Buyer Beware!     On: 2007-03-22

Although the features and price are tempting, the overall quality of the firmware (devices internal software) is below substandard quality.

Simple functions like finding and selecting songs is a real pain, requiring you to navigate through all songs available one at a time. With 2 GB of memory filled with files, this becomes real time consuming.

When you pause a song for only a few seconds, the player stops the current song completely and returns to the first song in the list. You must then find the song you were listening to all over again. There are no search functions available to help locate and play the song you want.

Many menu selections either dont work as expected or simply do nothing at all. Though I thought organizing songs into folders would make finding songs easier, the folder/directory selection feature doesnt select anything, and returns you to the first song in memory.

Although this items claims to play video, the one included on the player played great, all videos must be converted to a specific file format not standard in the US, using software included on the CD. The problem is the Windows only software accepts a limited number of video file formats, and I have had no luck with any files I have tried to convert.

Although connecting the player to a Mac OS computer was as straight forward as any other flash drive, connecting the player to Windows XP took several attempts, and all software on the CD only works on Windows. The Mac version of iTunes would not recognize this player.

Though headphones are included, the headphone jack does not accept a standard headphone mini-plug (it uses the smaller standard found on many mobile phones), so using higher quality headphones commonly available (like Sony or Koss) is not possible without a plug adaptor.

I would not recommend this player to anyone.
I bought the throw-away model     On: 2007-03-05

Quit working correctly after 3 weeks. Needs to be charged nightly, after only 1 1/2 hours of playtime.

Instructions are a joke. "no makee sense", written with a .5 pitch type!
Always repeats the same song, reset to autorepeat everytime I turn it on.

You get what you pay for. Amazon, you dishonor your reputation by allowing these to be sold on your sight.
cute...!     On: 2007-01-19

I recommended

vpod mp4 player     On: 2007-01-18

I like the size and style and features, but seem to be having trouble either with the charger or battery. There is no information in the instruction booklet as of the manufacturer or warranty or where to get service.
sucked     On: 2006-12-27

THIS IS A P.O.S. i shouldve put my money into an iPOD..at least theyre more dependable. the USB cord didnt work with the music player and the manual was the worst thing ever!!!it didnt help me at all with what i was trying to do. DONT BUY THIS MUSIC PLAYER!! if u see this warning in time dont buy it. buying an iPOD in person is better than goin thru this B.S. to contact seller. if it is too late..good luck
works good limited space.     On: 2006-12-08

has only 962mb free and not 1gb free. also manual is ok and you have to use the menu key held down as the selector which is counterintuitive. this comes with no software -- use mympxplayer for the three pieces you need, mainly amv convert tool 3.68, the mp4 player utilities to format this box and s1fw for the firmware flasher. remember to delete the resource forks on macosx or you mp3s from apples downloaded to this device wont play. it uses a 2.5mm jack so you need a convertor for big headphones.
do you enjoy a puzzle     On: 2006-10-26

I bought this because it has the FM built in. I am a bit of an NPR junkie and the extra benifit of pod casts was appealing. Perhaps the other reviewers actually got some type of instructions in the box. What I received was a tiny photo with numbers and labels but nothing actually refers to the controls on the device in a coherent way. There is a suggestion to read more on the web page, but no web page listed. The device does not even come with a reference to a manufacturer. It has a very small cd disk that must play on some special gizmo, but I sure would not put it in my mac, it would probably be intered there forever.
Once I got hooked on the challenge, figuring out the control possibilities is an interesting puzzle. I finally got the FM station I wanted, but I am not sure how, and I am afraid now to try any other station, it will be lost forever. The music plays fine, but for the news and science programs I listen to it would be nice to be able to move through the timeline of a particular recording like fast forward on a tape, but that feature I have not figured out. I did figure out how to pause and start again, but there is some mystical time limit on that option and then it turns itself off.
I can move MP3 files to the device from my Mac just fine, except then I have to do a complicated search and delete process after I eject it from the Mac to get rid of these strange ghost programs that also get left with each file transfer. If one does not do that, then the auto play of music stops at the end of almost every song, befudled by the "unknown file type."
For those of us with older eyes, one needs glasses, and good light to see the display, but hey, most of the world is like that now anyway, get over it.
Now that I am over the operator hurdle and can do the few things I want, mostly, this is a truly amazing tiny machine at an incredibly low cost. I can live with it.
Not cheap, just inexpensive     On: 2006-10-08

This product is really quite good for the price. Sure maybe the battery life could be longer, and the instructions could be clearer as they are written in poor english, but overall this product delivers.
It works without flaw with WMP11 also which is good for me. Though one slight drawback is it only holds 99 songs in a folder, so you have to create different folders to make full use of it. Still its far better than creating CDs and lugging around a portable CD player. This fits in my pocket nicely. Plus it has come in handy since my CD player in the car quit working, rather than get a new player for the card, I simply got a cigarette lighter FM transmitter and Im enjoying my tunes with this little device.
Highly recommend if you can to pick one of these up. Its a far better value than any name brand out there for what it can do. Heck it even can do voice recording or simply be used as a thumb drive for transporting other files.
What more could you ask for under $50.
A Great Deal     On: 2006-06-20

I travel alot and I love to bring my music with me. Up until I bought this, I was traveling with a portable CD player and all of my best CDs. It didnt matter if I consolidated all of my good music into a few mix CDs, it was still a pain to cart around all that plastic. I now believe that CDs and portable CD players are a waste of space. Of course you want your hard copies but at this price, leave em at home and carry only this. Its light weight and serves its purpose well. It may not be the fancy Ipod youve always wanted but compared to other cheapo mp3 players, this one has some great features. A voice recorder, fm radio, it supports WMA and MP3 files as well as playlists and file folders.
I did alot of shopping around to find the best deal and this is what I came up with. I can fit about 20 full CDs on it. The sound is pretty good too. It could use a little more bass but it has an equalizer with lots of choices like jazz, pop, rock and dbb. ( i could just be deaf from all the years having headphones embedded in my ears and thats why the bass doesnt stand out for me)
The down side to this product: theres a lever on the side that moves you through files and selects options. Its kind of a pain in the butt because selection depends on how long you push the button for and if you push it too long or not long enough, it gives you options you dont want. Its a tad tempermental that way. Also, you will find that its much easier to figure out how to use this little device on your own rather than reading the instructions. As a matter of fact, save your instruction booklet and send it Jay Leno for his Monday night Headlines. It reads like your worst stereo instruction nightmare but if your keg party is going a little slow, pull this guy out and watch your friends roll on the floor laughing. The instructions may not serve their intended purpose but at least you can get some use out of them.
This is how the instructions were conceived:

Supervisor in chinese factory: Anybody know how to read and write english?

Assembly line worker: I do. I learn from watching episodes of Brady Bunch and Hill Street Blues!
