I felt compelled to review this and give it 5 stars seeing that its current rating is only 3 stars. The device is working flawlessly for me. You do need to be a little bit technical to be able to configure it properly. But this is more about knowing what settings your VOIP provider requires than the device itself.
I love it! On: 2008-09-12
If you are not familiar with Voip Technology, the pap2t can be a little hard to understand since it did not come with enough documentation.
Currently, I own 3 of them, they are pretty impressive, although require some tweaking in the setting in order to get the most out of your internet phone service.
The linksys website has a few documentation regarding the pap2, and how to make it work behind a router.
In addition, Online forum, such as: dsl report can be very helpful.
last but not the least, this is a great hardware...

Purchased this from Amazon and it works flawlessly with Gizmo5 and voipstunt voip services. I wish it had an option to switch between the 2 lines by pressing some special keys instead of connecting 2 phones to the 2 ports. On: 2008-09-06
I am an existing Vonage customer. I have been using their service for 2 years. Tried to move my existing phone numbers from my flaky old Linksys WRT54GP2 to the new PAP2T-NA VoiP adapter using the "Move a Line" website. (www.vonage.com/retail_subscribe/) NO LUCK. Error message is "Not a valid MAC address."
After a few hours with Vonage tech support on the other side of the planet the senior tech adviser confirmed that THIS DEVICE IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH VONAGE SERVICE. Wish someone had already written this review!
My suggestion is to try MagicJack, which seems to work flawlessly with my AT&T 3 Mbit service. On: 2008-08-19
Are you ready to jump into the exciting world of VOIP? Freedom and cost savings are there to be had, but be aware that this market is still in a developing stage, and if you are not a techie, you are strongly advised to not buy a product like this and simply sign up with a VOIP provider who will include the equipment as part of the package. This will insure you have the best support in case anything goes wrong.
If youre still reading, you should be nevertheless aware that the configuration screens for these type of devices are obscure and take a bit of a learning curve. There is a full manual in searchable PDF which you will likely need to refer to, but when you do, it is very good.
Now, after all that, if you need a dual line or dual channel VOIP ATA (analog telephone adapter), let me heartily state that this is your product. I own one and love it, and have read many reports from other satisfied users. What is a channel? Well in the wonderful world of VOIP, a channel is an active call. Many providers, when you pay for an incoming phone number (aka DID, or Direct Inward Dialing number), give you two or more channels. What does this mean? If you have two phones hooked up to this unit, but are only paying for one DID, if you are on one line, the other will automatically ring if someone calls you. Conversely, if someone is actively calling on one channel, you can pick up the line on the other channel and make a call. I have not yet personally tried this but I have been assured that such things are possible.
Your VOIP provider should be able to help you get it configured correctly. Linksys (they bought out Sipura, who is the de-facto standard for VOIP ATAs) is very well supported by most VOIP providers.
Note: if you only need one VOIP line and channel, I would recommend the Linksys 3102 instead. That model allows you to register to more than one VOIP gateway at a time, which allows you to configure your dial plan for the cheapest provider to whatever countries you call to most. On: 2008-08-10
Be very careful that you do not plug a different transformer into your phone adaptor. This is the only product I have ever owned that blew out, and became useless, from a different plug being placed in it. All others either worked anyway,or could be reset. If this was going to be a problem, this manufacturer should have made sure that only its plug fit the adaptor. Or at least allowed the unit to be easily reset. On: 2008-08-09
Excellent Product!!!! It is now outdated, so the price should reflect it, and it should be lower than $46.70. On: 2008-06-23
A very good product which is doing the job it was advertised to do. Some initial problems with setting up but once this hurdle was over work very well. Highly recommend this product. On: 2008-06-14
Worked perfectly first time, and every time. Audio quality first class. On-line Instructions were good. Very pleased with this purchase. On: 2008-05-29
I would give much higher reviews but it seems the support on this device is lacking from any corner of the earth. You cant upgrade the firmware except through OS less then Vista. It is a bear to configure and their is no configuration software - the company Cisco/Linksys sends you to chat on their site, which says it cant help. They then send you to India which says they cant help you after stumbling through scripts which they can not deviate from. They say go to the store which sold you the product. Hmmm... Amazon is going to help me configure Linksys Product for VOIP? Wow - Amazon must be really good - not. They send you to Voxilla which is the company that actually sold it to you.
Voxilla tells you to use their forums. If thats not helpful then use their help forum. If that is not helpful, and out of a last resort (paraphrasing their message), then leave a message and they will call you back. Its been quite some time now since I left a message. They have a configuration utility that is only a small part useful. So unless you are a technical genius or unless Linksys starts thinking its customers deserve some decent American help and assistance directly to their customers - avoid this company. On: 2008-05-27
Bought this to replace my previous VOIP LINKSYS PAP2 Ver 2. The previous one lasted 8 months before it died. Thought I would buy the same one even though the previous had a relativily short life span, it worked well. This time around I was not so lucky the MAC address was invalid. Called LINKSYS and they were not very helpful in helping me find a solution. . Also waited longer than 15 days so I could not return it. On: 2008-04-08
The adapter needs to be connected to a VoIP phone service and high speed internet in order to work. I have the phone service through my home based business and it works fine. Whats great about the adapter is that its portable. I can take it anywhere in the world and plug it into a a high speed internet router or modem, plug my phone into it, and it will ring when someone calls my home number. Whats even better is that I dont pay an arm and a leg for the service. This adapter is indeed the wave of the future. On: 2008-03-26
Comes with very simple instructions, plug in cables, adapter works ... or in my case doesnt - connects to power, connects to internet but doesnt do the one thing its supposed to do which is work as a phone adapter. Unfortunately I waited longer than the 15 days to return it so wasted $70.
