Mitsubishi WD-73732 73-Inch 1080p DLP HDTV By: Mitsubishi More Information

Have had the 73732 for about six months now. It is a HUGE beautiful picture in hd. Factory settings were actually TOO bright for my m-inlaw. I had to turn down the brightness for her!
As another reviewer said, make sure you will be sitting AT LEAST 10 feet back. 14 ft would be best. If youre only going to be 6 or 8 ft back from the screen, do NOT buy this tv. Its that big!
Im not real picky about sound, so the built in speakers seem fine to me.
One real problem that comes up occasionally is that the tv shuts off after ten or fifteen minutes of viewing. We thought it was overheating, or something, because it would shut off again after just a few minutes. Over and over. Customer service said to depress the hidden reset button. They said the tv is shutting down due to electrical surge or other unusual signals. Sometimes resetting works. Sometimes I just keeps turning off. We have a line conditioner which we thought would prevent this kind of problem. Fortunately it only happens a couple times a month. The rest of the time weve found the tv to be well worth the purchase. On: 2007-12-26

Now that is is turning off continuously after one minute, they are sending me a warranty lamp. But Im worried about how many times Ill have to replace the lamp after warranty is expired. From other posts on the internet, I see this a frequent problem with the Mitsubishi big screens. On: 2007-09-22
We were really not using the living room of our house much. I was in my office where I have a 32 inch LCD, my wife in the kitchen with a 25 LCD, and never the two shall meet...
TWEETER went out of business in our area and had everything on sale CHEAP, and there was the Mitsubishi 73 sitting there staring at us.
We now are in the living room together EVERY NIGHT. We are either watching DVDs or HD TV. Every time we watch I turn to my wife and say, "This is incredible!" We are watching favorite DVDs that I never got to see on a big screen and it is like going to the original showing at a movie theatre. We have watched John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, Harry Potter and Jack Sparrow, and they ALL look fantastic!
I am looking at a Blu Ray player now, but will wait to see what else comes out in the next couple of months.
So far, we are blown away by this TV and we sit close to it, about eight to ten feet and it is GREAT!
You MUST get the stand that comes with it. It just looks super. You will also want a better sound system to hook up to it.

Had this TV for about 30 days now and remain impressed with the quality. One word of warning... I had a credenza I planned on using that had close dimensions to the matching stand that is $449.00. After recieving the TV it was clear you really do need the matching stand to fit the TV properly. I ordered it locally from a Mitsubishi dealer for $295.00. Also when I bought this TV it was $2799.00... it has gone up and down from $2799.00 to $3499.00 over the past month. I have no idea why it keeps going up and down. Again, the picture is great and setup is very easy. I have it hooked to HD Cable and a PS3 ... the Blu Ray PS3 movie screen play is stunning. I dont think you can go wrong with this TV. On the fourth day of owning this TV, the lamp went out completely!! After talking to consumer relations, we found out that even though they will send you a replacement lamp, you (the customer) is responsible for replacing the lamp; they do not send out their service people to do it even while under warranty. Furthermore, after calling in to open a case, they give you a confirmation number and you have to write this number on your receipt (proof of purchase) and fax it to them before they will send the part out. What a HASSLE, not to mention the poor quality of the TVs lamp to go out on the FOURTH day of ownership. On: 2007-06-24
Honestly, the most amazing picture Ive ever seen. Its obviously a little on the "heavy side", but once you get it set up its a fantastic TV. The quality is fantastic. Would highly recommend this product. by: gadgester On: 2007-06-13
All I can say with this breathtakingly gorgeous HDTV is "wow!!!" Actually I couldnt even say it out aloud when I first turned it on because I was simply speechless. And the "wow" applies to both the picture quality (remember, not all 1080p TVs are created equal) and the price. 73", measured diagonally, is perfect for a large living room and for inviting friends over for a great party. This set is also the perfect companionion to the Sony Playstation 3: whether you play HD PS3 games or watch Blu-ray movies, youll have a blast each and every time. (Good thing that DLP-based TVs dont suffer from the "burn-in" problem.) This is just awesome. On: 2007-05-26
As a home service technician for a "large national company" Ive spent weeks doing research on the pros/cons for HDTV. My friends say I have to be surgically separated from my money so you can see I need value for my dollars. First, if you are thinking of HDTV stuff and havent done the research heres a quick primer... Ya need a HDTV with tuner (not just a monitor type), look for one that does 1080p not just 1080i. For the price DLP gives much bigger screens BUT you MUST sit the right distance away (at least twice the TV diagonal size) so with this unit ya need to sit 12 feet away at a MINIMUM or you wont be happy with DLP. This model also has all the hookups you will need in your life, mainly you need HDMI for full 1080p. I bought Sony HDMI cables for about $30 since Im using a Sony PS3 as my Blu-Ray player (Ebay has them cheap). The PS3 is WAAAAYYY cheaper than any Blu-Ray player and ya get a top end game console too! So with those general parts (HDTV & PS3) all you need is true Blu-Ray DVDs and youre set for what only IMAX theaters can beat. We watched the Planet Earth series and it was truly IMAX like right in our own home. This TV is easy to set up, not too heavy (about 180 pounds compared to my 280 pound 36 CRT type TV) and has handles molded in to grab onto (a huge plus when moving it). Owners manual is simple and easy, plugging in a device is auto-sensed sort of like what USB devices do so its easy to assign a DVD player, game console, SAT dish receiver, etc. Can be up and running in minutes. This being DLP means its picture is BRIGHT, very bright and vibrant, great for normal daytime use without closing off windows, etc. It doesnt burn in like Plasma sets do and the viewing angle (if sitting proper 12 foot distance) is very very wide. Not quite as wide as LCD of course because with projection DLP there is that "sweet spot" thats needed for you to see the full screen brightness properly. This is very important to keep in mind, ya need 12 feet in front to view it properly!!! So overall this HDTV is the largest most homes could put in them at 6 feet wide and 12 feet sitting distance. The DLP just cant really be described for color, brightness, clarity, etc. but be aware that "old fashioned" TV signals at 480i, etc. will look somewhat pixilated or grainy due to the massive size of this TV. Its not too bad if seated 12 feet away but anything closer and you will notice its pixilated. There are lots of formats you can set on the TV to get the best picture out of the low 480i signals but this baby was made for full 1080p! If you ever been to an IMAX film that will give you an idea of what you are buying for your home and to say that PS3 games are just mind-blowing is an understatement. This TV when used as it should be (at 1080p or 720p at least) will leave you with your mouth open in shock. Dont expect 480i TV signals to be useful and you wont be disappointed, this TV is made for home theater use and serious movie watching/gaming at 1080p NOT just watching regular sit-coms at 480i. We have our old 36" CRT type TV for that stuff, this beast is for the "movie room". And at over $50-80 bucks to take our family to movies EACH time a new movie comes out it wont take but about 3 years to pay for itself! On: 2007-05-17
I looked at several different makes of DLP TVs. There are not many 73" tvs on the market and I needed a large screen for my theater. I decided this model gave the brightest and sharpest picture. Ordered from Amazon on a Wednesday, it was delivered the following Tuesday. Shipping was free, two guys came with the truck, they unloaded the TV which weighs 200 pounds, unpacked it, checked it for damage, carried it into my house and down the stairs into the basement theater and place it on the stand I had made for it. They then picked up all the packaging trash and hauled it away.
I just love the TV. I am very happy with it, Amazon service was awesome, and I saved around $1000.
Thank you Amazon.

Excellent TV with an abundance of input and output jacks. Excellent picture quality even better than my plasma set. Compact in size from earlier models (200 LBS vs 400 LBS for previous 65" model). The only thing that this set did not come with that my previous Mitsubishi set had was a PIP audio output. Really miss that feature but otherwise extremely satisfied with set. On: 2007-04-19
Ive had this TV for just over one month now and I am very pleased. I bought it through Amazon with free shipping. For the price paid you get the HUGE screen and fantastic picture quality.
I have the set hooked up to a Directv HD reciever with $9 HDMI cables (also purchased through Amazon) and the picture quality is as good as anything Ive seen at any store.
For the videophiles out there, this tv allows you to adjust the pictue settings in great detail. Standard definition channels look "okay" but not great. However, once you get used to the crisp high-def signal, standard def looks like total garbage on any set.
The tv runs very quiet and so far has performed flawlessly. Ive got around 12 feet distance from the couch to the screen and it looks fine. The picture looks great from much closer than that too. Id say if youve got at least 10 feet of space you should really look into this set.
My only gripe would be that the included speakers sound very weak. Theres no rich sound and almost no bass. Like me, Im certain that 99% of this TVs customers have it hooked up to a seperate sound system so that shouldnt be a major factor.
Amazons delivery and set up was flawless and as promised. At first I was worried about buying this TV online, but brick-n-mortars will just make you call Mitsu service technicians if something goes wrong, so theres really no drawback there. Mitsu covers the TV and the lamp for one year from date of purchase.
Bottom line, for the price paid you just cant beat this TV. Brick-n-mortars have this set for at LEAST $1,000 more. This TVs HUGE screen and bright, crisp picture quality make this one a winner. Ive heard it said many times, with High Def you want to get the BIGGEST screen your budget and room will allow. This TV fits the bill perfectly.
One last thing, make sure you get the matching stand. Its nothing fancy and a bit expensive but it really gives the TV a nice finished look.
IF you want all of the specs on this TV check out the Mitsubishi website. There you can download the instruction manual, see the physical specs, look at the warranty details, etc.
Overall I am VERY pleased with this purchase. On: 2006-11-12
I originally bought a Panasonic th58px60u plasma to hang on the wall, but it was heavy and we werent comfortable with that. For less money we went from a 58" to 73" screen and the PQ is great (up to 1080p). Especially for HD (both cable and now HD-DVD). SD channels leave something to be desired when blown up this big, but are acceptable. The problem is when you watch and get used to HD, nothing else is worth watching. True cable HD channels broadcasted (and recorded) at 720p look incredibly good.
Ive had no problems with the TV except sometimes when I first turn it on to watch cable, the screen is partially split. I just change the channel and come back and the problem goes away. This turned out to be a problem with my cable box and not the TV.
We also just bought the Toshiba A1 HD-DVD player, which will blow you away on this TV! Eventhough the player transmits 1080i signals, it doesnt matter. HD-DVDs are recorded in such a way that each relative frame is the same moment in time, so the whole odd/even issue of interlacing is a moot point. Ive played my regular Pearl Harbor DVD using this player to up-convert to 1080i and it looked like near HD quality. Cars (by Pixar) looked great! Some of my other DVDs do not look as good, but thats an issue with the dvd, not the player or TV.
I also like the fact that you can control other components through the TV. It has an easy-to-use setup screen to "learn" about other components connected to the set (it knows when somethings been connected). The reason I like this is because my other components are out of sight from the remote, but never the TV. So if Ive changed the input to DVD for example, the remote now acts as a DVD remote. If Im watching cable, the remote now acts as my cable remote, etc... Nice.
If youre watching SD stations, youll want to be back at least 10 feet, but if youre watching HD-DVD, you can be just a few feet away and it still looks good.
All my components are connected to the TV, and from the TV I run digital sound out to my receiver. Sound quality is very good as well, but like everything else, its also configurable.
We have a 12(W) x 24(L) room dedicated as a home theater. This set is the perfect size for that room.
