This is the best camera I have ever purchased. I love the huge screen on the back of the camera. When printed, the pictures come out very clear with great color. I would definitly recommend.
Built like a tank     On: 2007-12-10

I brought the camera as a gift for the wife (per her wishlist) so I didnt know anything about the cam when I brought it....but now that I have it for awhile I love it.
PROS:
-Built like a tank (ie. I accidentally drop it from about 5 feet and it landed on gravel with rocks). The camera now has a big dent on it but still works great.
-takes decent/normal video.
-I came from a 3.2 Mpixel camera from this so the pictures blew me away. I liked the picture quality that I now use it instead of my DSLR when I want good pictures during informal events.
-took the exilim on a tropical beach for vacation and the pictures that came out are beautiful. Turned me into a shutterbug during that trip...I was taking 100 to 300 shots per day...LOVE it!
CONS:
-make sure you have the cams cradle to charge the camera!
-flash sucks (but same goes to other point and shoot cameras) so, just try not to use the flash or just accept washout pics at night when using flash. Not a big issue for me!

Great Camera     On: 2007-11-27

i like this camera a lot. ive owned 3 other casio models (ex-m20, ex-s500, ex-s600), 1 samsung (nv10), and 1 canon (sd750) and i like this one the most. ill admit that its really easy to get a good shot with the samsung and the canon, so people might prefer them over the casios, but i feel like ive got a good enough understanding of the casio to get the results that i want. so in regards to picture taking, its really up to the user how well the images come out.

one reason i really enjoy this camera is the extent to which i can customize it to my liking. it really is only a few things, like a few customizable buttons and the ability to choose which settings the camera will remember. but the menu layout is very very intuitive to begin with, so the camera is very enjoyable to use apart from the customizing features. another minor (but great) feature is the adjustable flash intesity - really good for avoiding over-exposure in closer shots.

im big on videos and this camera is awesome for that! i dont understand what other reviewers are saying when they only say that the sound is "ok." i think the sound is pretty good (ive compared it with various other manufacturers and models). the only camera that is better in sound capture quality (in my opinion) is the canon sd750. but the only setting where the sd750 outshines the ex-s770 is when youre trying to record a video of a live concert. i discovered this cause my gf had the sd750 before i did. this is actually what made me purchase the sd750. however, 1 week into playing with the canon, i realized that the canon saves videos in a very large file format. so this is where the ex-s770 ends up being on top again. on a blank 2BG SD card, i was only able to get 16 minutes (640x480 @ 30fps) on the sd750 (seriously, WTF?!). but with the ex-s770 (same quality settings) i was able to get a little over 2 hours and i still considered the sound quality to be quite excellent.

another neat feature that shouldnt be weigh in too much in your decision - but still worth mentioning - is the data feature. it allows you to convert any type of data file and have it upload directly to your camera. i use it for train maps and schedules. again this isnt a big deal at all. if youve already got an a smartphone, you can already do that and prob even more. but still, its there if you want to use it.

ok, this is too long. but the above reasons are why i ended up choosing the casio exilim ex-s770.

Love the camera and it showed up within 2-3 days. The only problem is the battery was dead and have been waiting for over 3 weeks for a factory replacement.
Some flaws but still a great camera     On: 2007-08-28

Things I like:
Video quality is superb - unbelievable from such a little device. It is worth it for this feature alone. You can even take still pictures while filming a video.
Beautiful, sleek.
Big bright screen.

Things that are OK:
The picture quality. It is definitely not the best as others have mentioned. I have a 4MP pentax, now a few years old, that manages similar quality pictures. the Casio photos have a slightly soft fuzzy feeling, very noticible viewed on the screen at 100% but not much to worry about when viewed screen size or printed.

Things I dont like so much:
Cant do a one touch switch to picture taking mode from review mode. e.g. with my Pentax you are reviewing photos, see something you want to take a picture of and you tap the shutter release and you are back in action.
Doenst prompt before deletion of single photos. Have lost a couple of photos through this.
Cant recharge the battery separate from the camera. To recharge you have to dock the whole camera meaning you cant be charging a spare while still shooting. My pentax allowed the battery to slot into the cradle for separate charging through a clever but very simple recess in the charger - would be no additional expense to add.

about the picture quality     On: 2007-08-17

I really like this camera, and it takes great pictures. Some of the reviews complain about the picture quality. I think this is because the default setting of this camera is a very low one and you have to change it by yourself before taking pictures.... Hope this helps.
memory card locked     On: 2007-07-19

I recently purchased this camera. It takes great pictures;however, I turned it off one night and then when I turned it back on it said card locked. I can not get it to work now. I was wondering if anyone new how to fix that?
Good Looking, but Poor Pictures     On: 2007-07-11

I really want to like this camera. It looks great and is incredibly slim, but the picture quality is so poor I may just have to suck it up and buy another camera only 5 months after buying this one. I am not an expert photographer, but I have owned 2 other digital camera and this one takes by far the worst pictures. It is useless indoors or in the evenings. I have spent 6 months tweaking settings etc, but I cannot get this thing to take good pictures reliably. I would advise looking elsewhere for a camera.
2nd time buyer of this camera     On: 2007-07-10

My first camera was stolen just a few months after purchasing it, so I decided to re-buy the same camera because I loved it so much. It not only looks great, but the size is perfect yet still has a huge screen for clear image viewing. There are more options than I need or find myself using, but they are easy to access and play around with. I use a 2GB SD Memory card and on the highest image quality setting, can still fit several hundred pictures and video on the card. That brings up the video...the video quality is definitely not that of a digital camcorder, but I am very impressed with it. The sound isnt the best quality, but it serves its purpose. I highly recommend this camera!!
Very cute     On: 2007-07-05

Very cute and compact design. Good for ladies. Looks better and has more details than previous EX-660.
Pray to God yours doesn't break     On: 2007-06-30

NICE CAMERA BUT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

My camera stopped working, while under warranty.
I went to the website and after about an hour of searching, I finally figured out how to return the camera for service. You have to create an account, print out a mailing label,put the camera along with a copy of the receipt in a box and send it to New Jersey. They promise you to return a rebuit camera within 10 days.

We didnt hear back in a month. Luckily we sent it UPS and had all the tracking info. We called Casio and they found the camera by the tracking info. But, they lost the copy of the receipt and our address (which I dont see how that is possible as it was on the mailing label they had us print out). They told us to fax in the receipt and all of our contact info.

I faxed the receipt, and contact info, along with my email address. Then I got an email saying they didnt get the contact info and that I need to fax it. How could they send me an email if they didnt have my contact info. So, I recent everything.

Another month goes by and we hear nothing. I call again and wait no hold for 20 minutes. I get someone who says they cant find any info on us at all. I call again, wait another 20 minutes and get someone who finds the camera. They say we dont have a receipt. Then they say it is waiting for a supervisor. I ask to speak the supervisor, and they send me to his voicemail where I leave a message.

I dont hear anything and I call back the next day and ask to speak to the supervisor. They forward me to his voicemail, only I get a message that his voicemail is full and I cant leave a message. Apparently, many other people are also frustrated.

I call back and get someone who says they will personally go to the supervisor and get back with me in an hour. I dont hear anything and call the next day. I get someone who says that I should fax the receipt again, which I do. Lets see what happens next.

Otherwise it is a nice camera. It is slimmer than most. I like that, but my wife thinks it is too thin to be able to handle. It takes very nice shots.

Unlike what others have said, I think it take pretty good night time pictures. It is better than many other cameras I have seen. Most of the compact digital cameras just dont take excellent night shots. Much has to do with the limited range of the flash, and this Casio is better than most.

ONE DAY I HOPE TO USE THIS CAMERA AGAIN.
Great camera     On: 2007-06-15

Overall, its a great camera, quite small, works very well and is easy to learn and use. Battery pack lasts a good long time.

On the downside, its possible a camera can be TOO small. The buttons are quite small, which can be an issue for larger hands. Also doesnt have a lot of high end/manual features, so if youre looking for a lot of SLR-like features, this is more of a point and shoot.
I love it...     On: 2007-06-14

Im not sure what several other people were talking about, I have had no problems in low-light areas, including weddings, restaurants etc. It is a great camera easy to take pictures with and I have great pictures when I print them out. I love it.
GREAT CAMERA     On: 2007-06-14

This is an excellent digital camera. Its pretty much the thinnest one on the market right now. I took it to Hawaii and many other places and have had hundreds of perfect shots so far. Not a single technical problem with it, the battery lasts all through the day of turning it off and on and its very easy to use. The screen is huge; it does not have a viewfinder if youre into having one. Takes nice video clips as well and I love the red color of mine.
Disappointing     On: 2007-06-12

My husband gave me this camera as a gift and "upgrade" to my Nikon Coolpix 3100, which Ive had a couple of years and which has been through a lot, including being dropped, but which still works fine.

I followed the instructions for charging the battery and then took a few test photos. Even with the macro setting selected, the camera cannot take close-up photos with any clarity--this camera will be useless to you if you want to take photos of small items to sell on eBay, or if you like to take photos of flowers, or anything else close-up, which is something I like to do.

I turned the camera off after taking about seven photos and went to bed. When I woke up the next morning I wanted to see how the camera did outside. When I turned the camera on, the view screen did not light up, but I thought I might have touched some energy-saving button by mistake. The camera is SO small that I had trouble holding it without touching buttons, and had trouble touching the buttons I wanted to touch because the wrist strap is so short.

Anyway, I took several photos of my two kittens, who were climbing a tree. The flash went off each time I took a photo, so I assumed that pictures were being taken, even though I saw nothing on the view screen.

When I uploaded the photos to my computer, they were blank, dark brown rectangles.

The camera manual [which is on CD] did not have any troubleshooting item that matched the problem I was having. When I examined the view screen under very bright light, I could see the menu very faintly, and a message saying "Underexposed." My husband and I could not get the view screen to come back, so we had to return the camera.

I dont know if this is poor quality control or what, but the camera essentially broke the second time I tried to use it. Even if it hadnt conked out, I still would have been disappointed with the hard-to-grip style of the camera and small buttons, small wrist trap, and terrible close-up lens. I never got to test outdoor snapshots, so I cant say anything about the quality of them, but others have mentioned that regular photos turn out blurry around the edges. Do not waste your money on this camera.
Perfect camera for users who want a smiple, classy camera     On: 2007-06-08

I recently just took a college trip across Europe and brought this camera. I used it in low light settings, with the flash off in museums, out the window on a bus tour, at night, in the day time, while walking.. anything you can thing of I did. It worked out perfectly. I thought that the picture quality was amazing and it is extremely simple to use. If you want a small compact flashy camera where you do not have to constantly adjust the settings, this is the perfect camera.

I do not have much experience with camera knowledge, but the picture quality to me seemed perfect. I do not use it for making pictures large, but just to have my own personal pictures and send to others, as well as print out 3x5s.

I actually dropped my camera off of a cliff, climbed down to get my memory card (of course the camera was broken) and I just bought the exact same one today.) I love it!!

No complaints on this one!
You Get What You Pay For     On: 2007-06-07

This is my second Casio camera I have purchased. I previously had the EX s700 and my girlfriend destroyed it in her bag with hair products. I am 100% completely satisfied with this item. I am a tech person so buying this camera I knew had to meet my standards and it did. The pixel count is incredible in bright light the quality easily rivaled those of more expensive cameras. Low light situations posed no problem. The flash was bright in the dark and shed light on the subject with even distribution. The movie quality proves easily that one does not need a seperate camcorder. I easily recommend this camera and the s700 for everyday practical use and the outcome is professional looking or should I say professional quality pictures.Casio Exilim EX-S770RD 7.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Red)
worked great until it broke:(     On: 2007-06-01

I loved my Camera until it broke within the first year! Something to do with the Optical Zoom and casio would not replace it for me- even though i bought the extended warrenty....that made me extremely mad! So if you get this camera i would say an accessory must have would be a travelers case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disappointing Photo Quality     On: 2007-05-17

I bought this camera because I had a great experience with my prior Casio, the EXP-700. That camera is still around and Ive now gone back to it. Heres why: In spite of its very nice features, ease of use and compactness, the EX-S770 simply does not take good images. My guess is the tiny lens just cant do what it needs to. I have a fair amount of experience with digital cameras and this one has the worse image quality of any Ive owned or used. Its very disappointing. I thought this would be the perfect camera to carry around in my pocket to take spontaneous pictures of whatever. That idea is out the window. Back to the old drawing board.
Casio Exilim EX-S770 7.2MP Digital Camera     On: 2007-05-13

Previously had Exilim Z-60 which was excellent - I gave that to a daughter to take to University and got this one which is slightly bigger. The 2.8" widescreen is very nice, the icons that run down the side is great. While the menu on the Z-60 was good, the menu on this is much better.

I use this in work in mills to take pictures of our equipment. Limited use of this one so far.

For portability this is great. I also have a canon G5 (larger) and Canon Rebel XT with ~7 lenses. This one is certainly much easier to take with me and always travels with me.

Ill also review the Casio case.
Great camera!     On: 2007-05-12

Camera is sleek, small and easy to carry around. Takes quick pictures and they are great quality. Would definitely recommend this camera!
Works nice and is easy/light to carry around
by: imuilu143    On: 2007-04-27

I bought this for my wife so she could pull out the camera, turn it on, and take a nice photo. Flash works well, unlike some reviews Ive read. Battery life appears to be fine also. This is a small, light camera, measuring 3 1/2" wide, 2 1/4 " tall, and 3/4" deep when turned off. Not exactly a credit card, but likely as close to one as youre gonna get. Camera opens up instantly, takes a nice photo whether with or without flash, battery life appears OK, and controls are easy to use--either in figuring them out or using your fingers on them. Nice big screen 2 1/4 by 1 1/2, so you can easily see whats going on--a nice plus. This camera also has a nice "reminder" listing on the right of the display, so you can see flash setting (on, off, etc.), ISO setting for those of you that use that, and VERY NICE way to access the other controls shown for the auto focus, self-timer, antishake, ISO sensitivity, white background (am I losing you yet?), and so on. One point to remember is that this listing is arranged from most-likely-to-use to least-likely, so the user interface has been a strong consideration in the design of this camera.

Ive gotten some nice pictures with this, with and without flash. A nice pick.

Why not 5 stars? cuz Ive also bought a more expensive digital camera that gives me more choices, although for the price this camera is fine and itd be one Id buy again, but it isnt the equal of dig cams with 6x optical zooms, separate ISO settings, and all those other techie things that, frankly, arent that important to a lot of users but which do need to be considered in a rating.

Do buy a carrying case, as I have done, so the camera doesnt get scratched or lost cuz itz so small. I dont have any "special fear" about this but its also easy to buy a small carrying case to stash this into, so why not do it?

As in all my reviews, I have no financial interest one way or the other in what I review.

Also, dont forget you are likely to want a bigger memory card to store pix, and maybe a second battery to swap out when needed. Consider these additional costs, but also consider these additional costs apply to any camera you buy.
worst experience ever     On: 2007-04-14

now i know that you should never bye elctronic things online. i bought an expensive camera, after 3 days it didnt work without any outer influence. i tried to contact the seller, but they didnt react at all. there was only an email adress, nobody responded. i didnt even have an adress from ANTonline. then i asked amazone about the adress to send the defective camera back, they didnt give it to me. i didt get an replacement or a refund. i will never do that again, nobody was reachable or helped me.
Great Camera     On: 2007-04-05

I enjoy this camera and I carry it in my pocket wherever I go. It takes great pictures and videos.

The only problem I have is that it is hard to turn on and off with big fingers.
Terrible quality - don't buy     On: 2007-03-30

I purchased 2 of these cameras and both of them came with a USB charging cradle that would not work. This is terrible, terrible quality control and I will never trust another casio product.
a stylish camera with above average power     On: 2007-03-30

I got this camera a month ago for my birthday. When i opened it up i was astounded. The camera is tiny and extremely thin, yet it has a giant bright screen on the back. Im an artist and i like to have my camera at all times, making this one perfect since it fits in my pocket along with many other things. There are many pros and few cons. First off in other reviews people said the flash was week and sound playback quiet. These are both completely false, both are outstanding to what i have seen in other cameras.

Feature wise its decent. It has a lot of good themes for taking pictures of certain things, and its extremely comprehensive. Changing simple settings like flash on/off and macro mode are extremely good and easily visible on screen. The one quible i would have is the lack of extra specific adjustments for getting the picture just right. If your not a big time photographer the features are by far enough.

Now for picture quality etc. First off this camera has a rediculous number of pixels for its size. This is both good and bad. Lots of pixels means lots of detail, and with the right lighting this camera can get some very crisp shots. However in low lighting pictures can be blurry and if you blow up the pictures big enough you can see little bloches of color. For the most part this is no problem especially if you are proficient in photoshop. Video recording is excellent the quality can completely replace your video camera (aside from the zoom). Which reminds me, zoom isnt great, but theres so much detail in the photo that you can just crop it down and it looks just as good.

In conclusion this camera accomplishes all of the following- wow your friends, fits anywhere, easy to use, takes good big pictures, takes great video, and is generaly a great deal
Exilim EX-S770
by: Anonymous    On: 2007-03-14

Great pictures for such a small camera.I recommend this for the intermediate user who has some knowledge of depth of field and contrast as this will not replace an SLR type camera for the pro.As small as a package of cigarettes and for that matter easy to lose as sometimes you forget its in your pocket.
My wife loves this camera for its easy to use features and portability.The Red will do as I could not find this model in the fiesta orange.A neat little camera.Love it.
Overall- Great Camera for Price     On: 2007-03-08

The Casio Exilim EX-S770RD is a great camera for the price. Camera is the smallest on the market and will fit in any pocket. LCD Sreen is large and very clear. 7.2 MP produces great picture quality and the functions are easily accessed. As this is my first Casio purchase, I am very pleased with the quality.
Great camera for point and shoot     On: 2007-03-07

This camera is pretty fast and is small enough to be kept in your pocket to be used if a photo opportunity occurs. It also offers wide screen modes for taking videos (704x384) in addition to an excellent standard resolution (640x480).

My one concern was it looked like all the pictures I took were blurry in the review screen on the back of the camera; after I take a shot, the image appears for a few seconds for review and then goes back to capture mode- and all of the review shots looked out of focus. I uploaded the images to my computer and they looked fine. I also went back to the camera and put it in play mode and they also looked great- so I think that the scaling of the review image (from 7.2MP t0 230K) after taking a picture is to blame for this; and (perhaps) will be fixed with a future firmware update.

All in all, this is a great camera. I keep it with me as much as possible and it has given me some awesome pictures.

A Mixed Bag of "Goods"...     On: 2007-02-27

I bought this camera as a Valentines Day gift for my wife. I chose this particular model not because of the slimness, or the flashy red color (although both factors were considered as well), but mainly because of all the positive reviews Ive read about it, and also the fact that Im familiar with Casio cameras in general, and I consider myself somewhat of a fan. Ive owned 4 other models prior to purchasing this one, namely Z60, Z600, Z850, and P700, and all of them were good cameras, with some advantages and disadvantages, just like any other product on the market today. This one, however, turned out to be somewhat of an unpleasant surprise, especially since it was a present for a special occasion. But before I get to the actual explanation as to why I didnt like this camera, I feel that I need to mention a few things first. As you might already know from my previous reviews, Im not a complete newbie to the world of digital of photography - I used to work for Kodak, doing hands-on professional digital cameras testing. Its been about a decade now, but I didnt loose all that knowledge that I got from that place, and in fact only gained more in that department over the years, since digital photography is sort of my hobby now. So I do know a thing or two about apertures, shutter speeds, sensitivity, and ... yes, Picture Quality. But Im not going to "torture" you any longer, so here is why I think this camera is overrated, and why I cant really recommend it to other people. Good things first though:

PROS:
- Its by far the best looking camera that I have ever seen. Its slim. Very slim to be exact. Its aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The red color is also nice - one of the reasons I chose it for Valentines Day - it went great with the bouquet of red roses that I also picked up for my wife;

- This camera is extremely Easy to Use. The menus are very intuitive, and the Panel navigation mode is great. A bunch of preprogrammed Best Shots is also a big plus, especially for someone who wants a simple point and shoot type of camera, and doesnt want to be overwhelmed with manual controls;

- Big, bright LCD (also see Cons);

- MPEG-4 Movie Mode is excellent. First, it saves a lot of space, comparing to the regular .AVI format, and also can be used in 16:9 format, which is designed for widescreen TVs;

- I was very impressed to find out that this camera can actually be used for storing and viewing Data. Regular text, Word documents, e-mail attachments - it can all be converted to the camera supported format with the supplied software, and then be viewed on the display.

Now, the Bad things:

CONS:
- Slimness comes at a price - sometimes its hard to press the right button, even if you dont have large fingers, so be prepared for some frustration;

- One of the reasons I chose this camera was its Best Shot modes, eBay one in particular. My wife occasionally sells stuff on eBay, and always wanted to have an easy way of posting pictures. What eBay mode does is it allows to take a picture of an object up-close, and then automatically compresses it to the allowed by eBay size. Very simple. Whats not so simple, however, is taking that shot. Its very hard to focus in eBay mode, and in Macro mode for that matter. Z60, Z600, and Z850 all had eBay mode, but none of them had this problem. Only later I found out (its not been hugely advertised) that the closest range for Macro mode on S770 is 15 cm (centimeters that is), comparing to 10 cm on the other cameras that I mentioned. Thats quite a bit of difference actually. But even at that distance its very hard to take a sharp picture of an item. Forget it if you want a nice picture of a ring, or any other jewelry piece. The camera has to be properly focused, and unfortunately its not that great at doing it up-close;

- Yes, the LCD (display) is big and bright. However, its pretty much useless in low light conditions. It becomes grainy, and its very hard to use for taking a picture. Thats where youll miss a viewfinder! Its also not very good if you want to judge whether the shot was good or not by looking at the display. What looks good on it might not look so good after you transfer the image to your computer, and vice versa;

- Battery Life is not as good comparing to other Casio models that Ive had. Z600, and Z850s batteries seemed like they lasted forever. S770, on the other hand, is not even close. Dont get me wrong, its not that bad, but I guess I just got spoiled. Whats also of inconvenience is that you have to use USB cradle in order to charge the battery - its not the most efficient way, and you also have to very careful not to scratch the paint on the camera;

- Weak Flash. Did I say weak? I meant pathetic. Its practically useless. If the object that you are shooting is located beyond approximately 4-5 feet, forget about using the flash - you wont gain anything - might as well just turn it off, or cover it with you finger;

- Image Quality is average at best, and Im been modest here. Once again, because the camera is so slim, the sensor size is very small. What do you get when you have a small sensor? - Poor picture quality. On a bright, sunny day, its actually not that bad. But indoors, or in low light situations, you will get blurry, grainy pictures, and will have to spend hours fixing it with editing software.

CONCLUSION:
I wish I spent more time reading reviews about this camera before I bought it. If I did, I wouldve noticed that all the ones that are praising it, have to do with the fact that its small, good looking, and easy to use. The very few mention picture quality at all, and the ones that actually do, say that its not very good. So, to summarize, if all youre looking for in a camera is how appealing it looks, and how easy it is to use, then this is the right camera for you. However, if picture quality is important to you (and I would imagine it is, because otherwise whats the point of buying the camera in the first place), then I would suggest you look elsewhere. Check out other Casio models - they might be not as compact or pretty as this one, but they certainly deliver in areas where this one fails. I actually chose a completely different route - I went with Panasonic DMC-LX2 (look for my review shortly). Its definitely not your typical point and shoot type of camera, but rather intended for someone who wants manual control, and who wants to learn more about digital photography in general, as well as post processing aspect of it, since it also allows you to shoot in RAW. In any case... as always, all of my commentaries are not intended to be taken word for word, but rather help you in your camera purchasing decisions. Good luck.

- Big, bright LCD (also see Cons);

- MPEG-4 Movie Mode is excellent. First, it saves a lot of space, comparing to the regular .AVI format, and also can be used in 16:9 format, which is designed for widescreen TVs;

- I was very impressed to find out that this camera can actually be used for storing and viewing Data. Regular text, Word documents, e-mail attachments - it can all be converted to the camera supported format with the supplied software, and then be viewed on the display.

Now, the Bad things:

CONS:
- Slimness comes at a price - sometimes its hard to press the right button, even if you dont have large fingers, so be prepared for some frustration;

- One of the reasons I chose this camera was its Best Shot modes, eBay one in particular. My wife occasionally sells stuff on eBay, and always wanted to have an easy way of posting pictures. What eBay mode does is it allows to take a picture of an object up-close, and then automatically compresses it to the allowed by eBay size. Very simple. Whats not so simple, however, is taking that shot. Its very hard to focus in eBay mode, and in Macro mode for that matter. Z60, Z600, and Z850 all had eBay mode, but none of them had this problem. Only later I found out (its not been hugely advertised) that the closest range for Macro mode on S770 is 15 cm (centimeters that is), comparing to 10 cm on the other cameras that I mentioned. Thats quite a bit of difference actually. But even at that distance its very hard to take a sharp picture of an item. Forget it if you want a nice picture of a ring, or any other jewelry piece. The camera has to be properly focused, and unfortunately its not that great at doing it up-close;

- Yes, the LCD (display) is big and bright. However, its pretty much useless in low light conditions. It becomes grainy, and its very hard to use for taking a picture. Thats where youll miss a viewfinder! Its also not very good if you want to judge whether the shot was good or not by looking at the display. What looks good on it might not look so good after you transfer the image to your computer, and vice versa;

- Battery Life is not as good comparing to other Casio models that Ive had. Z600, and Z850s batteries seemed like they lasted forever. S770, on the other hand, is not even close. Dont get me wrong, its not that bad, but I guess I just got spoiled. Whats also of inconvenience is that you have to use USB cradle in order to charge the battery - its not the most efficient way, and you also have to very careful not to scratch the paint on the camera;

- Weak Flash. Did I say weak? I meant pathetic. Its practically useless. If the object that you are shooting is located beyond approximately 4-5 feet, forget about using the flash - you wont gain anything - might as well just turn it off, or cover it with you finger;

Good luck.
Eazy Squeezy     On: 2007-02-25

I love this camera. It has been so easy to use and there are so many accessories for it. I got it for a great price so it was definitely worth the money. I have two other Fuji cameras and a Pentax that have been great but this has been the easiest to travel with by far and the pictures come out awesome. It is small, light weight, easy to use and set, and an I-pod screen protector fits it perfectly.
Best Shot modes not all there     On: 2007-01-26

Ive had this camera not long but just from the start i noticed that it doesnt have all 35 Best Shot modes like the Exilim EX-Z850 or 750. Thats what i noticed right off the bat. But i will keep it only b/c i LOVE the red and the thinness. It takes nice pics and is VERY easy to use. I would recommend it for a quick snapshot camera.
Love This Camera     On: 2007-01-19

I purchased this camera as a gift for my wife. We had another digital camera but it was so big and bulky that we found we never carried it with us. This camera is so slim it fits into a shirt pocket and you hardly know its there. We absolutly love it. The pictures are very clear and it is easy to chose different settings to fit every situuation.

There are two problems I find that keep this camera from being the greatest thing since sliced bread. First, it does not have a USB port on the camera. To get pictures to the computer you must use the docking station which is connected via USB or have a card reader to read the flash memory card. Second, if you dont have a flash momory card in the camera you can only store two pictures at the highest resolution.

We love this camera!
Great Digital Camera     On: 2007-01-19

I love this camera! It is very easy to use- the buttons are nicely placed, which I found helpful as I took it skiing- gloves didnt get in the way of using it. The pictures are great and the camera itself is so small and compact.
Casio Exilim EX-S770 7.2MP Digital Camera     On: 2007-01-19

Great camera! Its the smallest 7.2MP on the market. Its smaller than my wallet, I can carry it with me all the time, I get to use it a lot more. Its a fun camera, the picture quality is good. Unless you are a professional and take action shots or need a lot more zoom, this camera will serve every purpose. The size, again, is a major advantage, you dont have to walk around with a camera bag, so you dont look like a tourist, and can have it with you all the time.
Shipping was quick, and the goods were in excellent condition.
Love it!     On: 2007-01-12

I was sitting all the way on the other side of a ferry as someone was shooting pictures of the shore and I could see the image on his view screen. I was blown away because I was used to my Canon S30s tiny little screen. I asked the guy what model it was and as soon as I got home I looked it up. Based on everything I read, it was the perfect camera for me. I put it on my Xmas list when my Canon broke. It takes great picrures and is very easy to use. Amazon offered a free 1G card and that is more than enough. If youre a point & shoot photographer and you like taking your camera EVERYWHERE, youll love this one or any of the Casio Exilims.
Very nice camera! Compact and easy to use.     On: 2007-01-10

We purchased a new camera about a month before we went on vacation so we would have time to get used to it before we left. We could have bought it the DAY we left, it is so user friendly! The menus are easy to navigate, and set up is a breeze. We chose this camera based on 1. anti-shake 2. Size & overall ease of use 3. Screen size. 4. location and ease of pushing function buttons on camera (husbands man-sized fingers & my small fingers) 5. Bestshot features and video ability. This is the first camera we have owned without an optical viewfinder - we dont miss it. The screen is clear and bright, easy to see in sunshine. Before purchasing this camera, we also considered a couple of Canon models. Only thing that would make this camera more perfect would be a bit more zoom, but you cant have everything I guess. Love the red color, too.

Pictures from the vacation and subsequent shots have turned out amazing! We are very happy with the results. Battery life was terrific also. Some would recommend having an additional battery just in case, but we dont and didnt need one while the camera got heavy use on vacation (700+ pictures and video taken over 8 days). Just recharge in the dock at night, ready to go the next day. Very easy to slip in a purse or pocket, but not too lightweight for good "hand feel".

After the trip, my father couldnt stop talking about the camera to his friends. Infact, it impressed us and him so much, we bought one for Dad for Christmas, in a different color of course. We highly recommend this camera! A great value for the price!
Great, easy to use camera!     On: 2007-01-10

This camera was given to me, Sue as a Christmas gift and I love it. We have another larger digital camera but this is the perfect size for taking along everywhere. Im not a real "Tech" person but even I was able to figure out how to use its functions. The only thing that Id suggest is including a memory card because you want to start playing with it right away and you cant.
This is a great pocket camera     On: 2007-01-09

I love this camera. Besides being extremely competent as a point and shoot camera, the size seals the deal. It can easily slide into almost any pocket.
The camera has various Best Shot modes to add dramatic effect to your photos.
The video is adequate but not great.
My main complaint is that to charge the camera you must take the docking station. That is just one extra thing to haul on a trip.
Works with my iMac with no extra software for photos. I had to install an included program to view the video however.
Perfect!     On: 2007-01-09

The camera is really slim... perfect for me that want to carry it every wear..Also the resolution is cool and the pics are always focus. The problem is that the red eye flash seems not to work every time.. But i guess it happens with all cameras.
My comparison to the older model, the EX-S3     On: 2007-01-09

To be honest, I havent used the camera a ton, but heres what I can tell you about it, compared with the older non-zoom model (I had the EX-S3).

The interface is pretty similar, and easy to work with. There are of course more bells and whistles, but at the end of the day, its the same.

The optical zoom is nice (the S3 didnt even have one), but it comes at a price of additional thickness. Granted, this camera is still very thin, but it is definitely noticeably bigger than its predecessor.

The flash is actually very powerful...maybe too powerful. I found that when someone is close up to the flash, say indoors, they become white as a ghost. Sometimes Ill cover the flash a little with my finger to balance it out.

The screen is very big and bright - thats a plus. Battery life is decent. Pictures come out good as well.

Thats about it. To conclude, I wish they couldve added the zoom while still keeping the camera ultra thin. Still, its not too bad and fits in my pocket, which is actually my biggest concern.

Great little camera     On: 2007-01-09

This camera is a true pleasure; it exceeds expectations in every category. The images are sharp; their size is adequate for almost every application (Ive blown them up to 30x30"); its viewing area is large and bright; the controls are simple and easy to master but what really makes it stand out from the crowd of shirt-pocket cameras is its speed. Nothing is more aggravating than pressing the shutter only to helplessly watch the scene change while your camera delays taking the picture. The speed of S770 is unmatched by any other point and shoot camera Ive tested. For the price and the kind of camera it is, the S770 is unrivaled in my estimate.
Good, until it burns by itself     On: 2006-12-14

I had this camera for about a month before I unplugged the dock (which the camera was sitting in) from my computer and the cameras LCD screen instantly cracked and burnt a giant hole in the middle making it all unusable. I sent the camera for repair but the lady who talked to me said that they thought it was my fault, that I had caused damage to the screen by putting pressure on it. The truth is, I did not touch the camera until a minute after it destroyed the screen. Theyre not putting the repair under warranty even though the camera is new and I did NOT damage the camera!!

Other than that, the movie function is beautiful, amazing even. Battery life is superb. Screen brightness is amazing. The camera does take a tiny bit of a lag when shooting photos, unlike the Exilim I had before. Its tiny, stylish, and picture quality can be beautiful.
Awesome mini digi cam     On: 2006-11-29

I bought this camera because it was the smallest cam for the price on the market. It was worth every penny! The LCD is amazing. I bought some Palm Univseral Screen protectors just to make sure I keep it nice and clean because its going to be spending a lot of time in my pocket. The menus are perfect, everything made perfect sense. The button layout is perfect as well. Pictures come out really good, I did have to adjust some settings to get the best quality. I wouldnt say that these are the best pictures ive ever seen, but they get the job done. The video mode on this camera is also pretty nice. I almost find myself taking more videos than pictures. This camera is packed full of features, you can even use it as a document/data viewer. I bought a high speed 2gb Sd card and threw it in without an problems. Basically, if you want an ultra slim stylish camera, this is the one to get!
Lukewarm review     On: 2006-11-15

The EX-s770 has a lot going for it. Its size and weight make it a great pocket camera. It starts up very quickly and has a very short lag time between pressing the shutter button and taking the pic. The screen is beautiful and clear, and the menu navigation is very intuitive. I can make adjustments to white balance, flash, and ISO without having to fumble around with a bunch of different buttons. Its stylish and sturdy. The video recording feature is easy to use too. So many good things....except the picture quality. Because this camera is so small, they need to use a lens the size of a pinhead. And so there is horrible barrel distortion and (much to my dismay) significant blurring in the corners of the pictures, especially in wide-angle shots. And on top of all that, the noise on low-light shots is downright nasty. I realize this camera is not a top-of-the-line SLR, but after being dazzled by how great the camera looks and operates, the quality of the pictures really broke my heart. I feel like I have a brand new sports car, and every time I put it into gear and press the accelerator, it stalls.

Think of this camera as the digital version of the Kodak Instamatic from the 1970s. A small, fun, pocketsized camera. Only now it costs $300
Good overall but indoor shots are poor     On: 2006-10-30

This is my third digital camera and I wanted one for travel and for special occasions. This camera looked very sharp and seemed to have the same qualities as the well rated Z600. Overall, I like the camera but really found the indoor shots to be very poor quality. Here are some other specific findings:
Pros
1. Can set things up to memorize your settings
2. soft flash good feature
3. Bright display
4. Outdoor shots are excellent
5. Best shot modes
6. Easy access to exposure compensation
7. Navigation is easy
8. Steel body
Cons
1. Indoor shots (e.g. in a restaurant with low lights) turn out very coarse.
2. Slim profile makes it very hard to stabilize the camera.
3. Battery is very hard to take out if you happen to put it in the wrong way.
4. Hand strap is very small. A bigger person cannot operate the camera comfortably with it. Had to use one from an old Nikon camera.
5. Red camera paint can easily scratch off just by loading it onto the dock.
6. Sound is very soft

I also bought an extra battery, 2 gb sd card and an Exilim leather case from Amazon. The first 2 are good buys. The black horizon Exilim leather case however has a very flimpsy snap. If you carry the camera on your belt, expect the camera to fall out. Wish they had a better design on the snap.
Best ultracompact camera on the market     On: 2006-10-05

I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago for a trip to Vegas. I also have a Canon S30 that I feel is just too much of a brick to carry, plus the capture lag is very frustrating. I looked at most of the sub compact models on the market and was really impressed with the features and more importantly the size of the Casio EX-S600 that a friend of mine has (I wanted something I could put in my pocket and not know its there). I liked the similar size of some of the Sony models, but wanted an SD card camera (not a Sony proprietary model). I was ready to buy the S600 but was then tipped off to the new release of the 770.
By no means am I a digital photography aficionado so I cannot talk about the manual adjust capabilities of the 770. But I can tell the difference between a good picture and a bad picture and I have to say the picture quality in Best Shot mode is great. Theres little thought involved - just point and shoot and the shot is nearly instantaneous (the lag was a concern of mine). Colors are crisp and flash lighting is good. The large wide screen on the back is great (way better than any of the other sub compacts I considered). The battery life is also very impressive.

Pros:
-ultra small and light form factor
-super quick startup
-practically no lag on shot taking
-awesome large widescreen LCD
-fast 3x optical zoom (plus 7MP means digital zooming is finally really practical)
-great battery life
-SD card storage
-great widescreen MPEG4 video w/ dedicated button

Cons:
-almost too small to handle (I recommend egrips or equivalent grip tape for handling)
-zoom buttons could be easier to navigate
-screen susceptible to scratching (I recommend a screen protector)
-picture is a bit grainy in really low light
-sound recording just OK
-wrist tether that comes with unit too short

Overall I highly recommend this camera.
Great point and shoot     On: 2006-10-04

Bought this last week for a trip from California to New York City, and I wasnt disappointed with the picture quality of this camera. Remember: this isnt a professional camera, and many manual options like Aperature Priority and Shutter Speed arent available to manually set. Using the "Best Shot" modes can change this (Fireworks, Night Scene, etc...), and increase the exposure time, but the camera decides what is "Best" for the shot.

A definite plus is the MPEG-4 codec for the video which increases video recording time significantly in comparison to similarly priced and targeted Canon cameras that use MPEG-2. When compared to the video from the Canon Powershot S2 IS (Which I also own) the video quality stacks up well. The audio is only OK, but Im spoiled by the stereo recording of the S2 IS. There is a dedicated "Record" button right next to your thumb on the right side of the back panel which lets you record videos with one touch (rather than having to change to a different mode, and possibly miss your shot)

All in all, I was pretty impressed with the quality and the ease of use. There are many features, 32 "Best Shot" modes, decent operation time (the camera doesnt really lag very much at all).

The only con is while the screen is VERY good - high resolution, crystal clear and more than bright enough to see on sunny days - the hard plastic coating did scratch pretty easily. I ordered a screen protector on ebay for this reason, and Ill treat it with kid gloves until it arrives.
