EX-Z1000     On: 2008-07-30

This was a fine camera, purchased by my daughter and her husband for my birthday. I absentmindedly left it at an ATM in Prague, and it was gone when I returned to try to recover it a few minutes later. I recently purchased the identical camera through Amazon, partly because I was happy with it the first time, but especially to show the kids that their gift was not unappreciated. Now that I am becoming more familiar with its many great features and functions, Im appreciating it even more. Its small and lightweight, easy to carry, and yet takes terrific pictures in varied lighting conditions both indoors and outside, as long as the user takes the time to learn the easy-to-use settings provided. The rechargeable battery lasts much longer than the non-rechargeable dry cell batteries I used to use in my Olympus camera. The EX-Z1000 was sent to me at reduced price in an opened box, but in excellent condition, and I am very pleased with the value I got for my money.
Small compact with great picture quality     On: 2007-10-04

Bought this camera for my daughter. My sister had a Casio but the 5 mp and the 10mp is truly a better quality picture. My daughter carrys it with you at all times. The picture quality and zoom is great. The only quality we do not like is when you snap the picture there is a delay before the flash leaving you with a different picture then anticipated.
Great Shots     On: 2007-07-29

I have had this camera for about 7 months. Pictures taken during the day are beautiful and the colors are vibrant. At nights the pictures are not very clear.
Nice find for the price     On: 2007-07-19

This is a great camera for the price. I was looking to upgrade from a 4mp camera and was a bit worried because the price was so low. I use the camera for fun so I wasnt too concerned about all the extras. This one has alot of nice extras and it really easy to use.
I like it     On: 2007-07-18

At first when I got the camera in the mail I was dissapointed when i first started using it, because the shutter speed is slower than my old camera when it is on the basic setting. My first pictures that I took with it were really blurry and I almost returned the camera. However now I have gotten used to the camera and take the most amazing pictures with it!!
Flawed Design & Awful Out-of-Warranty Customer Service     On: 2007-06-23

The camera has a smaller sensor than previous Casio models and sets the aperture to the largest available for any light setting when using the "general" best shot setting. So pictures tend to be fuzzy.
You cannot set the aperture or the shutter speed manually. The Best Shot feature is convenient for camera-dummies, but a pain for the rest of us. Searching for the correct aperture/shutter speed combination by selecting one icon out of 40 takes a long time and is very hit-and-miss. There is no explanation of what are the aperture/shutter settings - you just have to try them all out. You have usually missed the shot by then. I scanned a few websites to see if other people are having the same problems as I: fuzzy pictures, and lack of control over settings. They are.
Finally, the repair service is appalling. I just came back from a search of the web to find out how to get my camera fixed (the LCD screen is flashing on and off intermittently and the Casio digital camera online repair server link does not work). Out of warranty service for Casio digital cameras seems to have a miniumum charge of $250 (see the forums at Steves digicams for a discussion of this). I thank heaven my camera is still in warranty. But I think my next camera will be a Canon.
Great Camera     On: 2007-06-18

Affordable price. Small footprint. It literally is just point and shoot. Careful on the zoomed shots as they have the potential for blur. But that is really with any camera. Get this camera before the price goes back up $300. This is simply the best purchase Ive made in a long time.
LCD cracked for no apparent reason     On: 2007-06-10

I have had the camera since Febuary and while it does take great pictures, I opened the case yesterday to find the LCD cracked. To replace this would be $150.00 minimum which is half the price I paid. I did not drop it, it was in the case in my purse. Apparently after speaking with Casio you are not supposed to put it in a purse or in a suitcase. Well this will not work for me and I have never heard of such. I have to have something more durable. I am basically out 276.00 which is what I paid in Febuary. Its too bad because it did take great pictures and was very compact, just too fragile.
Works GREAT .. wish the flash would reload faster.     On: 2007-05-28

All cameras Ive bought (started at 2MP, 5MP, 7MP, 8MP now 10MP) ... have a similar flaw to them from all manufacturers: Sony, Konica, HP, Canon and Casio ... they all recharge the flash too slowly. This one is actually the fastest, but cant get it faster than 1.3 seconds...well, thats life.

Picture and video quality is fantastic. Audio recording is pretty good too.

Get at least the 2GB (150x) or higher memory...especially for short videos.

** Tip on any camera you buy: Try to get the extra warranty that covers accidents (drops, spills, etc) from Day-1 because you can and probably WILL drop a camera at some point...and finding someone to repair it is a pain (not to mention minimum $100)...just pay $50 up front and dont sweat it for a few years. **

Casio has impressed me with its newer cameras...nice job !

external battery not convenient     On: 2007-05-22

I had the old 3.2 mpeg Exilim for years and recently upgraded to this one.

It was not obvious when I did the research to buy this, but the external battery charger turned out to not be a good idea. Unless you have 2 batteries to switch around.

The problem
1. you take battery out to recharge
2. say you leave the battery in the charger for a few days
3. put battery back into camera, everything resets and the camera asks you to enter date/time again. urgh... annoying...

I still like the Exilim, but just wished I didnt get one with external battery.
Awesome Camera     On: 2007-05-08

Point and shoot, that is it. This camera is really good at just taking the shot when you need to. the flash charges quick between shots, and the battery lasts much longer than a camera on AAs. As with any camera, you need to watch your shots when you zoom, because that is when you have the potential for blur. The detail and depth is amazing when you hit something at the correct light and focus. Does very well in the dark. I would recommend this to anyone.
Digital SLR users first point and shoot digital camera     On: 2007-05-05

Being a long time digital SLR user, heck I even had a Nikon D100. I was extremely reluctant to purchase a non-SLR digital camera. But I must say this casio changed my mind.

Pros:
Small, light weight, large LCD, works with 4GB SHDC card
Great pictures, resolution is amazing
Color is better than I expected
Paid $209 from Dell
Video feature is fun

Comments:
Camera cannot make up for your lack of photo skills
Images are blurry if you shoot to slow during shots with movement
Images are noisy if the ISO to too high

Cons:
Needs to be in dock to charge and transfer pictures (buy large SD card and multiple batteries)
Automatic mode on this camera is fair to average

Although a digital SLR has advantages with lenses/flashes/etc. I find myself reaching for this camera 95% of the time. If Dell still had them on sale I would buy a second one, my wife already keeps this one in her purse 100% of the time.
Great Camera!     On: 2007-04-23

There is a reason why this camera is rated number 1 on Amazon. I highly suggest buying it; it is easy to use and the quality is wonderful. Get the 2gb memory card, its worth the extra few bucks, and you never need to delete pics again!
Five Stars     On: 2007-04-04

Great product, great price, great company, quick delivery. We love the small size.
Poor facial images     On: 2007-04-02

Ive just returned this camera for poor facial image quality after using it extensively for months. My regular camera is a Fuji Finepix S602z which is large and bulky, but, takes superb facial shots. I tried the Casio due to needing something small to carry in my purse for special events and Im heartbroken at the incredible photo opps Ive had that resulted in poor facial quality. Dont buy this camera if you care about what everyone looks like.

Ive just ordered the PowerShot SD1000 because of the facial detection feature on it. Hopefully, it is better since I dont want to have to carry my bulky Fuji to get great facial photos. Ill review the Cannon once Ive had it for a few months.
Worst Camera I've ever owned     On: 2007-03-27

This camera takes blurry pictures straight out of the box. One mistake I made was to not take my own SD card to the camera shop and look at the output. I thought the blurry image I was seeing at the camera store was because of the low resolution screen but it really is the camera. Ive missed too many pictures of my kids and am in the process of buying a new camera a short 2 months after buying this.
Casio support was responsive and tried to help but nothing appears to work. And point and shoot is definately not an option. I thought it would be nice to take quick pictures of the kids but none of them are worth keeping. Ive taken over 200 pictures and I will not print any of them.
Great camera for everyday     On: 2007-03-25

Bought this for my husbands birthday, he can carry it around in his shirt pocket. It is great to not have to carry batteries, it recharges in its own cradle. Batteries seem to last a fair amount of time. It takes pictures quickly also. My son and I received different models of Casio cameras for Christmas and we are both very happy.
Calidad     On: 2007-03-25

Me encuentro muy conforme con el producto, es de excelente calidad y muy buen precio. Amazon es para mi el mejor sitio para la compra de cualquier producto.
so much bang for buck it is scary
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-21

This little unit is a take anywhere camera that will do the job for just about anything.
The kids can easily use it, and the back screen is large enough you can really see what you are shooting at without having to squint.
The menu structure is basic but adequate.
I have seen this unit priced alot more at other places of high reputation but once again Amazon and its other retailers come up with the goods. Thanks.
not for professional     On: 2007-03-15

casio exilim camera get compact size, looks fancy, but does not take good picture, also lcd display quality kind fuss.
Great Camera for High Resolution & good quality pictures     On: 2007-03-10

I bought Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 to see its 10.1 MP capability and slim look and now I am very happy with the performance of this camera.
In 10.1 MP segment this is perfect choice. Picture quality is really very good especially for high resolution pictures (Large size photo) and Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 have good frame rate to capture video.
Overall this is perfect combination of high resolution (Power) and good quality pictures.
Box includes rechargeable Battery, Charger, Dock (Cradle), USB cable.

Vertical lines on LCD screen     On: 2007-03-08

I own several great digital cameras. It seems like I get one for each use - one with good zoom, another camera for its good flash use in lowlight and others. This one I wanted for the high MP in a small compact size that I can put into my pocket. The first few photos were great, taken outdoors in my sunny patio. Then every picture I took after that (same settings - fine, HQ, poster 10m etc... and vertical lines started showing on the LCD screen and the pictures were all washed out. When I download them on the computer, they look exactly that way too - with the lines and almost all white. Ive played around with the settings (and I do know how to work them) but still it does the same.
So time to return to find a better one. Thats too bad since I read some good reviews and wanted to have it.
Best /Easiest Camera EVER!!     On: 2007-02-20

This camera is amazing. Best point-and-shoot camera I have ever owned. The anti-shake works flawlessly for crystal clear shots. My whole family owns Canon and when they saw the quality of my pictures, they all wanted new cameras. The only critism I would have is that I didnt realize the memory card was not included and I had to order it after the camera arrived. If I had known, I would have ordered the card at the same time... did get a great deal on Amazon for a Kensington 1g card and reader for $25.

Love Casio, just not this particular one     On: 2007-02-18

Short & sweet: the camera takes BEAUTIFUL outdoor pictures (or any in-door photos not requiring a flash), but once you get into an indoor photo-situation, the flash seemed to be poor, the colors not true, and a LOT of digital noise in low-light situations. Also, the anti-shake didnt give the protection that I thought it should have; still some blurry shots with minimal shake. Loved the cradle to charge & upload, and loved the big screen. I guess that I might have been expecting too much, but given that this is their "flagship" camera, and given the price, I just didnt feel that the value for the dollar was there.

My previous camera was a Casio EX-Z57, and I really feel that it was a better camera than the Z1000 (I banged the screen and cracked the LCD layer, rendering it useless, else I would still have it).

A very good camera, but not a great one. A lower price-point could help justify its shortcomings, but arent great photos the ultimate goal?

bad quality     On: 2007-02-01

the pictures are blurr. they doesnt seem like 10 MP pictures. and with this bad quality they are over sized. One picture is of 3-4 MB.
Benefit outweighs the cost     On: 2007-01-31

Pro - The audio and video quality are very good for the price. Switching between normal functions is simple.

Cons - The docking station is annoying. It has to be used everytime you want to put your pictures on the computer (a card reader is a good idea for $7), and you have to have it when you charge it.

CASIO EXILIM EX-Z1000     On: 2007-01-27

CAMERA WORKS WELL. HAVE TAKEN MANY VERY GOOD PHOTOS ON FIRST TRY, IN ART GALLERY FOR PERSONAL USE. VERY SATISFIED!!!!!
Great Camera!     On: 2007-01-25

I bought this camera as a replacement for the older version. This is a wonderful camera, I highly recommend it!
Great buy!!!     On: 2007-01-24

I love this camera. The pics are so crisp and clear. For the quality and price you cant beat it.
Mediocre Camera     On: 2007-01-22

I bought this camera thinking that I would be able to take really good Night Shots, The Anti-Shake Does not work at Night and its as good as my Sony DSC-P52 Cybershot(3.2MP) at taking night shots, Its an alright camera for the price and 10MP but I wouldnt recommend it for serouis photographers, this is the camera you wanna take to your vacation or such but not if your a serious shooter, the lens is pretty small and there arent any Wide Angle/Fish eye Lens add ons. I kind of wish I didnt waste my money on it and got an SLR but its good for what it is and nothing more
Bad design     On: 2007-01-22

Camera has a fatal design flaw - the zoom lens assembly is fragile, locks up and malfunctions easily. If camera is out of warranty repair costs $119. I am on my second repair, when the zoom lens breaks the third time Ill be ready for a new camera from a different manuafacturer.
The best for the money.     On: 2007-01-19

I bought this camera after looking at 20 other cameras in its price range. Nothing compares to it as far as quality goes, this camera is great. I use it with a Patriot 133x 4GB SD card and it works FLAWLESS and VERY FAST. Pictures always come out crisp and clear, and the camera itself is very slim, sleek and beautiful. If you want a great point and shoot with some serious resolution for a great price, BUY IT.
Casio Exilim EX-Z1000     On: 2007-01-19

Overall a good camera for users who want an easy to use point and shoot digital camera with a large LCD screen. The video quality could be better though because it only records at 25 frames per second.
Night time pictures     On: 2007-01-14

This camera although wonderful it is not good for night time pictures. They come out either too dark or the camera cant focus. The videos at time come out adequate.
Great Camera!!!     On: 2007-01-12

This camera is by far the best point & shoot digital I have ever owned. The pictures are as good as any digital SLR I have seen, with a price that is much better. Functionally, it is easy to use and the large display is really nice and the camera doesnt drain the battery like others I have owned in the past. In fact, I have had this camera for 2 months now and have not recharged the battery yet. I am very impressed with Casio for putting out such quality in a camera.
Late Adopter Pleaser     On: 2007-01-11

I replace my first digital 1.3 mega pixel Sony with the Casio EX-Z650, The picture quality was off, I think the Auto focus might have been broken.
But just before I returned it the EX-Z1000 went on sale at Amazon to make the difference trivial.
I bought another Casio because I had seen the quality from a friends camera and knew what it was capable of.
Since I was replacing my 1.3Mp camera, I also decided that I was not an early adopter, nor would I be replacing this next camera anytime soon, so if I was to be satisfied with the camera capabilities for a long time, then I better look at the top end of the cameras that met my needs.
My Sony was bulky and slow, took few pictures, went through batteries in under a day of shooting and had a tiny hard to see LCD which was off most of the time to try to make it possible to conserve the battery.
I needed something small to carry and which would have a longer battery life, and better quality images when printed.
I have a 6 month old son, and have been using the Z1000 to capture moments in time.
I couldnt be happier with the quality and ease of use.
The "Best Shot" choices is something I had not seen before with my Sony and its wonderful. I am able to very quickly change from indoor shots, to fast motion, to landscape, to movies and back to portraits.
The movie output format make the movies "Large" so for emailing I use a conversion program to knock a 2 minute 16meg file down to 700k (which doesnt choke most email systems).
The battery life is nothing short of miraculous. 500 shots the display is always on when the camera is on, and showing people the the movies we take right on the camera, and still I havent seen the low battery symbol.

Excellent camera     On: 2007-01-11

I have used a lot, it has several options on how to take the pictures. The display is really big and brigth.
Great Camera     On: 2007-01-10

This is the second Casio Exilim that I have given as a present to children and they love the cameras. One suggestion is to protect the view screen as soon as possible since it costs a lot to replace if you accidently "pit" the screen.
Good performance     On: 2007-01-10

I was looking for a camera to give my wife for Xmas and after using this one it became MY carry-around camera. I do have the Nikon D80 set which I use for serious shooting but for quick shots and for travelling this is a great camera.

The quality of the camera is very good. Pictures are sharp (when theyre focused - more on that later). Color accuracy is very good. I have 6MP SLR camera before and I can say that this 10.1MP is equivalent and in some cases better than the 6MP SLR. Contrast is very good. In fact, in sunlight it is hard to take "bad" pictures. Macro pictures are great. Youll be amazed at the results. For what I paid for ~$300 this is a good deal.

Now come some gripes... The focusing mechanism is not always consistent. I can shoot the same subject twice and would get one picture in focus and one out of focus (yes, I aim the focusing spot on the face of the subject first, get the green confirmation, then recompose). This seems to happen when there is less lighting in the room which, unfortunatly is the case normally...

The flash is weak. Outside of 3~5ft range it will be useless. When I take a picture of a group of like 20 people in a room the picture was grossly underexposed.

I could never got the video feature to work but never really botherd to call Casio. The documentation was clear and short but perhaps too short.

One other thing that bothered me was the delay between pressing the shutter release button and when the picture was actually taken was long in my opinion. I guess I was used to my Nikon D80 SLR fast release so when I use the Casio I "mistimed" the exposure.

All in all, this is a great all-around camera to have. Very compact. Built solidly. Excellent performance (once you identify its weakness).
Highy recommend.
wonderful little thing     On: 2006-12-29

I will simply echo MrDanBear (below) and say that anyone getting bad pictures from this camera under good lighting conditions is either doing something wrong or has a defective unit. America is buying DSLRs like crazy but who will carry one of those out on a walk or to work? The best camera in the world is of little use if you do not have it there for the picture. The best shot system is outstanding--you can modify almost all of the parameters even on the preset bestshots; and you can define many bestshots of your own. Nikon et al should study Casios menu system.
SD Cards     On: 2006-12-20

I dont know why some of the other people have a problem with this camera. I have been using this camera for a few months now, and I think its fantastic. The battery life is amazing, the Best Shots feature is great, and you couldnt ask for a better resolution. However, before you buy this camera, I must warn you that a standard SD card will be extremely slow for this camera if you take pictures at full (10.1) mega pixels, and shooting videos will be impossible. I would recommend a SanDisk Ultra II or a SanDisk Extreme III (best choice), as they have a much higher read/write speed than a standard SD card. The extra cost for these cards is well worth the benefits.
Highly Overrated     On: 2006-12-17

Casio really missed the boat here. In pushing the resolution up to 10.1 megapixels, they lost far too much from the better 8 megapixel EX-Z850. I tried two examples, after taking the first one back. The second one proved the first wasnt defective.

This thing is a red-eye machine that puts out pictures that are noisy at best, and overprocessed at worst. It has lost the manual exposure controls, the optical viewfinder and the sharpness of the EX-Z850, as well as falling behind comparably priced competitors.

The oversized (but not class leading) 2.8" LCD adjusts its brightness in response to ambient light conditions. What is disconcerting, especially in light of the missing optical viewfinder, is the screen abruptly changes brightness levels after youve framed your shot. This makes for difficult judgments on exposure.

This camera does offer good manual focus adjustments, as well as 34 presets, including several for ID photos. I am uncertain how useful that would be for the average user, but if you ever need to take passport photos, I guess this camera might have an advantage for you.

The video function took a step back, producing 25fps, instead of 30fps. I dont quite understand this, since the shutter if fairly quick, crisp and responsive. Even so, this camera falls short on time between shots, with a long recovery time. Turn up the resolution or turn down the lights and this thing can take an abysmal 6 seconds between shots. For this, I blame the cameras slow and insufficient onboard cache - something you cannot replace or add to.

With those lights down and the camera running at ISO 400, pictures come out with very indistinct details and quite a bit of graininess. Compression artifacts and ghosts increas as the light goes down, too.

The camera takes decent images in bright light, but since youre forced to rely on the LCD viewfinder, bright light photos are often difficult to frame. In low light, much of the performance is subpar, rendering images that are often unusable.

The fact this camera is packed full of features and has simple controls will draw many lookers. It is a clean design, although to my eyes, not as stylish as some offerings from Panasonic, Sony or Canon. Regardless, the features and clean design dont matter if the camera doesnt take good photos and this camera really misses the mark. There are HP cameras costing less than half as much that take better pictures.

Anyone who doesnt relegate this thing to expensive paperweight status doesnt know what a decent camera can do. The Casio EX-Z1000 just doesnt make a decent grade.
Change the default settings before use     On: 2006-11-17

I read all of the online reviews posted here on Amazon before I bought this camera. When I got it, I was very disappointed with the quality of the photos. It seemed that my old 3MP camera took better quality photos. However, I learned from the camera manual that the problem lies with the cameras default settings. Here are my suggestions. When you get the camera, go into the setup mode and change the following settings. Suggestion #1 In the REC menu, turn off the digital zoom. Suggestion #2 In the QUALITY menu, change the Photo Quality from NORMAL to FINE. From some reason Casio does not have the camera set to its optimum settings. I am sure the negative reviews posted by people here on Amazon were made by people who did not make these minor adjustments to the camera. [...] After I made these two adjustments, I was very happy with this camera. It now takes great photos! This is just my two cents....
Casio EX-1000     On: 2006-11-10

Excellent high-end point and shoot. With the "red eye setting the camera reacts slowly after you push the shutter release and I still have to use my editing software to remove the red. Easy to use. Excellent battery life.
A perfect pocket digital camera     On: 2006-11-10

The camera fits easily into a pocket or purse so that it is perfect to always have on hand. Has ease of use with pre-programmed settings for almost every lighting condition. The pictures are terrific. I bought it and used it immediately at a wedding and several group situations. The camera came through with flying colours.
Great Product     On: 2006-11-07

This was a great purchase, exactly what I was looking for... I still havent used it much but I am happy about my new item. Not much to say... Its a good camera.
5 stars, but terrible customer support for problems     On: 2006-10-26

like previous EXILIM cameras, this one is rich with features and excellent performance. The problem arises when there is a problem, like a stuck lens cover. The repair / support process is as bad as I have ever seen. The repair facility has no quality, is not customer responsive, and basically will charge for items under warranty.

Although I have purchased several Casios, including the EX-Z1000 and am happy when the camera works, the repair process is bad enough for me to no longer purchase.
Very grainy in less than very bright light     On: 2006-10-20

I give the Casio Exilim Z1000 poor marks only after much thought about what a drag it is to give a negative review for such a sweet-looking camera. I researched the Z1000 before buying it. I read the few reviewers who complained about the graininess of the photos at lighting conditions that were less than very, very bright, but they were over-shadowed by many more glowing reviews.

I previously owned the Casio Exilim EX-Z110 6MP and the photos it took were never grainy, even in low light. When I saw that the Z1000 had four more million pixels, I thought that it would give me 2/3rds more resolution, but that, sadly is not the case. The grainy pixelation is so pronounced that it looks like a PhotoShop grainy filter.

The flash, as it states in the documentation, is only effective at 8 feet or less. More that that produces lots of indistinct images with lots of grain.

On the positive side, if the Auto ISO default is turned off and ISO 50 or 100 is used, and if you shoot all of your subjects in the very brightest light, the images do come out looking pretty crisp.
Outstanding Camera     On: 2006-10-20

This camera is simply unbelievable. On a 2 day trip I took over 400 pictures and the battery is still on full. Every picture is in focus, I never have to manually focus it. It fires off pictures very quickley as long as you are not using flash. The zoom abilty is amazing. I have shown the zoomed pictures to a proffesional photographer and he was amazed. If you are looking for great indoor shots or low light get a larger camera with a larger flash. I rarely use flash and even in low light without flash I am pleased with the pictures. They are grainy but color is good and good enough for me. My purpose for the camera is outdoor scenic and macro. I am very very happy with this one. It absolutely does everything Casio says it will. I have had the camera for 6 months and have taken several thousand pictures.
Designer loves this Camera     On: 2006-10-20

Smart & High Performance Camera....Super compact, classy design (Eva-10 hard case fits a bit tight hight-wise but protects the camera very nice) super light-weigth, excellent quality of images at day, with flash, with low light (grain controled by changing ISO and practicing), nice optical zoom, amaaaazing macro (see things you havent seen in your plants), antishake function helps shaky hands, super fast to start up, super simple and intuitive to understand, browse and set up, easy to access predetermined "best shots", ready to use with Macs and Ipods. Huuuuge screen to see your pix. Video is nice quality (optical zoom disabled in video). Long lasting battery. Fits 120 10MP pix (or 6 to 28 minutes of video) in a 512 MB SD card. Base plugs 3 cables (usb, electric, video), keep it in your desk, snap your camera in, click one button and you are ready to download/print/watch a slide show in your tv. Comes with basic printed manual and CD with manual in 7 lenguages (260+ pages each)... do you really want printed manuals? (quit wasting paper!), You noticed you can (dont HAVE to, but CAN) shoot 10 Megapixels? (in case you want to have a 9x12 in 300 dpi image)... sweet !!! Did you see that price tag? :-D
Casio quality and customer service     On: 2006-09-27

I bought a Casio Exilim 3 years ago. Since that time, the viewer cracked and the cost of the repair was 90% of the cameras price. Then the software began to malfunction, intermittently, by that time out of warranty. I find Casio has great features on paper but after the sale service not at all satisfactory. So, what to do? I bought a very simple 5MP Kodak Easyshare. It is interesting in the end, after weeks of research, I would choose Kodak. My brother in law had one, it was very reliable, everyone in the house could use it, and it was reasonably priced. And judging from user reviews, Kodak will turn around a broken camera in 48 hours. Ill take that over a bunch of bells and whistles anyday.
WONDERFUL CAMERA FOR A GOOD PRICE!     On: 2006-09-25

the casio ex-z1000 is really out of its league, i have worked and held many cameras and none are quite as light, or that can even compare! It has 10.1 MP which is awesome quality, so you are asured that every picture is priceless, and although it only has 3x it deserves MUCH MORE CREDIT!! it has been depicted so awful by some people and I dont understand why. It is good quality, light, has alot of self-doing things such as shutter speed, lighting and so forths, lots of automatics, red eye reduction RIGHT ON THE CAMERA! so no need to go to a place and have it done, and you can crop and do alot of things right on the camera! It is wonderful, and although I am a big cannon fan, i think I will be sticking with casio, they are way out of everyones leagure GREAT BUY! I dont regret any of the money i spent or anything at all about the camera, it acts so fast and is a great camera! I brag about it all the time, and have not been biased in anything you ask, ill answer!
Best Digital Pictures Ever     On: 2006-09-11

I have an Exilim 1000 for about a week now, I started without reading the manual, got many incredible prints, the best I have ever seen out of any digital camera, the difference between those and the rest is the 10 megapixs, make a huge difference, even printing on a 4 x 6 the difference is so obvious, the manual is on the cd, it must be run on the Adobe Reader, ok, so no big deal.
I few things I did,nt know were easy to fine and learn, I have had many digal cameras, unfortunately, most were not up to what I expect, the Casio is u there all by itself, battery life is excellent, just to many nice features go into here. Notice on the reviews that many people had negatives about it, well, maybe they got early ones or whatever, all I can say is the Casio is outstanding, I am sure that in the months to come especially before Christmas, all the manufacturers will come out with pocket sized 10 megapix or more cameras.

Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1000

I purchased and paid for a Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1000. The third day after it was received, it failed. I sent the camera back to Casio and after about three weeks they returned it to me. Having called several times, I was unable to locate the camera. It seemed that the employees were too lazy or too inefficient to check about this camera. But for the fact that I had a proof of delivery from United States Post Office the camera may have been lost by the incompetence of the Casio repair system. After multiple calls of an almost prayerful nature I finally found out the order number of the camera and was told it would be a few weeks until the part could be obtained. About a month after I purchased and paid for the camera it was returned by Casio. It was dropped at the doorstep without any requirement for a signature.

I opened the box couple of days after I received it and attempt to take photographs. The alleged repair did not cause the camera to work properly as is promised in the advertising and their manual that comes with the camera.

I sent it back to Casio again. I was told that this camera would be replaced with a new camera within seven to 10 business days.

The camera was purchased and paid for July 12, 2006. Casio says they will return a new camera to me after September 18, 2006. The reason they gave is that they do not have a replacement camera and they have to wait for new one to come from Japan. The date of this writing is September 7, 2006.

I intend to file a suit against Casio for fraud [the intentional misrepresentation of a material fact to cause the customer to act to his/her detriment] along with a request for punitive damages.

I would advise no one purchase a Casio camera because their warranty service is nearly worthless. I called Casio about 10 times and never received a single reply. On the 10th time, I was told by the representative that she had called me. I told her there was no such call on any log. She said she did not leave a message. Then she said someone answered the phone and hung up. Then she said she called my Florida telephone number. I check my Florida telephone number and no such call was of received. She then gave me a phone number in New Mexico. I checked the telephone log on that telephone number and there was no such call. A feeble excuse was then made saying it sounded as if someone answered the phone and hung up. I retorted, if I wanted to convey information and the telephone did not operate properly I would call again. She never would answer why she did not leave a message.

To make Casio and better corporate citizen and to cause them to produce a better and more reliable product and raise their awareness of the importance of customers, PLEASE DO NOT BUY CASIO!

Not as good as the 7.2 Exilim     On: 2006-09-06

I purchased this camera after my son broke my Casio Exilim 7.2. Unfortunately, most of the stores dont carry the 7.2 models anymore. I bought the latest model EX-Z1000 instead assuming that itll be just as good, if not, better.

I was disappointed to find out that when I took pictures, it had these vertical lines on the LCD screens. Looks defective, but Im not sure if that is normal with this model. I just returned it anyways. Another thing was that the fact that its higher in resolution, it fills up my memory card so much quicker. But I dont notice it being any more clearer than my older one. The more I use this, the more my I miss my old camera.
Great Camera     On: 2006-08-29

Great performance in a small package. Really solid feel. Not an SLR by any means, but perfect to carry around in your pocket for unexpected - and expected - photo ops. Small enough for CIA agents, presumably. Great pix for family and vacation shots.
10 megapixels and More     On: 2006-08-24

I have used the camera heavily over the past four weeks in good, bad and marginal lighting conditions. I am very pleased with the picture quality and the ease of access to the numerous pre-set picture modes. The LCD is huge and visible in all lighting situations. The flash is powerful and well modulated in different situations. The menu is always visible on the lcd and it is easy to call up flash , self timer modes and settings. The camera boots quickly and takes additional pics quickly. One complaint, the finish is already flaking off on top in one month!
Wow!     On: 2006-08-13

I love this camera! Nice video cam also. Small enough to fit in a pocket. Great resolution. Tons of features. (Get a 4GB SD card and you can take up to 40 minutes of video!)
Excellant Camera     On: 2006-08-07

I tried a lot of cameras to get the best balance between "point and shoot", portability and above all picture quality. I must say I am proud to have made the best decision here. There are tons of other cameras around and I picked the diamond in the rough. I really like it. I dont have to mess with it much and I dont want to although its got tons of features.
Decent camera for the price and WOW factor     On: 2006-08-03

I previously had the Casio EX-Z750 7.1MP digital camera and thought it was a decent camera so i went with the EX-Z1000. Even though its in the same line-up as the EX-Z750, its a completely different camera. I consider myself a power user - so far, the EX-Z1000 has accomodated my needs fairly well. You cant set as many manual settings as in the EX-Z750 but the increase in ISO sensitivity makes up for it. The only downside that I have seen is in the LCD: photos look a little blurry and distored even though they arent. I would definately recommend this camera to someone looking to get an ultra-compact camera with good image quality.
casio exilim ex-1000     On: 2006-08-01

So far I am very pleased with this camera. The quality of the pictures have been excellent. The battery life is great, much better than other cameras I have. This camera has many options and I have not yet figured them all out yet. The video capabilities are surprising, the speaker is impressive.
GREAT COMPACT CAMERA     On: 2006-07-28

I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!!
IT IS SLEEK AND STYLISH. THE PICTURES ARE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY. THE CAMERA IS USER FRIENDLY AND EAST TO OPERATE. MY ONLY CONCERN IS THE CAMERA DID NOT COME WITH A MANUAL. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO USE THE FEATURES THE CAMERA YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THE 300 PAGE MANUAL FROM THE INTERNET. I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND INVESTING IN A QUALITY MEMORY CARD. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
Disappointed User     On: 2006-07-22

I bought a EX-Z750 a year ago, and I was quite satisfied with the performance. However, an unfortunate drop (it wasnt even a very hard fall) rendered the camera non-functional. Being a satisfied Casio customer, I went out and bought the latest model: EX-Z1000. Boy, was I disappointed! Where do I begin? Most importantly, the pictures completely lack detail. I asked my wife to take the same shots of me with a Nikon Coolpix 3MP I bought several years ago. The Casio lacks a lot of details of my skin texture and hair. In addition, with reasonable room lighting, the Casio pictures cant see the books on my shelf in the background, while the Nikon shows them clearly. Also, the LCD screen of the Casio was very noisy and grainy.

Casio was so desperate to roll out the first 10MP consumer camera when its technology wasnt ready, and it has definitely lost me as a loyal user.

I promptly returned the camera.
The Perfect Slim Camara     On: 2006-07-10

Probably the best slim camara available for its price.
My only take on it is that the Strape included with the camara is too small for a mans hand, it should be about 5cm longer.

Waiting for an Exilim EX-P1000, to follow the popular EX-P700 which was quite a hitter.
DEAD DIGITAL ZOOM & NO MANUAL AVAILABLE (not even a pdf)     On: 2006-07-08

As a long time Casio digital camera user, I was looking forward to using my new EX-Z1000. Unfortunately, it arrived with a non-functional digital zoom. No, not user error, I assure you. Its just plain not working. (The Casio Tech Services rep I spoke to, while helpful, appeared to know less about the operation of this camera than I did.)

While I didnt expect a full printed manual in the box, I was surprised that even a pdf version is currently (July 06) not available anywhere, here or the U.K. web sites.

Heres the U.S. number to get a printed manual for this camera, when Casio finally gets its act together: 1-609-395-0154

Feels to me like this launch has been rushed for some reason - to take advantage of the summer vacation selling season, perhaps?
5th Casio Exilim Least Picture Quailty     On: 2006-07-05

I was looking forward to the newest Exilim camera, (I have five of them) but when I recieved my EX-Z1000 I was very disappointed with the quality of the pictures. Having owned Exilim zoom cameras since the 3.2mp I have always liked the ease of use along with the small size of the Exilim cameras ( I always carry one of my Exilim with me). When I get a new one I always compare the real world use of the new camera with my previous one. When I first shot the EX-Z1000 I was impressed with the new wide screen display and the new control bar, but when I put the pictures on my screen I was very disappointed they looked very grainy so I then did a comparison between my Exilim 7.2, 8.2, and the EX-Z1000 the clear winner is the EX-Z750 followed by the Ex-Z850 and in the rear of the pack the EX-Z1000. At this time I will continue to use my 7.2 and 8.2mp Exilims and I will be giving my EX-Z1000 as a Xmas gift to someone, due to the fact I cant return the camera without a restocking fee... My final review is, skip the EX-Z1000 get the EX-Z750 its the best value, takes great pix, and the best video movies for a camera of its size... Until the next new Casio Exilim... Have a Great Day! PCMD
A very good camera!     On: 2006-07-04

It is a very good camera. Would have given it a 5 except for the limited optical zoom. Extremely easy to use and thakes great pictures. I use it allot for macro mode pictures and they come out super. The battery life is amazing. I have a fuji 4700 digital that requies a battery change after only a few macro photos.....this sucker takes hundreds on one charge!
Another Excellent Exilim     On: 2006-06-24

This is my 4th Casio Exilim camera that I have purchased. Again, I have not been disappointed. The quality of the pictures are better than ever. I have not experienced any blurry pictures. Each model keeps getting better and better and the viewing screen keeps getting larger. I love it.
overeached?     On: 2006-06-11

Casio, which has made a series of extremely good Exilim series cameras, has made some odd tradeoffs with this one just to get to 10MP. While the resolution goes from 8MP on the EX-Z850 to 10MP with this one, the movie mode does not get any better (VGA) and both the photos and movies suddenly take up much more space. No Im not talking about 10MP vs. 8MP. Compare the size of photos at 5MP from EX-Z750 vs. EX-Z1000 and the Z1000 will only be able to take 70% of the photos of the Z750 with the same size SD card. And you get 12min of movie on Z1000 where you get 22min on Z750, even though its same 640x480 resolution. On top of that the NEWER Z1000 is 25fps while the older model is 30fps. Whats up with that? Its in the fine print in the manual. Also, while the resolution is a bit better, the Z1000 comes out overly contrasty and sometimes blurry from overexposed highlights - this is shooting with identical settings and under identical conditions. As a loyal Exilim user up to now, I was disappointed by this one and plan to return it and stick with my older model.
casio rocks     On: 2006-06-10

again i must agree with the other review and say this camera is great . You cant just take a few pictures and call the camera bad. Read the manual and learn how to properly set the camera and you will be amazed how great photos come out. Nice and compact size where it can fit in your pocket but this camera has so many options and is able to take crystal clear pictures. Worried about the screen put a screen protector on it. Anybody with a digital camera and some sense to them will realize any screen can be scratched. Had a previous casio and glad i upgraded to this. Worth the cheap price and pictures are by far the best i have seen for a "point and shoot" highly recommended.
The pictures don't come out bright     On: 2006-06-01

Okay my concern is why dont the photos come out bright? Dad and I bought 2 different cameras on the same day: he bought canon sd700IS and I bought casio ex-z1000. We took exactly the same pictures. Canon gives you a bright picture whereas casio gives you a dull quality picture. Dont get me wrong casio has a quality too but it cant compete with canon yet. And again trasfering pictures from the dock is totally awkward. It is low speed USB connection unlike canon which has high speed USB connectio. The movie clips take even longer to transfer.

And again neither the movies nor the snaps come out crispy with casio ex-z1000. The only problem with canon sd700IS is that I hear a noise while using in the movie mode. The hissing sound can not be eradicated. This is not a problem with casio. Oh yeah Canon still wins over the quality of the movie clip it takes even with that hissing sound.

The megapixel is promising with casio. If it says 10.1 megapixel it gives you 10.1 megapixel quality. Big LCD screen....hard to protect I can say that right away. You will get it scratched. Canon sd700IS is quite handly. I will return my casio ex-z1000 and probably settle with canon sd700IS as well unless someone really convinces me it can take similar pictures to Canon sd700IS.
Stunning Pictures     On: 2006-05-31

The other review of this camera had to have had a defective model, I have played with this camera now for over a week and it has taken some of the most stunning pictures I have ever seen for a digital. Some were close to 3MM quality, with brilliant detail. The blur that was mentioned is simply a matter of getting used to a camera with such a high pix rate and sensitivity. The more I learn the camera the better my pics have gotten. Stunning Camera. My advise TAKE YOUR TIME and learn the camera, dont just click a few pics and go, "oh well" thats not good.
Stay Away.. Better cameras out there     On: 2006-05-29

I purchased this camera last week at the local Ritz Camera. I put it to the test against my friends Canon 400 and my 5 year old Kodak 4 MP. Both other cameras took much brighter and clearer photos. Additionally the performance in low light was abysmal. The digital zoom is not very good and pictures with even a little optical zoom seemed blurry. This camera also has the problems of its predecessors in that in order to charge the camera or to connect to a computer, you must use the cradle. It is not very convenient if you plan to travel with this camera.

As a positive the user interface is actually pretty good, and the screen is very large and bright. The battery life is also supposed to be about 2-3x better then competitive cameras. Other then that the camera is betting on marketing 10MP rather than performance.

I have already returned the camera already and bought a Canon SD630. Id stay away from this unless you think it is impressive to have 10MP.
