during its life. But I weary of buying another canon for awhile. I rather go for a brand that may not have the best auto features like color swap and accent, but it at least works past 4 to 12 months. Even my minolta with a messed up lcd screen is still taking awesome pictures and I had it at the beach forever and this piece of crap dies in 3 months.Definitely staying away from canon, and it sucks cause i loved it when it was useful. On: 2007-06-16
I just wish Canon hadnt stopped this cameras production On: 2007-06-15
Had this camera for about 8 months. Takes nice photos and is very compact, however I will never be able to use this camera again, since as of this week the LCD screen has fractured for the second time. The first time I sent the camera in (this was about 2 months after purchase) I naively believed that the camera was under warranty (as it was supposed to be) and the screen would be fixed. Canon told me that it was my fault the LCD screen broke - even though the camera was kept secure in a padded camera bag and was never dropped. I tried fighting that but Canon was resolute, so I ended up paying around 130 dollars for the repair. In order to prevent this problem from happening again I attached a 1/8th of an inch plexiglass protective screen over the new LCD. That worked fine until last week when out of the blue, the same problem of a crack in the screen appeared again. Not going to repeat the same mistake twice... Ive given up with Canon. On: 2007-06-10
Looking forward to taking it on its first trip. Love it. Compact, super little with great features. On: 2007-06-09
I love this little camera. Portable, the batteries last forever and takes great photos. I live and work in remote areas of Alaska and its great to have a camera that fits in the pocket for fieldwork. Great for work and play. I recommend this camera to friends and coworkers. I generally charge two batteries when I know Ill be without power for a few days and Ive never been disappointed by the battery running out at an inopportune time. Durable. Have dropped the camera in boats planes and dirt without issues other than minor scratches. Move mode is great too. Not the ultimate camera but just enough and dependable to get the job done. On: 2007-06-06
I have been a big fan of Canon and decided to buy another digital Canon camera. I bought my husband the S400 a couple years ago and I loved it so much, I used it more than he did. Because of this, he asked me to get my own so he could have his back. I was excited to find the SD600 at a very good price ($150 on clearance) and couldnt wait to use it. Not only did I get a good deal, but its a very attractive camera with a bigger LCD.
I like being able to just point and shoot and never had any problems with getting great pictures from the S400, which is what a compact camera like this is for. The SD600 makes you really work for a good picture (I thought switching to manual mode would help), and even then, the quality is very dissapointing.
I was EXTREMELY dissapointed in this camera and have really tried to like it, especially since I got such a great deal. Every picture taken with a flash has red eye, even set on red-eye reduction. Forget taking pictures anywhere but outside in bright light. Pictures taken indoors, or in any type of natural lighting are either very grainy or blurry. Forget trying to use the high ISO in low lighting, the pictures are even more unbelievably grainy. But keeping the ISO lower produces very dark pictures in natural to low lighting.
I took my first pictures with this camera at my daughters communion and was so dissapointed. The pictures were so unbelievably grainy, and if they werent grainy, they were either blurry or there was not enough flash to capture a good picture. And this was in a church where half the church is windows and there was a lot of natural lighting. They were so bad, they actually looked like they were taken with my daughters kid digital camera I bought her for $20.
I decided to try to take some more pictures to give the camera the benefit of the doubt, but have produced more bad pictures than good ones to warrant keeping this camera. I dont know what happened to Canons quality when it comes to pictures, but now Im bummed because I will have to find a new favorite.
I am sure I could get into all the manual controls a little more and maybe get some better quality pictures, but that would defeat the purpose of having a small point and shoot type of camera. If I wanted to mess with manual controls to get a good picture, Id get an SLR.
I dont understand all the great reviews this camera has gotten. Do I just have a lemon or are others not as picky about the quality of their photos? I researched this camera and bought it because of the great reviews, but after going through the reviews here with ratings 3 stars and lower, I do see that I am not the only one experiencing bad quality photos. This camera is going back today. On: 2007-06-05
I got this camera as a gift Christmas 06 and it is a great digital camera. I was able to play with it for about and hour and I was able to take fablous pictures of my friends and family that night. I took it recently to Lake Tahoe CA and I was able to take some fablous pictures of the scenery even from a moving car. My husband thought that as we were driving that they would be blurry but, everything was crystal clear. On: 2007-06-02
nice and small, good lcd, wish I could get more clarity in close-ups, but over all great On: 2007-05-30
My husband and I used some birthday money to purchase this camera last October (2006), and we recommend it highly. Easy to use for simple point-and-shoot tasks, but has lots of flexibility when you read the instructions and put the manual settings to use. We also use the video mode lots and have been happy with the results, as well as with the Macro setting. There are some things this camera cant do, though....you cant change the level of zoom in video mode once you begin filming, and there appears to be no feature which allows you to set the camera to take photos at regular intervals for a set period of time (i.e. every 10 seconds for a 24-hour period). But overall, this is a very good camera not only for everyday things like pictures of friends, but also if you are interested in more artistic photos but dont have loads of dollars to spend on a digital SLR. On: 2007-05-28
THIS CAMERA IS GREAT.IT IS SUPER EASY TO USE. MY PICS ARE CLEAR AND BRIGHT.YOU CAN ALSO PRIME THE BUTTON SO IT WILL BE READY TO SHOOT THE INSTANT YOU WANT TO CAPTURE A PIC. THE BEST PART IS THE MOVIE MODE.IT SHOOTS EXCELLENT VIDEO W/CLEAR IMAGES AND AUDIO. THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS LIMITED STORAGE SPACE.I BOUGHT 1 GIG OF MEMORY FOR UNDER $30 DOLLARS. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS CAMERA!! On: 2007-05-26
I bought this camera so much cheaper from Amazon than I could get locally and with free shipping. We had a SD400 until the lense jammed; the screen on this one is bigger and it makes a big difference. It has different shooting modes that are easily accessed for switching between pictures of my active 2 yr old and the shady spot of my infant. I love it! On: 2007-05-25
Ive used this camera for about 5 months now and continue to be impressed with its features--all of which I have not even begun to use.
I have used this camera to make a DVD yearbook for all of my students. Throughout the year, I have taken pictures as well as videos of various events, field trips, assemblies, etc. using this camera. All are quite clear and are making this DVD yearbook something that will likely be a treasured keepsake for years to come.
I bought a HP several years ago and was never happy with it because it drank batteries dry in a matter of minutes. After not even a half hour of taking pictures it would warn that the battery was getting really low.
The SD600 doesnt have a battery indicator, but it lasts for over a week at heavy useage and a few weeks at standby with limited use.
It has the same features as the more expensive SD630, but has only a 2.5" LCD instead of a 3"--thats it. On: 2007-05-24
Works great! I took 223 photos and a few movie clips on a recent trip, and the rechargeable battery is still going. My 2 GB card still has room, too. Might as well buy the extra $42 battery while youre at it, though. Ive yet to find this camera in a store - truly an online item. On: 2007-05-23
My SD600 is excellent! In addition to the wonderful auto mode, I love the other setting options this camera gives me. I can take pictures at night, or in a moving car, of my family and my dogs, or of my house and macro shots of my favorite flowers. I have had no regrets at all. On: 2007-05-23
So my dad had a cannon sd300 that I thought for the price was an awesome little camera. when it came time to upgrade my cheap hp camera I quickly looked at cannon. My choice came down to sd600 and the sd630 which has no viewfinder hole. I am glad I choose the sd600 with the viewfinder because my battery was getting low at the zoo so I shut the screen off and took pics the old fashion way.
AS for a review, it takes great videos for a digital camera, takes very sharp pictures but in low lighting areas can get grainy but not very often. Battery life was great, lcd screen is very clear, and zoom is very nice.
So to summon it up great camera for any family, if your a camera pro you may want the sd700 series or 800 series. On: 2007-05-23
for the price, this is the best I have owned. I buy Canon and like the products. The 600 is the easiest so far. Very user friendly. A good buy. On: 2007-05-23
I purchased this camera as a bday gift for my mom and am really upset that I did not buy one for myself. It takes wonderful pictures and I love the fact that its so compact. I plan to buy this camera for my husband as a Fathers Day gift from the girls (although I will end up using it the most). On: 2007-05-18
I bought this camera for my sister who deserved it after giving birth to the most perfect nephew I could ever have. Although I havent used it, I have benefited from the fantastic shots shes taken with it. You see, I live 3500 miles away from her - so the only way to get at my nephew was to buy her this camera. And let me tell you: it works great for baby shots; fantastic, actually. He sees the pre-shot light come on and knows whats coming - and hes a ham for that camera. Great action shots, great video, great everything. On: 2007-05-18
This camera was worth every penny. It is the third Canon Digital Elph that I have used over the past 4 years. I still have my SD100 that I purchased in the spring of 2004. The SD600 blows it out of the water. The quality of the pictures is outstanding. The camera was taken on a trip to Italy a week after it was purchased. It returned with hundreds of great photos.
Note that it is worth purchasing a 1GB or higher memory card from the start. You will appreciate it considering that you will want to be able to take extremely high quality photos with the SD600. I recommend this camera 100% as a great point-and-click. On: 2007-05-18
Awesome camera that fits in your pocket. Easy to use and carry anywhere. On: 2007-05-17
Everything is just great, except two things. 1. Hate to take the battery out to be charged. 2. No way of knowing how much battery life you have left on the camera. If there is an indicator, I surely didnt see it in the manual or any of the buttons. On: 2007-05-16
The case is a little too plastic-y for my liking. Canon has better quality at slightly higher price points. This is a very thin and light camera however and takes decent pictures. Overall its a very boring offering from Canon. The price is about right. On: 2007-05-16
Seems my SD600 has been replaced by the SD1000.
As far as the 600 is concerned, this is a great little camera.
In the past four years, I have replaced two other digital cameras; a 2.1MP Samsung and a 4.1MP Kodak. My Samsung lasted 2 years and my Kodak only lasted one. Coincidentally, my Samsung crapped out the same exact day that my Samsung video camera crapped out...EMP?
Anyways, I was a little hesitant paying $200+ for a camera especially since my track record, but read some decent reviews on CNET and took the leap. Wow! I am impressed.
Other than a small feature set (who needs em anyways), this is the perfect camera and I couldnt be happier. Perfect 1MB pictures with resolution of 2600x1200. With a 1GB SD card, this will give me unlimited amounts of space.
I actually picked this out because of the battery pack. I read somewhere that you can take 300 pictures on one charge up (no flash) or 160 pictures with flash. If one thing annoyed me was having to replace batteries all the time on my other cameras. This comes with a little pack about the size of a checkerboard square and a portable charger.
There is also a great video mode on it too. Although not DVD quality video and the .AVI format takes up a bit more space, I would not trade this for anything. I can now create nice little home videos without having to go out and buy another camcorder.
I am shocked at the audio range the mic picks up, although some ambient sounds are picked up and sounds tinny. I believe a 1GB card holds up to 58 minutes. But to be truthful, how many home videos do we have that only have boring fluff for 10s of minutes. This camera is perfect for the "have to get" video. I figure if I need a longer video then I can purchase a 4GB card. Anyways, .AVI format will easily allow me to convert it to any other format...thats always nice.
Just to add, we recently went on a 9-day week vacation. We took over 400 pictures and a dozen or show video clips worth 20minutes or so, and had to swap out batteries on the very last day. We had a secondary battery so that was cool but could have easily charged our original battery every night.
Bottom line...if you can get this model, great. If not, get the SD1000. The SD1000 actually is 7.1MP instead of 6 and I think its running about $240 in the stores. According to my co-worker who I talked into getting one, it comes in two cosmetic flavors; a black face and a chrome face.
One word of advice if you decide to get this model or similar; Canon seems to have some type of image stabilization technology on it. When taking your pictures, be sure to half-click the button before actually snapping the shot. This seems to allow the picture to still itself. My wife took some very poor blurry pictures before I showed her. On: 2007-05-16
Got this for my daughter for Christmas..She wanted a small digital, but something that would take great pictures easily..The Canon PowerShot SD600 6MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom fills the bill perfectly..And heres the best part...Right after Christmas she dropped the camera in the snow and the lens stuck in the open position...Canon fixed the camera, no questions asked, and returned it within two weeks...I highly recommend this produsct

The case is a little too plastic-y for my liking. Canon has better quality at slightly higher price points. This is a very thin and light camera however and takes decent pictures. Overall its a very boring offering from Canon. The price is about right. On: 2007-05-15
What a great camera. Only problem is keeping it out of my daughters hands. On: 2007-05-15
Small, compact...sometimes hard to hold due to its size.
Works great-photos clear and nice. On: 2007-05-14
I am a canon fan (camera, scanner, printer), so when I finally made the upgrade from my older s110 camera, I went straight back to canon (i had that one for 4-5 years and it still works perfect... was just looking for a bigger screen). LOVE the new features and the screen, though im nervous about scratching it up. Start up time and lag time significantly shorter than my old one (no surprise there) and the mechanism is much more quiet. The change from compactflash to sd is also an upgrade for me.
Only complaint is that the label for the flash has already slowly dissolved, I think due to use of the camera with sunscreened hands (totally my fault). Otherwise, its wonderful! On: 2007-05-13
Its a great product and I like it a lot.
Probably one of my better buys in a log time.
I knew that it had limited optical zoom but since I wanted something that was more handy and portable, this was my obvious choice! On: 2007-05-13
I ordered this camera for my son, and one year later for my daughter. Both are teenagers and take the camera with them everywhere. We also ordered the leather case with the magnetic closer to help protect the camera. We have never had a problem with either camera. Kids also use the video feature for short films. I ordered the SanDisk SDSDB1 GB digital card to go with it. Works great and takes loads of pictures. On: 2007-05-13
Not being a professional photographer by any means, this camera is perfect for me. It is easy to use, while still offering many advance settings for better picture clarity. Recently, I brought it with me on vacation and to a graduation. In both situations, the small size and large LCD screen made capturing pictures without a lot of hassle possible. I was between the SD600 and SD630 when I purchased this camera. It can be a little tricky accessing the menu buttons on the back of the camera on the model I have, because they are relatively small due to the screen size. Although the larger LCD screen would have been cool, I assume that the buttons would be even trickier on the SD630. On: 2007-05-13
Got this to replace a camera twice its size, and I love the small compact design. The one downside, it doesnt give you a whole lot of warning when the battery is low, just says low battery, and you can get 3 to 5 more pics off then its dead. On: 2007-05-13
Very pleased with the camera, easy to use and produced good quality photos; annoyingly, it was stolen from my apt., so Ive just ordered another. Glad to report Im now moved to a safer area. Wish camera came with case and good strap, had to buy a case.

We borrowed a Canon PowerShot Elph camera from my brother on a recent trip to the Grand Canyon and LOVED IT! It was so easy to slip into our pocket and carry with us. The view finder made it easy to see how our pictures were going to look. Even our 7 and 12 yr old boys found it easy to work with. The picture quality was wonderful and we were more than pleased with the results. So the day after we got back from our vacation, we ordered the SD600 for ourselves - what a treat! On: 2007-05-12
This camera is an excellent product. Small and light, easy to handle and does great, great pictures. The big display is also awesome. I highly recommend this camera for all who are looking for high quality, but a small, light and easy to manage piece. On: 2007-05-12
this camera is small, convenient, has great features and takes great pictures. it is a great value for the price. On: 2007-05-12
This is our 2nd camera that was bought from amazon. The first one was the Canon A3 series but it didnt last long after 2 years of using it. The only main con of this camera is the snow flakes whenever we take pictures at night time.
Overall its a great value for a camera. On: 2007-05-10
Great camera, sturdy, durable, and popular. At one point on my honeymoon my battery died and I was able to borrow someone elses battery for the perfect sunset shot! I look forward to figuring out the bells and whistles. On: 2007-05-10
An excellent camera, good for close-ups. Takes a while to master the great variety of options, but it is worth the effort. And it is simple to just start using it. I prefer this version, which comes with a viewfinder in addition to the display panel, to the one with display panel only. Call me old-fashioned. On: 2007-05-07
Works just as advertised. The best small camera around. It is the size of
a pack of cigarettes, yet delivers high quality photos.
Best buy of the year. On: 2007-05-07
If you are looking forward to buy a digital camera, look no further but Canon SD600, which is by far the greatest compact camera ever to produced. All the reviews (415) on Amazon say what I say...so go on and ENJOY.
Smooth and soft working. On: 2007-05-07
I own a Canon 20D SLR digital with several interchangeable lenses, so I have an excellent comparison for judging the Canon SD600.
The Canon SD600 comes so close to the performance of the professional Canon 20D SLR, I use the SD600 for most of my picture taking. The 20D is now reserved for extremely difficult photos - like taking pictures of the moon (timed photos), high ASA night scenes, super-critical macro shots, etc. The SD600 takes every other type of photo with excellent results. Its compact size allows you to take it anywhere, and its features are too numerous to list and review. Its video mode is the best on any digital camera I have seen to date. (Btw, the 20D and other professional cameras dont even have a video mode) -- A note of advice: Spend the extra little bit to use a 2 GB or larger card so that you have plenty of room for 100s of photos and video clips as well. Youll be amazed with this camera. I rate it as "Best Buy" by far. On: 2007-05-07
This is goin to be short and sweet. I love this camera. The camera was delivered to me in perfect working order and takes great photos. Would definitely recommend. On: 2007-05-07
This camera was a gift for my wife. She loves it! Carries it around in her purse. It is easy to use. She likes the movie and photo review functions. Transferring data to the computer is a snap. I would like to see more zoom. On: 2007-05-02
I have own many digital cameras and canon is the best when it come to cameras, I have never been disappointed yet!!
I tried to stay in the $200 range and bought a Kodak, Nikon, Sony, Fuji 1st and the pictures either lacked color, definition, most of all were just very disappointing. I returned them all and finally spent a little more and got a Canon A95 for $325 and the pictures were wonderful, never disappointed.
My A95 is now going on 4 years old, Nothing wrong with it I just wanted to upgraded, and this time I stuck with canon and got the SD600 Elph mainly for its size!! Surprisingly the SD600 cost less then my A95 did and has more MPs. and it takes better pictures then my A95 did, glad I upgraded.
But the best thing I like about the SD600 is the Color Accent option!! You zoom in on your childs face skin tone, snap the picture and there face will have all its color but everything behind them is black and white. You dont have to mess with a computer to get the technique. Also snapping picture using Snow and Foliage option gives your pictures wonderful COLOR!! I think some people have dislike for the camera because they never try the other option the camera has.
Also no one else has mention this in their reviews either. With Canon digitals you can plug it right to a printer (skip the computer) and print your pictures right out at home. I have never had to download any software to print picture off my 2 canon cameras. I just plug my canon right to my KODAK!!!!! Printer (Yes different brand printer form my camera and it works) then push the print BUTTON ON THE CAMERA, and the picture comes right out on the printer without using a computer. So Easy to use another reason I like canon over other digtials I have tried.

I really thought this would be a perfect camera for us but it really isnt. The photos are often grainy or blurry. I have taken many photos of my kids with the kids and pet feature and all of them turn out bad. The flash doesnt really adjust well and often things are too bright. And if you turn off the flash they are grainy. So I do like the size and ease of use, the photo quality has been a let down. On: 2007-04-30
Canons PowerShot digital camera is very appropriately named.
My previous camera was a Canon SureShot 90W. The PowerShot was loaned to me, with instruction manual, for a special one-month assignment, and I had to become comfortable and proficient with it overnight! The instruction manual is very well written. Due to its size, I was sceptical about its power to produce top-quality images. When I finished my assignment, I was hooked on digital and began to research digital cameras in the $200 price range, shopping from store to store and on the Internet. Since I already had the experience of using the Canon PowerShot, I had an advantage to make a fair comparison to other digital cameras. After extensive research, I purchased this camera and absolutely love it. The small size and light weight makes it easy to put in a jacket pocket or handbag. The movie feature is a bonus! Previously I used a camera when I went on vacation or for special occasions. I use this digital camera every day for both still and moving images to compare products, to document and/or resolve issues, and for fun! I keep it with me always! I highly recommend this great little camera. On: 2007-04-28
I love the size, it fits in my purse or pocket. I wanted a camera that is easy to use and this is it. You can take stills or movies. I bought a tripod to take night shots since you really have to hold the camera still. Other than that its the best and easiest cameraIve ever had. We travel a lot and see many others with this camera so were not alone in thinking its a great camera. On: 2007-04-26
I bought this camera as an upgrade for a 3 years old 4MP Kodak (which still works great!). We took this camera already 4 times for visit out of the country and we have no complain what so ever. I read the debate between those who prefer cameras that use regular AA batteries (like my old Kodak) and those favor cameras that have special rechargable batteries. I must say that I did not have any battery issues with this camera and one charge is usually good for 400-500 low resolution photos. I bought a spare battery on eBay and keep it charged with the camera, so I never find myself with an empty battery. The charger is universal, so it can be used anywhere around the globe, all you need is the right outlet converter.
The monitor is high quality and relatively large (2.5") and I chose this model over the SD 630 (3.0" monitor) because it also has a viewfinder, whihc is usfull in brgith light.
The photo quality is good, even when using the lowest resolution, and the video quality is great (for this type of camera), and I have not even started learning and using all the advanced features it has.
And the best of all - all these great features come in a very small body, which fits easily in a pocked or purse (although I would recomend using a carrying case for better protection). On: 2007-04-25
Oh my goodness...have I gone to Heaven? I just purchased the SD-600 after multiple days of research. My Olympus C-720 did its job for 5 years and it was past time to upgrade. I have a nine month old whom Im constantly taking pictures of. I was so tired of over half of my pictures being blurry. Well....NO MORE BLURRY PICTURES!!! Ive been taking pictures of her constantly for two days and there hasnt been a bad one yet. I know there is still so much more to this camera that I havent learned yet. The color accent feature is amazing that lets you turn a picture into black/white except for one color...its sooooo cool. Canon really outdid themselves.....I couldnt be more pleased. For anyone out there looking for a small, very eye-catching camrea that takes amazing pictures...buy the canon sd-600. You wont be sorry! On: 2007-04-24
I have been researching cameras for quite sometime now. I recently went to a family function where someone had the SD 630. I was really impressed with the camera. Within minutes of having the camera I was able to know what I was doing and how to use the camera. While researching the cameras though, I decided to go with the SD 600 because it had the viewfinder. I think I definitely made the right decision, but for people like me who were having a hard decision, I dont think you will give anything up by not having the viewfinder, personally I just wanted it. I think the two models are very similar and that anybody would be happy with either of them. I have had the camera for a little over two weeks and I am so pleased with it. I went from a Kodak to a Canon and I will never go back to Kodak or any other camera. It is a great buy and I would recommend this camera to anyone. On: 2007-04-22
I recieved this camera as a gift and I am completely knocked out by the features. When the flash is off I can take a number of shots in a row, the result I feel like a documentary photographer. The ability to take snapshots in a dimly lit bar or restaurant without using the flash is awesome! I can take all the shots I want of my friends without disturbing everyone around us. The video feature gives me enough of what I need capture a moment. Now can we talk color quality? I wish my apartment looked as good in person as it does through the lens of the camera. This camera is a purchase worth the price. On: 2007-04-20
JUST GOT THE CAMERA AND IT IS SO EASY TO USE AND THE QUALITY IS SO GOOD. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH GOOD QUALITY IN A DIGITAL CAMERA BEFORE AND TAKES PICTURES FAST. THE 2GB MEMORY STICK HOLDS OVER 6,666 PICTURES. I THINK WE ARE GOING TO STICK WITH THIS CAMERA FOR A WHILE. WHAT A GREAT PRICE TOO. On: 2007-04-18
I originally bought this camera as an alternative to my Canon S2 for when I needed something small to slip into my purse. I LOVE THIS CAMERA and find the S2 is left at home most of the time now. I recently returned from a trip to Germany and Italy. Heard from several sources about pick-pocketers in Rome so(again)left the S2 behind. Made me a little nervous to do that as I wanted to be sure to have great pictures from the trip. Not to worry....all of the pictures turned out great -- color accurate, clarity sharp, menus easy to figure out. Ok, maybe 5% of the indoor cathedral pictures were dark, and occasionally red eye showed up. Nonetheless, this is a great camera for those who want a camera that they can conceal easily yet take out quickly and get some great snapshots of people and scenery. Get a 2GB card and an extra battery and youre all set! On: 2007-04-15
...then this is the camera for you! Its small, light, and extremely easy to use- perfect to take to the park, family function, or sporting event without being bulked up or weighted down like other cameras make you feel. I like that it has a 2 1/2" lcd screen that displays beautifully, as well as an optical viewfinder that is a "must have" in certain situations. The 3x zoom works well too, and the picture quality is outstanding, way better than the HP, Toshiba, and Kodak I have owned in the past. In addition, the video component is a major plus; one can get a pretty good quality half hour of vid with a 2gb sd card (not included, but I recommend you purchase one along with a spare battery). So in many situations, one does not need to tote the video cam along either. My only knock: no battery meter, but battery life thus far has been very good. In either case, buy the spare, it charges quickly and is inexpensive.
Built with a solid outer case, easy-to-use functions, and just enough features to add a little flare to pictures, this camera is definitely the one for you. I was able to figure it out without having to look at the manual. Just put it into your pocket and you (and the kids) are on your way! On: 2007-04-14
I bought this camera for my parents as a gift. They love it! Much easier to use than they expected. This is their first digital camera, and they are having a blast with it. They can stick it in their pocket or purse, and are pleased with the look of the pictures when printed. On: 2007-04-10
I just came back from a vacation with over 200 pictures and a dozen video clips taken using the SD600. Every picture/video came out well exposed with excellent clearity. Its small size allowed me to take it to places where I found inconvenient to bring my digital Rebel. Its all-metal body not only looked good, but also felt very solid in my hand. If you are looking for a compact camera that takes great pictures, this is it. On: 2007-04-10
I have had standard film SLR cameras and 2 Sony digital cameras, and I completely satisfied, if not overly satisfied with this camera. It is sturdy, easy to use and best of all, my wife doesnt complain on "how do I use this camera?"... takes great pictures, easy to change between modes (auto vs. many manual modes) and compact. I do recommend purchasing a large SD card (preferably the 1 GB size) On: 2007-04-08
I had a Canon A40, A 95 and now the SD600.The A40 was good but did not have enough pixels
the A95 fell off a table and broke.
the SD600 bounced down 8 stone steps and nothing happened, it did not even have a dent the pictures are better than on the A 95 and all the great things everybody says are true.
I am writting this because falling down stone steps without getting damaged is unbelievable ! On: 2007-04-08
Absolutely perfect camera for someone who doesnt know much about cameras but just wants to take great pictures. Solid, compact little camera that doesnt require rocket science to operate, yet really comes through with results. On: 2007-04-04
Honestly, I bought this camera in good part just because I wanted something tiny that would fit into my purse when I went out at night. If youre big in photography Im sure youd be frustrated with it, but for the rest of us, it has enough preset settings to take good pictures, just enough control in the manual setting, and is really easy to figure out how to change settings. The zoom isnt super, but its a great camera for snapping pictures of friends and family and for landscape shots, and I have gotten a few good close up shots too. On: 2007-04-04
I liked it so much I bought one for my son too. Compact and great pix. On: 2007-04-04
Better than expected for the price. Needs a Gigabyte camera card to be really effective. Otherrwise you cant miss with this camera. On: 2007-04-01
I have highly recommended this camera to many other people, most of which have bought and also loved, or are planning to buy it. I bought it in Nov 06, and have been using it for 4 months now. I love the quality, it is great. It takes the pictures fast, which is very important to me when taking pictures of my 2 yr old son. It also has a continuous feature, so you can continuously take pictures of things, and then go through and pick the ones that turned out the best and delete the rest. When taking pictures of a child, who is constantly moving, that helps me to not miss out on the pictures I really want. The video part is also great, great quality, and not many cameras take video with sound. I have burned my videos onto DVD and it looks great on the TV when I watch them. It has replaced my video camera... my 2 GB memory card holds almost an hour of high quality video, and is much more convenient, I dont go anywhere without this camera. Some days I take over 300 pictures, because I just love how great they turn out. With my old camera, I would take maybe 10 pictures if doing something big, but now most of my sons life is being captured. With the video, I can easily transfer them to my computer, and then burn onto as many DVDs as I want, to give to people. I am completely in love with my camera... people make fun of me for taking so many pictures, but the same people are impressed by the pictures I take. I would recommend this camera to EVERYONE!!! I guess I bought it at the right time... I got it from amazon for $200, and it was about $250 in stores at that time. Now with how popular it has become, it is $250 on Amazon, and I have seen store ads for $300. Even for that price, it is worth it!!! On: 2007-03-31
I like it for its size and weight. I travel a lot, and never forget to carry my canon with me. I did a lot of research when I bought this; I couldnt find a camera in this segment with a better review and rating. Price is right as well. Photo quality is good too.

I received this camera the day before the state gymnastics meet. I was able to capture amazing action shots without any blurring. Before the SD600, I owned the Cannon PowerShot A510. Switching from one Cannon camera to another could not be easier. I love the great pictures from this camera and how the camera looks. It is incredibly small, it has a huge screen, and it is very sleek. Its aesthetics are perfect as well as the pictures. On: 2007-03-31

I needed a small, relatively inexpensive camera to take photos of a long trip from the U.S. to India and looked at many different models. I settled on the SD600 because of its friendly price and good features and it did not disappoint me. Most of the operations are intuitive and easy to handle, the 6-MP resolution is excellent (up to print-reproduction quality) and the rechargeable battery was an excellent feature. Downloading photos into my computer was quick and easy.
I would recommend the SD600 to anyone with similar needs, with the clear understanding that any purchase represents a compromise between price and performance. This camera was exactly what I needed and it did the job. I expect to use it in many situations because of its small size and convenience.
My only gripe was the absurdly small (16-meg) memory card that came with it, enough for five high-res photos. I bought a 512 with 200-shot capacity, easy to find even in India, and realized that the razor/blade marketing calculation had been very carefully calibrated by Canon. A bit like print cartridges, perhaps . . . On: 2007-03-28
I previously owned the Canon PowerShot SD400 and loved it but I gave it to my husband and decided to get an upgrade for myself. I have tried many of my friends cameras, which are usually pretty good, but I love the Canon PowerShot the most.
I dont like the Canon PowerShot SD700 body but all the power shots are great. I have a friend who has it and I tried it out. I guess I got used to the feel and the body of the SD400 and since Canon kept it the same up to the SD600 I went with this one instead of the higher model which by the way its the same except for the size of the screen.
Great camera. Love my pictures. Compact and comfortable to hold. Very easy to use. This camera will please most people that want a simple point and shoot camera with great picture quality.

This is my first digital camera and I just love it. Its so small and compact yet takes very clear pictures. I love the large viewing window and its easy to use. Ive only used it on automatic mode so far, but the pics come out great. I just bought a 2GB SD memory card as the one that comes with the camera only holds about 10 pictures. I plan on taking it up to the mountains and taking some very scenic shots and emailing them to my friends. I would recommend this camera and am very happy with it. The price is reasonable too. This camera is a great point-and-shoot choice. Its very compact (easily fits in a pocket) and takes great stills AND video! Resolution on both is impressive. Compared to earlier models, size and battery life are vast improvements. I recently took the camera on a European vacation and was able to take 100 shots in a day without running out of juice. It doesnt do a great job at night or in dim light, but its as good as any point-and-shoot in that regard. Shots during the day are clear and bright and 3x optical zoom is strong for this size of camera. I definitely recommend this for any casual photographer or someone more advanced who wants a lightweight, bring-out-with-you-whenever camera. On: 2007-03-26
Bought this to replace our Nikon coolpix 4200 that had developed a definite red hue in pictures over the past year. We still use our Nikon N65 (35mm) camera - nothing beats the pictures we get from it. However, to travel and as a replacement to the Nikon, this has been a good choice without spending a lot. On: 2007-03-26
I am nowhere near a professional photographer--I just wanted a small, functional, decent camera to carry in my purse when I go out. The SD600 fits the bill beautifully. Its easy to use without even reading the instructions, the pictures are crisp and the battery power is long. Admittedly, this camera can do way more than I use it for, i.e. all kinds of different shooting modes, video, etc, so if you are looking for something high-tech, this would probably work well for you too. My only complaint is that I had to buy an additional memory card for $25 because the card it came with only holds 8 pictures. But now I am satisfied and I plan on using this camera to capture great memories for years to come! On: 2007-03-26
Ive never owned a digital camera, although I have wanted one for a while. I received this camera as a gift and am very pleased with it. I only had to read the abbreviated instruction manual (comes with abbreviated and detailed manuals) and I was taking pictures a couple of minutes later. The camera is light and small, so its easy to take with me. The view screen is large, despite the cameras size, which is nice. The pictures are great, and the auto focus feature makes taking them simple. It came with a USB cable to download pictures to my computer, and the software for that was easy to understand. You can take pictures and have them on your computer in literally one minute. by: Anonymous On: 2007-03-25
This camera...i got it for christmas, it is awesome.
Pros:
-small, easliy fits into my pocket
-cool options-like snow, kids&pets, fireworks, & many others
-takes GREAT vidoes, i was taping my sis n she waz talkin, when i replayed it, you could hear the radio playin in the background!
-doesnt take blurry pics, i had my bro jump ^ and down while i took a pic, NOT BLURRY @ ALL!!! (well unless u move ur hand holdin the camera)
-hard, ive dropped this thing sooo many times i cant count, not dents or scratches what so ever
-although it says 3x zoom, it can go farther than that, up to 12 i think, the photos still come out good, but not great, but still good.
-BIG SCREEN!! whopee!
-i think the LCD screen is best for taking the pics, cuz if you take it with the viewfinder u get smudges on the screen.
Cons:
-the screen scratches easily, while i was cleaning it off, a piece of plastic was between the screen & the paper towel, which scratched it.
-i would get a SKIN for this, ive jus go a case, doenst work as well as a skin would.
- screen smudges easliy
other than that i really LOVE this camera, my parents wanted me to get a nikon, but i chose the canon, with better results than my moms nikon 10x zoom, my 3x does better than hers!!! it also does better than my dads freekishly thin nikon! id also recommend playing around with the settings so u dont waste your memory all up. i aslo wouldnt waste time reading the booklets, its way easier to figure it out urself. if u want 2 change the setting on the pic, (while ur in pic mode) press the FUNC. SET (middle button)there u will have quite a few settings 2 chose from, and the same thing on the video setting.
Over all this is one BIG gift in a small package! On: 2007-03-25
Ive owned several Sony compact cameras and decided to give Canon a try. I have no regrets. This camera is easy to use and the photo quality is awesome! I love the compact size and design as well. On: 2007-03-23
I am very picky about my photos. I have been doing professional photography for 25 years. This camera provides the closest digital image to any 35mm camera on the market. The colors are true and the images are crisp. Its lightweight and easy to use. Definitely recommend! On: 2007-03-22
Bought this camera for a ski trip and it was awesome. Light and compact to carry in my ski jacket. Took great video too. On: 2007-03-21
Takes great photos if you can figure out how to use the camera. The directions are incomprehensible at least for me who is not a techie person. On: 2007-03-20
I love the camera. I have purchased other elph models for my kids and I finally had to get one!
So easy to use, a great value for the money. Great experience from Amazon. On: 2007-03-20

Ive owned the SD600 for a few months now, and agree with most of the reviews, thus far - its a great little camera. Of course, I am partial to Canons, because I consider them the best!
This afternoon, I thought it was time to write a review of my own, however. After finding a wasps nest, I felt brave enough to photograph it in macro mode "up close and personal". On my third or fourth shot, the wasps had had enough of this intruder and zoomed in on me, sending me and camera backwards over steps and onto the concrete patio floor... still holding my PowerShot with the wrist strap. My poor camera bounced across the concrete steps and floor several times before I made it to safety.
The battery/memory card cover had snapped off in the process and the camera had powered off. Oh no, I thought, Ill have to invest in another one. But wait - the battery cover, although plastic, was unbroken and only needed to be snapped back on. With that on, the camera was able to power up again! Joy, joy, everything was working!
The end results were a few almost unnoticeable scratches to the front of the camera and four wasp stings to my arm and leg which are swelling as I type, but my SD600 is one tough little gem! Dont know if the SD1000 could be any better. On: 2007-03-17
The quick shutter speed that is used as a "steady shot" works well to eliminate blurred photos. Lots of great features I never expected in a camera in this low price range. On: 2007-03-15
I would have given it 5 stars, but the truth is that there is a difference in quality from images taken with this and ones I take with the xti. Otherwise this little camera is a dream come true. It is so small you can take it anywhere. You can take pictures and short movies. When I was using this as my sole camera I stopped taking videos. If you are looking for a good quality camera that you can take just about anyplace, and get good quality images from it, this is the one to take. It even is the reason for my falling back in love with photography again. Super camera. On: 2007-03-15
The Canon PowerShot SD6800 purchased met all of my expectations. Ive been taking photos for over 65 years, beginning with simple box cameras and the Canon was excellent as an all purpose camera. The featurs which included video capability proved to be a life saver when I needed to record visuals and sound in a spontaneous situation. Overall, I gav it a 5. On: 2007-03-15
This is an excellent product. Its compact, lightweight, and takes very good photos for its size. It has all the features you could reasonably expect to need. Photos enlarge cleanly to at least 5x7 (I havent tried anything larger). All in all, an fine value. On: 2007-03-15
This camera replaces my aging Canon SD 110 (which still works). I chose the 600 because it does have an optical viewfinder as well as a very generous 2" LCD panel (2 1/2 diagonal). The 6 megapixel res is a perfect compromise between file size and picture quality. Colors are vibrant and true and are fully what you expect from Canon. Camera is about 3/4 thick, very "pocketable" and has a nice heft to it, The case is very smooth satin finished metal and seems, so far, to be stain resistant unlike my SD110. Not intended to replace a video camera, I was surprised how good the video actually is. A nice feature the 110 lacked is you can zoom the video while shooting. The 3x optical zoom is typical of the genre and a longer reach would be a welcome improvement. Controls fall very nicely under your right thumb and were very easy to master. My only negative and thats the reason I didnt give it 5 stars is the output access door. It rotates away from the camera body on a flimsy plastic hinge and it feels like its going to come off. A separate card reader is recommended. Despite the one shortcoming, I highly recommend this camera On: 2007-03-14
Looked for quite a while to find a camera that met my criteria, such as adequate zoom (optical and digital), optical viewfinder, SD media, small size, and video function.
The SD 600 exceeded my expectations. I had previously bought and returned 5 different digital cameras. Very pleased ! On: 2007-03-14
1. I have Canon A75 then now DS600. There is a big difference
2. SD600 always in my pocket and not miss any moment I want to shoot
3. The performance is excellent. Especially in the night strong flash.
4. Battery life is good
weak point
1. We need Canon to make indicator for battery.
I recommend this product for who needs to keep value camera in his pocket
and actually I would like to get SD800 On: 2007-03-14
I previously had an Olympus digital camera, then a Sony after that. I liked the functionality of the Olympus; the menus were easy to navigate through and very user-friendly. However, the camera broke after only a year. As for the Sony, the zoom and picture qualities were good, but the menu was just too complicated for me. I always had to refer to the manual to understand what each symbol meant. And even after reading the manual, I was still confused.
The Canon PowerShot SD600 gave me the best of both worlds. It not only provides 3X Optical Zoom and easy-to-understand menus, but it also offers excellect video capabilities, large LCD display, and a panorama mode. I love this camera!! The manual was easy to understand as well...I actually enjoyed reading it and read the whole thing.
I would definitely recommend this camera. Its simple with not a lot of frills, but it comes with everything an average person needs. On: 2007-03-13
I am using it for about a month a now and I like it. It takes excellent pictures in day light and has a good battery life. Unfortunately in my experience the pictures do not come out so good in low light and at night. I have tried the night mode but still do not get the same results.
The color swap function also works only if the colors being used for swaping (both original and new) are bright colors otherwise turns the photo something unimaginable!!!
I would recommend this camera to a friend but along with these issues. Also other people may have a different experience. On: 2007-03-13
The camera has a great feel to it. Its metal body doesnt feel cheap like other models and other cameras. The pictures that come out are great! And for guys like me that just want to point and shoot and move on - it is perfect. It gives me enough controls to be dangerous but not enough that I have to pull out the manual to figure out again.
All around, a great camera! On: 2007-03-13
Barely had the camera a month and now its trash. Took it to glamis twice and it died on the second trip. The reason I bought a canon was my s45 has lasted forever--boating, duning, travel (costa rica, kauai, etc). After researching the lense jam error it seems to be a pretty common problem. Just wanted to give folks a heads up. Airborne sand/dust killed it--and I guess the expectation that the camera could hold up in an outdoor environment was just asking too much. On: 2007-03-13
No Doubt, the best camera for your money. I bought the SD630 really love it. Especially the big screen. However, for my wife who wanted some space for the buttons on the back (nor wanted to pay a couple dollars more for just a bigger screen) the little brother (SD600) is perfect. small, compact and beautiful quality photography... the best deal in town. On: 2007-03-12
The SD600 is a nice small camera if pocket size is your main concern.
The resolution is good, color reproduction is OK, but leans to the yellow side. The thing that really made me return the cameera was the FLASH!
Allmsot every people photo had red eye, even on the adults. If your taking snap shots of scenery or people photos without flash this camera will do a fine job. On: 2007-03-12
Es la mejor camara que pueden escojer a un increible precio, la bateria dura un monton y tienes que aprender a calcular su duracion, vino en menos de 8 dias, (osea rapìdisimo), me encanto y su exelencia con las fotos es maravillosa.

This is exactly what my wife wanted. Small, easy to use, yet very functional. Takes terrific pictures. Only way I could be more pleased is if it were free. On: 2007-03-12
Excellent sleak, lots of features.....fantastic price. LCD screen is slightly smalller than the newer model (630), but youll never miss it. Easy to use and has lots of settings. I recommend highly. On: 2007-03-11

Recently my Sony Cybershot was stolen, I did not want to spend another 400 bucks, I never thought I would go with a canon..... Im happy I did. The canon powershot 600 has been nothing but suprises since I got it, the picture quality is flawless even in night shots. The size is perfect and the features are no where near what my old Sony offered. I can not think of any negative things to say, my only comments would be that the menus to get to other features could be a little easier, I picked it up quickly after reading the full users manual. The battery door and AV doors on the camera are weak plastic and compared to the rest of the camera construction I was kind of turned off and worried that I will break it soon. Just be gentle and you will realy love this camera. Good Work CANON!!!!!!! On: 2007-03-11
I love this one. The clarity of the images is incredible. The battery lasts forever. It was a wonderful Valentines gift. Great buy On: 2007-03-11
Initialy, this camera wasnt in my price range, but I am so glad that I did my homework and spent a little more for this bad boy. When I first opend the box I was amazed (and a little intimidated, Ill admit) at the teeny tiny size! Ive gotten used to it though, and now it seems just right to me...although whenever someone new sees it they always comment on how tiny it is. The camera has a lightwight yet good solid feel to it, just right to me. I bought a replacement battery for this (generic, about 12 bucks here on amazon, great deal and as good as the original that came w/ camera) but I was amazed as upon recieving this camera I was able to play with and figure out setting and controls for about 4 hours before the low battery symbol popped up (that was WITH the LCD on at all times!) The spare battery still comes in handy though when I dont want to wait an hour and a half to charge original or when away. Another thing, OMG is the picture quality amazing, I mean you can zoom in and see pores! (okay maybe thats not such a great thing sometimes...) I find though that pictures turn out much better for me when I just put it on auto, rather than manual and adjust it myself. I also bought the red leather case made for this model, which makes it a little more pricy if, like me, you are on a budget but it is a good investment and has protected my camera wonderfuly and compactly. (It snazzes it up a bit too.) Another thing which earns my praises is that it takes amazing action shots, most of them captured in auto. If you like accentric off-beat humorus pics like me...I have captured objects and people in mid-air...funny expressions on peoples faces...the speed of the camera in awesome when you need to whip it out and take a quick pick and capture. (start up time and playback are about as fast as I could amagine a camera being.) Movie mode is great. The color accent and color swap features are so much fun. Downloading on your computer is quick and easy, also fun how you could hook it right up to your tv with one of the cables that came with it and watch your movies and pics...evrything is so easy I browsed the menu when I had a question but most of it is just cake. G R E A T camera, I doubt anyone would be dissapointed with this beauty.

Im really enjoying this small-but-mighty camera. I took it on a trip to Honduras, and took both video and stills... they came out beautifully. It interfaced with IPhoto with ease, and the pictures and video looked great in IMovie and IDVD. I highly recommend it. On: 2007-03-10
If youre looking for a semi-cheap, small camera with decent quality... YES. GET THIS.
Its user friendly, no matter who you are. The automatic setting as well as all of the other preset adjustments (sports, etc.) is perfect for those not experienced in photography. However, the manual setting allows for ISO adjustment, contrast, and numerous other options.
Id recommend a case, too. On: 2007-03-10
This is such as awesome camera to own!! Its the perfect camera for the point and shoot crowd and has a lot of great features to boot. You cant go wrong owning this camera if you are looking for great pictures with a decently priced digital camera. On: 2007-03-09
I love this camera. This is my second digital camera in a few years. The screen is big, the pictures are crisp and fast- which is nice when youre trying to catch kids who are always on the move. Its small and light and the rechargable battery lasts a really long time.
I definetely recommend this camera.
My old camera was so slow that I most of my picutres were of the back of kids heads as they moved. It was terribly frustrating. I was secretly happy when my kids spilled juice on it so that I could get rid of it and get this new one. On: 2007-03-09
my sister in law had this camera and recommended it to me. i absolutely love it and use it daily. On: 2007-03-09
Im not an expert reviewer, but this camera is great. The picture quality is pretty nice, and what I like about it is that you can choose your levels of ISO. Im not much of a camera person, but all I know is that it makes me look like me, and that theres no need to photoshop anymore! On: 2007-03-09
I bought this camera just before going on vacation. It does a great job of managing light and color - you get the picture that youre seeing, not lots of black or lots of white. Since I was learning it as I was going - without much manual reading, most of the features are intuitive and easy to find. On: 2007-03-08
I was a little scared at first buying a camera through the internet with a company I am not familiar with. But from reading the reviews and the rate of it I got convinced and bought the Canon Powershot SD 600. I am very happy with the service that I got from this company. I got the camera in less than a week and I live in Michigan right now. The camera came in good condition and right now I am enjoying having this new camera. I had to buy a new digital one because I am ready to go on a spring break vacation and for sure I am satisfied on how this camera takes the pictures. It is a choice I made that I am happy with and hopefully if you are looking for a nice digital camera try the Canon powershot cameras. On: 2007-03-08
I first bought this camera a few months ago; when it was stolen, I immediately picked up the same one again. It doesnt have some modern features like the image stabilizer, but for under $250, this is an excellent piece of hardware.
Like most digitals, its low-light performance is terrible, but for medium-lit and outdoors, I have no complaints. Large, crisp pictures, quick startup, no shutter lag, good rapidfire. Its small enough to fit in any pocket, and the lithium battery will give you 100+ snaps.
Downsides? Firstly, you have to take the battery out to charge it, and secondly, the three-position mode switch can mean youll occasionally go into video mode when you meant to go back to the camera. On: 2007-03-08
I bought this camera when I lost my SD400. This camera is even better.
When you install a high speed SD 1G or bigger chip, you get great pics and fast return for you next picture or on 10+mode you can rapid shoot.
The camera is not for shooting long distances, but is great for everything else. The camera is small enough to put in your pocket which makes it really convenient to take everywhere. They include a lithium ion rechargable battery and a compact wall charger. I picked up an extra battery so I have one when rgw other is in the charger. The lithium ion will save you buckets of money over a standard battery camera, with out a doubt. It also comes with a large color screen and a view finder for when it is extra bright outside. The SD600 has video operations that are above avg. for a compact camera but not a replacement for a video camera.
Plain and simple. Great Camera, Great Pics, Compact Size, Easy to navigate, Easy to transfer pics, long rechargable battery life. On: 2007-03-08
I am so Happy with this Camera! My favorite thing is the battery. The last Camera I owned I had to put AA batteries in it. I used rechargeables, alkaline, everything, and could only get a few pictures. BUt this Cameras battery lasted 6 Days in Orlando, Florida, and the pictures were too numerous to count! Plus movies!!! I took the charger with me, NEVER needed it!!! Im still learning about all the things this little camera can do, and Im sure Im not using all of the features, but I will eventually. On: 2007-03-07

With shipping etc its just not worth it. next camera wont be a Canon. On: 2007-03-06

Ive been using the Canon PowerShot SD600 for a few months now. It is a really good camera. The photos are great and the feature for short movies has been very useful. The photos are very easy to download with Canons software. The camera is small enough that it easily fits into pockets. I have recommended the camera to a number of friends. On: 2007-03-04
I bought this camera in the first week of Jan, 2007 from Amazon for $215. Till then I was using 4 Mega Pixel Sony Camera , purchased in July, 2002.
This camera as the name (elf) implies is very compact and hence fits easily in my pocket. The usage of the camera and selection of various modes and other adjustments are very straight forward.
But picture quality is poor.
I took several pictures with this camera for last 3 months using various modes. But overall the pictures taken with the Sony camera appears much better ( no exaggeration!!) than this new generation camera.
Now I am planning to buy another camera as a gift, but I wouldnt buy this model or related models On: 2007-03-03
I bought this for a non-techie. She found it easy to use. Great pics and great videos. Id highly recommend this camera. On: 2007-02-28
I love the new screen. I love the new memory format. I looooooove the exceptional battery life. I love how fast it is.
This is my third elph, and my only complaint is that the sunlight manual setting washes out the colors. I have to switch to automatic in bright sun to get the punchy colors I used to get on sunlight manual. Then switch back to manual for shadowy areas.
Nonetheless, that small quibble aside, if I had the money, Id buy one of these cameras for everyone I know. Im looking for a reason to buy one for hubby, as Id like to retire his slightly older Elph. On: 2007-02-24
Great Price, Great Features from a Great Company.... No I dont work for Canon but for my money they build the best cameras in the world. I have owned 6 Canons in my life and have never been let down. If your looking for a Point and Shoot camera you can put in your shirt pocket and take some great pictures with I would recommend the SD600. Big LCD and Manual View Finder. The Manual View Finder is ideal for saving on battery power. I bring this camera everywhere I go because ya never know when that shot is gonna come along. OH and the PC software they provide is also very good... Not great just good. On: 2007-02-24
This little camera is so lightweight and takes very good pictures. For its size, the LCD screen is big and clear. The video quality with the zoom function is good. Id definitely recommend this camera for anyone who is looking for something compact, easy to use and dont want to spend alot of money. On: 2007-02-24
Canon makes the best cameras out there. They are the way to go. Battery life is awesome. No need to get a second battery. Ive taken 400+ pictures with only one charge. I was using the LCD at times. The battery is way better than any other camera Ive seen.
The camera comes with two manuals. A basic and advanced. You can quickly get going with the basic. Also the camera seems to have way fewer settings than the previous A80 model. This is not the case, using the menu system you can still get to many advanced features, the controls are just minimized to what you are usually doing. Things such as night, flowing streams, shutter speed etc are all accessible through the menus.
The stainless steel construction is very nice. Ive owned plastic only cameras that just did not hold up as well.

Just purchased this for travel purposes. I didnt want to put a lot of money into a very small camera with the inherent risk of loss, theft, damage etc. that comes with the hustle bustle of travel. I also wanted a camera that would take great pictures for less money than the more full featured competition. The pictures from this camera are impressive and it has enough features to make photography interesting without making it too complex for my fellow travelers to operate effectively. I looked at Sony, Casio, and a few others and Im glad I made this choice. All of the pros and cons mentioned in other reviews seem to hold true... view finder only gives you 80% of what the lens sees ( at least it has a viewfinder)and the battery is proprietary but the pictures are worth a thousand words. On: 2007-02-22
There are quite many good reviews on this tiny camera. First of all, its a nice toy! I like it. Dont want to repeat those comments on picutures, battery life, etc.
What I like:
1) Very convenient mode switching (photo, movie, and playback) button
2) Large LCD screen
3) Excellent shutter sound simulation
4) High shutter speed
On: 2007-02-22
I love this camera. The pictures are clear, crisp and focused. I honestly have not taken a bad picture yet. I only have the camera a few weeks, but I am very happy. It has great features as well. I am still learning some of them, but the main ones I know. Even the orange light that comes on when taking the picture does not bother my child and he does not close his eyes anymore. We have great pictures. I would recommend this camera. On: 2007-02-21
SMALL , SWEET, PERFECT PICTURES , CHEAPER THAN ANY WHERE ELSE ,
I LOVE IT On: 2007-02-21
Ive been wanting a digital camera for a few years now but every time I start looking into it, I get overwhelmed by the technical specs. I was complaining about this to my best friend who then pulled her digital camera out of her purse. She said shes been carrying it around for 3 years now. Its sturdy, has easy to use functions and takes great pictures. I bought one that night and have been happily snapping pictures for the past month. On: 2007-02-20
I have used this camera at work (we have 10!) and at home. I had to buy one after using it at work. This camera takes great pictures and covers my mistakes! Great bargain! On: 2007-02-19
Canon is the way to go, like it or not they make the best cameras out there. Some reviewers on this site and others say you cannot take long exposure (night, flowing streams, etc) pictures with this camera. Please read the advanced manual not just the basic. Yes this camera comes with 2 manuals. In manual mode you can indeed control the shutter speed, all the way up to 15 seconds!
As for the battery life, its outrageous! Ive taken up to 450 pictures on one charge and thats using the LCD at times. I dont know how they did it, but the battery life is miles above the rest.
The final thing I love about this camera is the stainless steel construction. My last camera was plastic and just didnt hold up. You can tell this camera could survive a drop, not that Ill be testing that theory, I baby this camera. I can tell it will be with me for the next 5 years at least. On: 2007-02-19
My first impression of the camera was that it looks like a very well made camera. Nothing cheap went into manufacturing. I am still learning all the functions of the camera, the pictures are really good, and it is small. I did purchase a tripod when using the macro function because it will pick up any movement of the camera in macro without a tripod. If you are looking for a small camera that takes great pictures, you will love this camera. On: 2007-02-18
So far I am very pleased with this camera. Its slim very lightweight and reasonable easy to use. That is it will take a bit to get used to, but its not difficult and cannon has excellent support. Its a well designed camera that can easily fit into your pocket. Lots of positives, but the nons would be the following: Takes a bit of time to take the actual picture, but this is very common with digital cameras. Also not the greatest in darkish conditions so if you are a perfectionist these are things to keep in mind. So far I really like this camera very much and am very glad to be an owner.
Happy picture taking and remember to make memories and dont forget to say "Im sorry" when appropriate. These are some of the most healing and powerful words we can all say genuinely more often. On: 2007-02-17
Great camera!! I have used this a lot and i am really satisfied. Handy, easy to shoot. However, there are 2 probleems which can be dealt with:
1. Memory card needs to be bought as the the one coming with camera is 16MB.
2. There are no manual adjustment options. But, then cost is also less than the A series so this can as well be overlooked.
Overall must buy for a beginner. On: 2007-02-16
I had gotten this for myself at thanksgiving (black friday) at best buy and i got a warranty for a good price too
It was the best thing ever, the battery life is amazing (it comes with its own battery and charger) so you never have to buy batteries
It has great picture settings and is about the size of a deck of cards, i got a case to protect it and its been great to me ever since
It also comes with the adapter to upload them on to your computer or any computer. If you download the extras from the disk to your computer you can make those giant horizontal pictures with the edit program but you dont need to download everything if you dont want to
Its nify and a super good deal I use it everywhere and for everything.
I also love the fact that it takes great videos and great pictures too
I suggest you get a bigger memory card then the standard one that comes with it so you can take alot more pictures and longer videos
I gave it 5 stars because I love it every day and use it basically everyday. The screen is the right size and the picture quality is great.
Overall it is a great package and i do suggest a case and a bigger card but its a great deal! On: 2007-02-15
Good features:
(1) Awesome design; tiny, seemed sturdy, easy to fit in any pocket
(2) Large LCD screen
(3) Long-run battery
(4) Wonderful video function (I even dont need to buy a camcorder!)
(5) Acceptable/good quality of picture, especially outdoor.
Bad features:
(1) No TRUE manual setting; you can not adjust the aperture or the speed. It is simply a point-and-shoot camera. DONT expect more options from this camera
(2) Photos taken indoor without flash exhibit skewed color
I would recommend this camera to those who just want a take-around pocket camera and dont want to know more about and deal with photographic terminology. On: 2007-02-14
i wanted to upgrade my 3.1mp camera, since the quality wasnt what I wanted. I decided to go for this camera since many of my friends were giving it rave reviews. the first day I used it, it ended up providing me the most professional-looking photos without any skill. I pointed, shot, and got photos that I love and actually want to frame in large shots. The quality comes out great!! I have also been looking for a good nightshot camera, and it is decent for me. Im giong to try more night shots soon. The only con is that I wish it had a bettery status bar. It only starts flashing low batt when basically its done. I hear the a610 is only a little more expensive but with a few more features?? I recommend this to everyone. On: 2007-02-13
Very good camera. My Uncle loves it. I gave this to him as a gift. He has no trouble with this product.

I bought this camera for my daughter after reading all the reviews I could. However I finally choose a canon firstly, because they have been making cameras for ages and secondly because I have a Canon AE1 auto for the last 24 years and it works perfectly. never had a problem. From flim to digital had to be canon. I must admit that I have been using it more than the intended user so I will have to get my own. On: 2007-02-11
We were looking for a basic point-and-shoot type digital camera and this camera fit the bill. It has been very easy to use and the pictures come out really nice. It even has settings for adjusting to different light settings, but were still learning about how to use those. So far, weve been very happy with our purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy, automatic camera. On: 2007-02-11
Second Canon weve owned, youll be very happy if you decide on this. Quick shipping by Amazon and a great low price. On: 2007-02-11
After reading a lot of reviews I bought this camera. Consumer Reports shows Canon as one of the lowest brands for repairs needed. I wanted a digital camera to put in my pocket. It is fun to have the ability to take movies too. I purchased a second battery, as there is little warning when the battery needs to be recharged. Otherwise, this camera is a great little camera. It will download pictures directly into my HP OJ 6210 if I chose to print them without downloading into the computer.
No complaints at this time.
