The Wip330 is Really Great. People who are seeing the Wip330 as a BAD WIFI phone. Are People who dont know how to use it(or deal it). Just Ill give you the first bad use for some people, when they recive the phone they dont Charge the battery the right way it might be. Before using it.
THIS IS The Right way MUST BE : The power LED will flash, alternating between blue and purple. For the initial charge, allow the battery to
charge for at least 10 hours, so the battery will have a full charge, which is indicated by a solidly lit power
LED. This maximizes battery performance and life.
This is just only 1 Example of the Bad use

I bought this WIP330 phone because it was a Linksys... terrible mistake.
- upgrading the firmware is a difficult operation (far from being a one click operation)
- the phone battery is really poor
- the microphone is very bad and people always ask me to repeat what I say unless you shout in the microphone
- the phone regularly disconnect from the router, who knows why?
- linksys support is not up to the standard (I got a replacement and it just is exactly the same, they told me that no quality issue was reported on this device so far).
But : it looks nice, for sure !

It really is as bad as all those negative reviews. Standby time is about 20 hours. It cant seem to connect to some access points. If I set it to send inband DTMF, the 9 key doesnt work, but all the other keys work (I am using ulaw). http://m.yahoo.com doesnt work with the browser at all. Many web pages crash the phone. Very few web pages are usable--it isnt likely Ill be able to navigate the page to activate a hot spots wireless. The phone has a mystery button on the side that isnt mentioned in the instruction manual--I dont care enough to investigate what it does. Amazon calls it a "Speaker Phone". It isnt a speaker phone. When calling the WIP330, it only rings about 50% of the time, even though it claims to be connected to the access point and registered with my PBX. On: 2008-05-31
We were hoping this would be a good adjunct to our new integrated digital voip/landland/network phone system. Its great if you got your computer geek with you to get it signed on as it finds a new wi-fi location, and you dont mind really poor sound quality. Otherwise pass. My people now carry actual phones with a box that coverts cat5 to wireless. They work great, this doesnt. Overpriced, cool looking, not business friendly. Pass on this one wait for a better one. (and were Linksys lovers...whenever we can we buy Linksys!) On: 2008-05-06
Ive been running an asterisk server in my home for years, allowing free SIP and IAX access to family around the world. Ive always been looking for a Wi-fi device, and took the plunge on this phone.
I was happy with the devices size and interface. The embedded web browser makes it useful to get onto free wifi networks requiring "click to accept" registration, such as in many airports. The build quality felt pretty decent, too.
Battery life was questionable, and it seemed to require re-charging daily regardless of usage.
The built in web server made it useful for configuring the various SIP settings, much easier than using the alpha-numeric keyboard.
SIP connectivity to my asterisk server worked flawlessly, with both incoming and outgoing calls.
The reason I decided to return it was the sound quality. Folks on the other end of the connection said I sounded fine, however on the phone end the speaker was tinny and unnatural, making this feel like a toy. For the price that was unacceptable. On: 2008-01-23
Good service by Electronica Direct, quick response and package arrive well packed and no damage.
Phone working just fine. Easy Web Based setup. I realy enjoy it.

One thing Ive learned to watch out for with Linksys is the batteries
they use in such units. I can not find a part number for the
battery used by the WIP330 in any of their literature,
and there is not a battery product listed on Linksyss own web site. If this turns
out to be like the DPH540 before it, Linksys actually intends for you to
throw the unit away when the battery stops taking a charge.

I have owned my WIP330 for about six months now and I am very happy with it despite the quirks and problems it can raise.
Most people, just enter their local network login details, SIP details from their VOIP providers, switch it on and it just works. You may be one of those people.
However, some other users find the phone difficult to set up and a reasonable familiarity with networking and SIP protocols does make life easier if you enter all the details and it refuses to connect up. Sipgate and some other VOIP companies offer dedicated support for this device and that makes it much easier to get going.
It is certainly fussy over which router is used with it, as well as which radio channel is used. I have access to four routers and it connects up and stay connected to two of them with no problems, two of the others cause disconnects periodically, who knows why. The battery life is poor and nothing like the sixty hours claimed. Linksys support can best be described as... poor.
On the good side, call quality is superb, the phone looks uber cool, it can connect to hot spots requiring web based log ins - hotels, cafes etc - it is the only SIP phone on the market today that offers this. With a firmware downgrade (yes) or some tweaking it can connect to and use Skype; it can be used as a monitor for certain netcams and display live video, you can upload ringtones and desktop pictures, it has an excellent and comprehensive phone book and all these things can be accessed easily from your PC via your web browser. All the settings, network, SIP, phone book, ringtones, desktops can be back up to and restored from the PC. If you fancy browsing the web with a screen 2" by 1.5" then it can do that too.
So on balance if you are a reasonably techy person (or have access to one) and are looking for a wireless IP phone to use at public wifi hot spots as well as at home then there is no better phone available. I would not be without mine.
Oh yes, and the latest firmware upgrade - and the firmware is regularly upgraded - now offers support for Wireless-N routers, I think that no other SIP phone offers this. On: 2007-10-02
This phone works like a charm. Once you figure out which settings you need to set on it based on your VOIP provider, it works great. Just make sure you have a solid connection to your wifi source. Broadvoice provides good support of how to program the phone. Ive had it for about a month now and Im so glad I do have it. Im thinking of dropping Verizon and not getting a cell phone. Granted there are no common programs on the phone, such as an alarm, calculator, etc, but it is so much cheaper in the long run to own this than pay for cell phone service. Love it! On: 2007-08-30
I have bought two WIP330 recently (not on amazon). This device is an unfinished product full of bugs and holes. I am unable to use it normally. Even updating to latest firmware didt fix anything, all noticable bugs still present from the huge bunch of bugs.
In details:
Cant normally send DTMF signals
Restarts time to time
Battarys low very very shortly
Sometimes display stays illuminated after being idle
Sometims its impossible to turn off or on without pulling out battary
Something is strange with outgoing/incoming calls list
etc etc
and many many other bugs On: 2007-01-28
I JUST BOUGHT THE PHONE, AND SOME OPTIONS ARE MISSING IN IT. TRY TO CONTACT LINKSYS SUPPORT IS IMPOSSIBLE. AFTER DAYS WAITING I GOT THE EMAIL FROM THEN TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO RETURN THE PHONE TO THE SELLER.
I SELECTED THIS PHONE BECAUSE IS LINKSYS...BIG MISTAKE On: 2006-12-25
I have purchased two different batches of these phones, 20 in all. I have used them with 3 different VoIP providers (Telasip, AxVoice and ThinkBright) as well as two different internal VoIP systems (Asterisk and a router with SIP server built in). The quality control on these phones is TERRIBLE. 2 arrived with no sound at all. They were replaced by the reseller. ALL (every single one) of these phones lock up intermittantly. They all lose their registration with their SIP server on and ongoing basis. Often times, the only way to reestablish registration one must factory reset the phone and completely reconfigure it. The wireless range and quality is also terrbile. Battery life? Terrible. Man, this phone could and should have been great, but alas the greatness ended with the idea. On: 2006-12-24
