iPod earphones     On: 2008-06-29

I was happy when I first got my earphones, but have been slightly dissatisfied with them. They work and all, but thereve been a few defects. On the earphones themselves have an L and R for each ear ... but this has rubbed off quite quickly to where theyve already disappeared. Also, on my left earphone, the top popped OFF, so i had to use gorilla glue to put it back on and make it stay there. Otherwise, I am happy that I got iPod earphones from the non-apple company for A LOT cheaper.

Oh my Gawd! Can these things tangle up anymore?     On: 2008-06-24

I dont have an issue with the way the headphones sound, or fit in my ear. As far as earphones go theyre pretty standard, so I dont have high expectations.

However, every time I wrap them around my iPod case, bundle them and set them aside, they become the most tangled mess Ive ever had to deal with. Im constantly untangling the dang things. What is that about? And they tangle up in ways I didnt know possible - loops, twists; Im using fingernails to unravel them.

This is the pair that came with my iPod touch. I have since purchased another brand.

The worst headphones I've ever owned     On: 2008-06-04

These headphones hurt my ears every time I used them. The sound quality is very poor and they break easily. I had these for maybe 2 months before they broke and many people I know said that they had the same problem. Some broke within 3 weeks. NEVER BUY THESE HEADPHONES.
Lousy, lousy and lousy     On: 2008-06-03

I agree with all the other reviewers here who say these headphones are the worst thing to come down the pike to accompany the neatest product ever invented. From the minute I used these headphones, they gave me massive earaches. Theyre way too big for my ears and the supposed rubber gasket around them helped not one bit. I subsequently bought a pair of Skullcandy headphones (which I also reviewed) and stuck these back in the box they came in. My Skullcandy phones broke recently, so now Im back to these and the earaches, when Im not picking up one side or the other because it has fallen out of my ear. They dont fit, period.

There should be a photo of these in any dictionary listing of "lousy product design." Ive been a huge fan of Apples products forever, but it irritates me that these headphones were included with a device costing $300. If thats not an affront to Apples consumers, then I dont know what is.
Work good but last 1 month     On: 2008-06-02

when i got the ear phone the sound was perfect and it continued to be perfect for a month. But when its one month anniversary came the ear phone took a new turn into pulling completely apart. When i looked at the wire when it was broken ...it looked dirty like its was glued was old. I really believe the seller prolly had these ear phones for more then 5 years. Make sure check if its new
sound is good but hardware sucks     On: 2008-05-28

the sound quality is good but it wont last as a single piece for too long. poor make.
Good product!     On: 2008-04-25

Perfect for my ipod! My son broke my original ipod headphones and I had to get some new ones. These are great! Sound is good, couldnt ask for me!
useless after only 2 weeks     On: 2008-04-06

They were extremely uncomfortable and kept falling out of my ears since I first used them; less than 2 weeks later, they started producing huge static. In the trash they went.... Shame on apple!
Real Nice sound!     On: 2008-03-05

Since Im in a college, Im very tight on my budget and didnt want to spend more than $30 on the headphone. Ive tried many types of headphone/earphones around that price range and I can say this one is my absolute favorite among the ones Ive tried.
Won't last that long     On: 2008-03-03

These earbuds are great but over time the top part of it came off, rendering one of them useless, so I was kind of mad. They didnt last that long. If you buy an iPod, use the earbuds that it came with, but if they break, dont buy another pair of these.
These rock your ears!     On: 2008-03-03

These headphones are great! My hubby has a 1st generation Nano and he was blown away by the difference in quality.
Haizanski is stupid     On: 2008-02-20

The description said they were not authentic. They are very similar, like the seller said in their description, but obviousley all haizanski knows how to do is complain and not read.
these are not real i-pod earphones!     On: 2008-02-14

We were very disapointed when we received these to find out that the were just a cheap imitation of the real ipod headphones, even though the picture shown is of the real thing. Dont buy these!!!
horrible     On: 2008-02-11

ive gone through three pairs, by request to apple, and this time they actually fell apart. they always seem to get blown within a week of use and just sound muddy forever since.
Decent sound, but fall out a lot     On: 2008-02-08

I tried a pair of coby earbuds that sounded awful compared to these but these really are uncomfortable and constantly fall out even light walking. The sound really is good for the price range though.
Ouch!     On: 2008-01-29

I repeat, OUCH!!!! .... Okay, they physically hurt my ear. The sound is okay but not great unless I push them into my ear pretty far. Love the iPod, dont like the headphones.
Super Great     On: 2008-01-26

I love these headphones. THey work great. my first pair were mangled by my sisters spastic cat and i cant wait to get another pair.
Average at Best     On: 2008-01-22

These came with my iPod Nano and I thought that they would have been a whole lot better than what they are, considering the type of electronic device they came with. These ear buds dont stay situated in my ears during workouts and fall out regularly. When they do stay in, they are one of the most uncomfortable earbuds I have ever used. My ears are actually tired & sore after using them for an hour. The sound is good in them, but for the comfort & fit, I would recommend a completely different ear piece. Not at all what should be sold with a quality product like the iPods.
Third pair now - falling apart after 2 months is the norm     On: 2008-01-21

I got 2 pairs of these for free with the 2 iPods I purchased in 2006-2007. My first sets earbuds rubber lining around the earbuds started the crack, then peel off, after a few months, so I just got another set (didnt know what kind of expensive, higher-end set I wanted yet, so I took the cheapest option, with what Apple supplies with the iPods just for the time being). Now those rubber rings are starting to wear off - falling apart after a few months seems to be the norm for these things. Its not like I was doing heavy workouts or sweaty work with them on, or wearing them at the beach, either - Im talking about normal, walk to work or chores around the house use. Cheap they are, and sound is average at best, but with a $200+ 160G iPod "Classic" (read: old model) there should be a better earbud supplied. I wont be buying another set of these; Ill look into something more durable and comfortable (ouch! hard plastic on these...)
Poor quality     On: 2008-01-18

Giving up on these. Ordered 2 sets for my wife and myself (our original ipod phones broke). These both fell apart within a week, and we hardly used them. Went to Radio Shack...$9 ear pieces there were much higher quality. We still love our ipods :)
Not what I expected     On: 2008-01-11

When it comes to music and mp3 players, Ive always used apple. When I saw these earphones for sale, I was really excited but when I got them in the mail they were the older generation earbuds. Ive had the new ones (the ones pictured on this page) and I liked them better than the old ones (the ones I received in the mail).

However, the sound isnt bad, and theyre pretty.
Avoid!!!!!!!!!!     On: 2007-12-23

These are TERRIBLE!!!!!! The sound quality is bad and they dont fit in my ears properly. They are uncomfortable, and they always fall out. My husband has the same problem with them. THEY SUCK!
good sound, ergonomy and design, but not durable     On: 2007-11-04

This headphones have a good enough sound, ergonomy and design. However the plastic that covers the border of each headphone falls easily. Ive had mine for less than a year, and the right one is peeling. This isnt uncomfortable, however I dont like that some pieces of plastic can get to the inside of my ears (unlikely, but still... this shouldnt happen in the first place).

Apple should include a foam and make all the headphone of more durable plastic (the gray parts use a less durable plastic). If this corporation is going green; it should stop making disposable electronics (the shuffle is another example... when the battery dies). Apple is best as a platform maker, leave the accesory market to third parties! (ie: the HiFi speakers are EOL).

At $30, this arent cheap. A fair price is about $15. Also, the design isnt that useful for a portable audio player... it should use a closed-design.

I have just purchased this headphoneas as replacement: Sennheiser HD 202 (which at $25 are less expensive than the Apple ones... and with superior design).
they fall apart like it's their job     On: 2007-10-31

The only reason Im writing this review is because Im looking for replacement headphones because my fourth pair of these Apple earbuds just broke. As usual, one side just completely stopped working. Other ones that have broken came apart at the gray seam by the metal-looking mesh and then the wire snapped. On another pair that broke, the wire coating wore out near where it plugs into my ipod and they stopped working. For earbuds that are $30+ to replace, Apple seriously needs to work on their quality. These suck. I dont abuse my headphones (and I have an iHome so they arent even used that much anyway). When I took the first pair that broke to the Apple Store, they even said it wasnt anything I did (they literally just fell apart) and replaced them for free. That pair lasted about five months before the same thing happened. Ridiculous. I only give it two stars because the sound quality is better than the other headphones Ive tried. Otherwise theyre barely worthy of one star.
apple i-pod headphones     On: 2007-10-10

I had bought another type of headphones before i bought this one for more money and they fell apart. I think these are the best headphones for the money.
Stopped working     On: 2007-10-09

not happy with this... it stopped working after less than one year... the price is too high!
Decent     On: 2007-09-30

These headphones are decent sound quality and fairly comfortable. I have had them for over a year, and a few months back, the rubber cushioning around the headphone started to come off, and has now completely come off.

So they are a good product, yet they dont last too long, but what can you ask for when they are a free pair of headphones that ship with all iPods?
just buy the $11 opened one shoved in a pile in the bottom of a walmart isle     On: 2007-09-24

only reason people even consider these is because there apples and its cool to be an apple.

these are even worst then the 1st gen ones and i dont know about you but the 2st gen ones looked cooler but not many people think so

the sound quality is like a 2/10 for this price range

the part where theyr supposed to fit in your ear, forget it especially while jogging 2/10

the cord is actually one of the better rubber cords that will stand alot of ware and tear but that really doesnt matter 9/10

Had to buy them :-(     On: 2007-09-11

Well I had to get these overpriced things. They cost about as much as an iPod shuffle - You can get much better for about 1/3 the price
Don't last very long     On: 2007-09-09

These headphones are comfortable for me and the sound is great, but they only last a few months. My first set started crackling badly, to the point that i finally decided to replace them. I thought it must have been a fluke and bought another set and now, two months later, the left side now plays no sound. Ive never actually had a set of earphones go out on me in my entire life - except for my two apple sets.
Son's Happy     On: 2007-08-05

Purchased these as a replacement for my sons factory OEM headphones. They were just what he was expecting and since they are Apple made, Worked just fine with his Ipod Nano.
Good Replacement Headphones     On: 2007-07-27

If you are looking to just replace the headphones that came with your ipod, this is exactly what you need.
Good sound but not of the highest quality     On: 2007-07-24

I have no problem with the fit of these headphones and find them comfortable whether bicycling or just sitting and listening. They dont fall out of my ears and the sound isnt bad either, the bass is full without being boomy and the music is well defined. My problems are with the durability and quality of these earphones. After only a few months (approximately 6) the rubber covering for the phones has worn almost completely off and the right phone went "soft", ie decreased in volume compared to the left. Being a musician (drummer) that plays regularly at high volumes, I thought at first it was my hearing going bad. Much to my relief when I switched the phones to the opposite ears I realized it was the fault of the headphones and not me going deaf, yet. So I bought another pair and much to my consternation after a few months the covering for the right phone fell off exposing the speaker. I put it back on and everything was fine for another month or so but now that phone distorts during moderately loud bass passages. Crap, looks like Im going to now drop a couple of hundred bucks and get the Shure audiophile versions.
WATERPROOF EARPHONES     On: 2007-07-23

I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THIS PRODUCT. I HAD MY EARPHONES INSIDE MY POCKET OF MY PANTS.MY WIFE WITHOUT KNOWING OR CHECKING SHE WASHED MY PANTS. IT WAS A 30 MINUTE WASH. SHE SAW THEM FLOATING SO SHE QUICKLY GRAB THEM AND PUT THEM NEXT TO MY IPOD. SO I GRAB MY EARPHONES AND IPOD STARTED USING THEM LIKE NORMAL.
I SAW MY WIFE LOOKING AT ME WITH A WEIRD LOOK .SO I ASK HER WHY IS SHE LOOKING AT ME THAT WAY? SHE EXPLAINS AND I WAS AMAZED WITH THE DURABILITY THAT THIS EARPHONES HAVE.....DONT TRY THIS AT HOME.
Discomfort but nice sound     On: 2007-07-07

If I wear them long enough, they start to hurt my ears. I couldnt find a way to keep them in comfortably.

I have 3 sets of earbud-style headphones and these are the best I have so far. Unfortunately my cat chewed into the cord and Im in the market for a new set. Im debating whether or not to get the same ones again or try something new.
Yes, very bad...     On: 2007-07-05

These came with my iPod Video 30 Gig. They sound good, but they dont have much bass. Theyre also uncomfortable to wear. After a few months the rubber lining came off, and now the left one isnt as loud as the right one. Im getting a Sony sports one, these arent worth any more than $10.
They stay in your ear while jogging     On: 2007-06-27

The quality of sound is good. Better than your average but obviously not top of the line. I use them extensively while working out (biking and running). The key is, for some reason, they stay in your ear pretty easily whereas most others fall out. I cant explain it but they just do. Also, on other headphones, the chords start to crack I guess from weather, sweat, etc drying the rubber casing out. These last a long time compared to others. Also, the area that connects to the player is flexible enough that ive never had the chord rip or break. Theres an extra rubber piece that reinforces the joint. Overall, a good value if youre someone like me who is pretty rough on their headphones.
Pathetic from a company like Apple     On: 2007-06-25

I took me about two days of wearing these earbuds to start shopping for a replacement pair. They dont fit the ear canals, the sound is terrible (no bass, allow much too much ambient noise), and they just arent up to Apple standards. If I wasnt already sold on a great mp3 player, the Nano, I would look for another brand just because the bundled earbuds are of such poor quality.
Only giving it a star because it comes with the greatest music player     On: 2007-06-23

What AWFUL SOUND AND QUALITY!!! FIrst off, ive never heard worse sounding headphones. The mids are awful the bass is quite possibly non-existent so the only sound i hear from these POS are high tinny screams and bings and chimes and beeps and ARGHHH!!! Secondly, the quality of these headphones are awful. My friends headphones have just randomly stopped producing sound, and ive seen so many of these with cracked shells. Please if you want great headphones that are CHEAPER than these email me! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE! Also they dont block ANY sound unless u really jam if in your ear and put the volume to the max. Which in turn, causes ear damage and at times deafness. GOOD LUCK!
I guess thats what the default is     On: 2007-06-20

The sound is alright, it does the trick because i have no expectations of concert sound when i am walking to class on a bus or in flight.

My problem is the construction.

I got these with my iPod 6 months ago, and within about 4, the rubber edges start to peel (they are still for the most part in tact). Then inexplicably the speaker buds adhesive failed and it was dislodged from the base. I had to use superglue to put it back together. They still function and sound good enough, but I would not recommend buying these as a separate entity. Shop around.
All you are buying here is the trendy ipod look.
I expected more from Apple...     On: 2007-06-09

These ear headphones are horribly uncomfortable! They are made of a very hard plastic and they really hurt my ears. Plus they are large and do not fit well anyway.
what is there really to complain about     On: 2007-06-07

These are not the best headphones i ever bought but they are decent. These came with my shuffle and they fit in my ear wear and dont get tangle as much as past earbuds i have bought. I use these while im walking to work, doing housework and they give me no problem. Of course the sound quailty can be better. If my earbuds were to break i would not spend the 29 dollars to replace them with these.
Since Apple won't give you any when you buy replacement ear phones...     On: 2007-06-07

My dog ate my wifes ear phones so I bought the replacements on Amazon only to find Apple wont include one lousy set of foam covers with them - and you and I both know that Apple knows that without the foam covers the ear phones wont stay in your ears when running. Apple is so clever. But all that aside, the covers are just the ticket if you need them and having them shipped beats driving around to find them and wasting the time and money on gas, right??? Id of given them 5 stars if I got one pair with the replacement ear phones in the first place.
Very Medicore     On: 2007-06-06

My apple headphones were never really all that. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because of the style and they fit comfortable in my ear.

They are very unstable and will break very easily after about 1 month the headphones will start to scramble up the music and the quality gets even worse. Do not even lick them because if you do they are fried. Not worth the price and I will never buy any headphones from Apple again.
Inexpensive basic buds     On: 2007-06-01

If youve blown out your ipods original earbuds, these will make a decent replacement. They do not have the fidelity of more expensive in-ear phones, but are convenient for general use.
5 Stars or 2 Stars depend on use     On: 2007-05-19

I have 2 sets of earbuds, this stock Ipod earbud and "high end" Shure e4c.

Let talk Ipod earbud:
As we see Apple advertising for Ipod on street bill boards or magazines, the users are active (not sitting still). This Ipod earbud is for this active use. The Ipod provide enough fine sound for ENHANCE to body movement activity. User pay half attention to body active and half to the music. Combination of the two applications together at once become so fine of the use. So I rate 5 stars for this use. I rate 2 stars for just sitting still for enjoying 100% music.

Let talk about my other the "high end" Shure e4c (just for comparison):
The Shure e4c is for 100% sitting STILL to ejoy music. The Shure e4c is too fine, it enhance every detail of sound, music sound, eating chewing sound, drinking sound, walking sound, ... when wearing the pair. Every detail of sound is crystal clear & Amplifying!!! It perfectly blocking all external sound and enhancing every kind of internal sound. I rate perfect 5 stars for STILL to enjoy 100% music. I rate 2 stars for use the Shure with body motion.
GREAT     On: 2007-05-07

VERY Comfortable CAN SLEEP WITH THEM EVEN I DONT KNOW WHY THEY ONLY GAVE IT 3 stars and a half
Great sound horrible feel     On: 2007-05-05

They sound great and have an awesome bas response. I just tried the Sony and JVC version of these headphones and they are not as good as these (which came stock with my new iPod shuffle)

The problem is that they are round and hard plastic, very uncomfortable and hurt my smaller ears. The search for the perfect replacement headphones continues.
Great ear buds     On: 2007-04-11

I recently replaced my older ear buds the ones that came with my older shuffle with these. They are great. They feel a lot more comfortable in my ear when jogging and also better sound quality then from my previous pair. Its nicely designed I my opinion and I certainly enjoy them.
decent     On: 2007-04-06

These came with my iPod. For being stock earphones they are ok. The bass isnt very loud but they sound ok. They feel cheap especially around base of the buds where the rubber sleeves are. The fit is good.

They get 3 stars for being included with the iPod but if I had to pay $30 for them then it would be a 1 star. I dont get why Apple has the nerves to charge that much for them. A cheap $10 pair of Sonys are better in all aspects.
Ipod Headphones     On: 2007-03-31

The Ipod headphones perform wonderful. Exceptional clarity. Many unheard or lost subtlties in the music are brought out. The new design allows it to fit more comfortably in your ears than the previous model. The bass is somewhat lacking, but can be increased by using the Bass Booster under the Equilizer in the Ipod.
Not Impressed     On: 2007-03-28

The earphones are acceptable...if you want to have a pair of disposable earphones for the gym or something. First of all, the jack is not a L-Shaped jack, so the tension will eventually cause the lining around the jack to rip, this happened to me, and i heard a significant decrease in volume, as well as lack of base, not that it had much to begin with. After a while, due to the ripped coating around the jack, the headphones died.
Poor Quality     On: 2007-03-22

Received the earphones and found that they were faulty. Returning them cost more money in shipping than what I paid for the item. The earphones had an electronic noise in the background that distorted the sound of the music.
Product does not deserve such a panning     On: 2007-03-21

There are two things I would like to address before I begin my review.

First off, I have had an iPod since the second generation ones were released and I have never had a set of headphones break on me. Please realize though that these are earbuds, you have to be a bit more delicate with them than normal headphones. As long as you dont snag them all too often they should perform fine. If you sweat buckets at the gym the sound may temporarily get muddy, but this is true for near any set of earbuds. Let them dry out and they should be fine. If this is a problem or consideration for you, think about getting canal buds as they sit further in your ear and should alleviate the problem, though I cant personally attest to this.

Secondly, I am an average sized male and I have no problem fitting these into my ears. The newest iPod headphones (purchased an 80 gig video a bit less than a month ago) have an improved layer of plastic that, very much like a thin layer of foam, adds to their comfort and helps to keep them in your ears. (refer to the second and third pictures in the product description for a better idea) Some people just dont like the feel of earbuds. Do I notice them in my ears, yes. Would I say they hurt my ears when I wear them, no. I also go to the gym several times a week and never had a problem with them falling out, even after running 5+ miles and then doing bench reps and other lift this big object a few dozen times" sort of things.

As sound quality goes, they are okay earbuds. Given their price, you would be hard pressed to find comparable ear buds. Using the built in iPod EQ significantly helps to compensate for their shortcomings, but audiophiles please look elsewhere. They offer little to no outside insolation, which is good for walking the crowded streets of NYC, avoiding renegade drivers and bicycle messengers with a death wish. On the subway or bus youll find yourself blasting these things. If outside noise is a big concern, consider sealed standard headphones or be prepared to spend a pretty penny on noise canceling earbuds.

Based on several reviews I recently purchased a Sennheiser HD280 pro for home and campus use, but for as walking around or going to the gym I am more than content with the standard iPod earbuds. As far as earbuds or canal buds go, you may want to check out the Creative Labs EP 630 for a good low end model or if you are willing to spend a bit more, you might want to consider the Etymotic Research ER6i (which I may add is being sold at a ludicrously low price). While I havent owned or used either set for a significant period of time, sources I trust regard them rather highly. But let me reiterate these are technically Canal buds, while earbuds sit on the outside of your ear, these go a bit into your ear canal similar to earplugs. If you cant stand having things in your ears do not buy these.
Worst thing about the IPOD     On: 2007-03-14

Well, beside the short battery life on the IPOD, the headphones that come with the IPOD are the worst. They must have made these things for freaking GIANTS, because they just will not fit properly in my ears (or my wife). AND WORSE, if I am working out at the gym, sweat only makes it even more impossible to keep these things in. I can underatsand that they probably dont want people to stick these things in their ears (loss of hearing from noise etc) but I mean come on. Make other pairs that will at least fit most of the normal sized ears that the population has!!
Ouch!     On: 2007-03-13

These are crap. They are so freakin huge my ears hurt. I have to walk around practically with my fingers in my ears to keep these stupid things from falling out; forget exercising with them. I am not petite, I am just an average female with regular size ear canals, not that there is any ONE size and you would think for the ridiculous amount of money we cough up for the ipod they could come with earbuds that have various size adjustments. They dont fit my husband either. BUY SOMETHING ELSE!!
Thier good     On: 2007-03-03

I dont know why so many of the reveiwers dislike these headphones. I actually like them alot. They sound good, have good base and the sound is balanced. Their not even big, their actually smaller and more comfortable than the old ipod earbuds. I would really recomend these. The only drawback is that their very lightweight so they feel cheap. They dont sound that way though. But after a while, if you wrap them around your ipod, the base of the headphones next to the jack will tear.
Forget these     On: 2007-02-27

Started using my brand new 80GB iPod in January and have had TWO original iPod ear phones break on me (one bud would just stop working). Apprently very poorly made. I treat my iPod and the phones extremely well so why the phones could just break is bizarre to me. Wonder if Apple is trying to get us to buy endless replacements of their distinct-white ear buds to make up for lowering the cost of their 80GB?

They are still selling these?     On: 2007-02-22

its 2007 and Apple, well thanks for the ipod its awesome, but like duh the headphones!

this might be a real hard question coming up:

Cant "someone", "one" person? at Apple, buy the Sony 51s and cut them open and then make something close to it? its not like Sony has a patent on their headphones. other brands are close to the sony.

In 2005 I went into our big Apple store in the mall, and showed them my sonys, ask whats the deal with apple heads? are they coming out with anything ? nobody knew nothing, and when they looked at my Sonys they half smiled and said, yea we know.

just last month, I go in again with a friend needing a case, thought I would ask the same Qs, hey I am here. They take me over to the headphones and point to me that they now SELL the sonys!

Well whatever, is it really rocket science? did they try and give up? come on it cant be that hard come on lol! back in WWII we were stealing each others stuff and making copies, eh???

Go figure, huh?
Apple iPod purchase and use of     On: 2007-02-20

The purchase of the Apple iPod ear phones went smooth and I recieved them in good time~the sound is better ordinary ones.
Huge and bad     On: 2007-01-30

These are the most painful earbuds I have ever experienced, and Ive gone through approximately 8 pairs in the past twelve or so years. These pop out, or else they slide out. They are impossible to wedge into my ears for any length of time. The black foam covers slipped right off and disappeared forever within a day (funny they dont show them in the picture). The sound is so bad that I would need a music degree to explain what it does to make the treble so tinny and the bass so booming, yet everything else faint. How does Apple get away with handing out such junk with a $300+ toy?
I hate these, too!     On: 2007-01-13

These dont stay in my ears for two minutes whilst sitting perfectly still on a couch! I thought I had ears on the large side of average, but these are too big. Its a real let down that these came with my $250 ipod nano! Apple really should include a more usable pair! However my best friend got an ipod and they stay in her ears fine, so I guess they work for some people, but not for others. Either way, I like the white.
I hate these     On: 2006-12-31

Some people like these but I dont. I can never get them to stay in my ears, and when I run on the treadmill @ the gym they always fall out. Horrible. I wish Apple would have their consumers in mind a little bit more - we pay $300+ for an ipod and cant even get decent earphones to put the product to use.
The Jolly Green Giant loves them!     On: 2006-12-30

But too bad my ears arent huge enough to enjoy this. Most people Ive talked to said they were too large or uncomfortable and that working out really was distracting, having to constantly push the buds back in. I have faith Apple will "get it" and put out something more comfortable with the next generation of ipods.
I hate these     On: 2006-12-30

Some people like these but I dont. I can never get them to stay in my ears, and when I run on the treadmill @ the gym they always fall out. Horrible. I wish Apple would have their consumers in mind a little bit more - we pay $300+ for an ipod and cant even get decent earphones to put the product to use.
These headphones are definately a waste of money.     On: 2006-12-12

These headphones are uncomfortable and constantly fall out. Compare them against Sonys and Sennheisers and youll wonder why you ever considered buying these. Go now - if you spend anymore time thinking about this youll run the risk of impulse buying these over-priced, under-performing, uncomfortable headphones that will likely break in 12-18 months. Every single person I know who owns these headphones, myself included, have reported loss of sound in one or both of the ear buds after 8-10 months of light to normal use. I consider these headphones an embarrassment, not only to modern manufacturing, but to all that humanity has ever achieved.
Uncomfortable but sound okay

Everyone knocks these, but I think they sound pretty good for the price. You just cant get really good earbuds in this range. Yes, theres not much bass, but they are bright and clear compared to the competition. Unfortunately, they hurt to wear. When I do find an almost comfortable fit, they fall out. Completely useless for exercise and not good for long listening. Somebody should make covers for these -- like the ear jams (which do not fit the new earbuds).

Update: After time, these get more comfortable -- or perhaps I figured out a better way to wear them. Those who say the sound is bad have not tested similarly priced buds. None are great in this price-range, but these are more than adequate for most listeners and better than most. True, bass is limited, but thats mostly the type of bud. Youll get better bass with a plug that fits into your ear canal -- although not from one this price.

The Apple iPod In-Ear Headphones is a little bit more expenisve than the regular iPod headphones, so you may think that the sound quality is better...but thats not the truth. I was excited to try out these new gadgets after I bought them...but they are not user-friendly...
The headphones kit includes 3 sets of earpieces (small, medium, large)...it took me almost an hour to figure out which combination was best for me (even though the best wasnt perfect)...the left side kept on falling off while the right side stayed in perfectly when they are in my ears, so I always have to adjust them from time to time...
that is just one of the issues...
the sound quality is bad (you have to get used to the "improved sound")...all my songs sounded like FM radio quality when I listen to them with these headphones...
as the previous reviewer stated, if it wasnt for the sleek design, these headphones wouldve gotten a 1!
Apple should do something to fix these in-ear headphones...
so for now...stick with the regular iPod headphones!

These newly designed earphones stink.     On: 2006-10-08

Form must always follow function; however, these new earphones by Apple really missed the mark. Yes, they look better than the old and yes they fit a little better because of the smaller size but they have no low end response.

Its mechanical science 101, a smaller volume of space cannot produce the same low frequencies as the larger space. Thus, larger size and magnets of the old is > than the new ones with the smaller size and smaller magnets.

Case in point, these earphones sound tinny. They dont nearly sound as "full" as the old models they replaced. Thats why Im going around and buying as many of the old models as I can. The old earphones werent sold separately so I had to buy it with for example, the FM radio. But Its worth it to me since the old earphones seem to be "tuned" better to the ipods and nanos.

Steve Jobs and the design team really droped the ball on this one. The new earphones look good but they dont sound good. I would have given it just one stars if not for the sleeker design.
