I purchased this unit because it is stylish, functional, and feature-laden. Among the features that I liked are the plentiful venting (bottom, interior shelves and back), center speaker drawer, and (optional) flat screen stand.
The top of the first unit I received was damaged. Rather than replace the entire console, the manufacturer sent me a replacement top (also damaged). The second replacement top appears to be undamaged, but when I removed the old top, I discovered additional, hidden damage. ALL of the vertical panels (there are five) are split to varying degrees. Although I have repaired them with wood glue, this demonstrates lack of quality control, inferior materials and/or shoddy workmanship. The cherry veneer looks beautiful, but it chips easily.
I also had to replace the rollers that came with the unit with larger, 4" swivel casters. The stock rollers may be suitable for hardwood floors, but they are totally useless even on thin carpeting. And they only allowed the unit to be moved forward and back, not side to side.
If I had it to do over again, I would not purchase this unit, or any other AV cabinet made by BDI. This kind of quality I would expect in a $200 piece of furniture. But when the price is $1600, I should expect (near) perfection.
