I had this kit installed in 4 vehicles and easily move the Stiletto between vehicles. the kit works exactly as advertised. On: 2008-06-17
I had this professionally installed by Best Buy but could not get the dock to recognize the anntena after multiple attempts and even replacing the actual stiletto device, I can still not get this dock to work On: 2008-05-31
I love the Stiletto and the vehicle dock, had a problem with the FM transmiter not being strong enough and getting static but installed the FM signal booster available for it and it is great now. On: 2008-05-29
This unit works fine if you are direct connecting to your car sound system. If you are relying on the FM transmitter you will be disappointed. The signal is weak even with the antennae extender. It is impossible to find a frequency that doesnt have static. On: 2008-05-29
I love the car dock for my Sirius Stiletto! It allows me to listen either through the radio with the built in FM transmitter or trough the stereo with the audio output. In my Cadillac I have the Bose system with CD and cassette deck, so I used a cassette adapter and it sounds perfect. When the dock is hooked directly to your stereo you dont ever hear that annoying bleed through from the radio. The FM transmitter is not bad except in Salem, OR. where I live it is nearly impossible to find a channel on the radio without a radio station which makes it impossible to use the FM transmitter. Overall, I love this dock and am on my second one. It is my fault that I destroyed the first one, they dont like to get wet. If I break this one for any reason, I surely will replace it again. I purchased the Stilleto 2 and the vehicle docking kit thru Amazon. I hooked up the docking kit in my truck without any problems, but when I went to put the radio in the docking unit, it didnt fit. Seems that the connectors dont line up. I called Sirius and they said I had to contact where I bought it (Amazon). It fit without the battery and backing, but didnt line up when it was completely together, so I ground down some of the case to get things to line up. It now works properly, but when you spend this amount of money for a product it should work properly and Sirius should handle problems with their products. Ill never buy from them again. Discontiued product difficult to find in stores. I am satisfied other than the fact that it was advertised as new, but i received a refurbished one. On: 2008-04-17
I love this product. I was glad I was able to still find it since the new stiletto came out and at a resonable price. On: 2008-04-12
A must have for this unit. My #4 key sticks a little, but its a necessity I can deal with it. On: 2008-04-07
---I was disappointed that the only attachment method was a large circular "sticky back--it severely limited where it could be placed and did not hold up to the sun on the dashboard. It is already falling off only a few weeks after the initial setup--at least if there was a suction cup, I could try reattaching--my stiletto looks like it will be falling off the dashboard within the week, and at this point I need to find a glue that will not damage my dashboard or try to duct-tape it on temporarily, which will probably permanently mar my dashboard! I purchased this item and once I attempted to use it the quality was horrible. It was very staticy and you had a hard time listening to your music over the static. I ended up returning the item and buying a much cheaper one from Wal-Mart that works much better. I wouldnt recomend waisting the time and money on this product. On: 2008-04-07
Very handy product if you purchase a stilleto 100 if you dont have a stiletto 10 or 100 this would be next to useless. no really works well and comes well equiped with accesories . On: 2008-03-31
Directed Electronics SLV1 SIRIUS Stiletto Vehicle Docking Kit In Black
We have really enjoyed the Sirius Vehicle Docking Kit. It was a great deal and recieved it in a timely manner.
Thank You. On: 2008-03-18
Ive read notes about people having trouble with the reception using this box, but I found if I loop the power cord over the rear view mirror (it is plenty long) I could get a good fm signal. I noticed that these FM xmitters seem to use the power cable as part of the broadcast antenna -- at least the ones Ive used always work better if I loop the power cable over something.
I didnt try the antenna provided since this worked fine in the pickup. When I take it over to the car Ill plug into the aux port on the radio. I could see someone having problems with the radio receiving antenna buried in the rear window glass. On: 2008-03-09
The car dock works great; it powers the unit on and off with the ignition. So far, so good. On: 2008-03-01
I was very satisfied. The disply is clear and easily viewed while driving. Being able to listen to sattelite radio while walking or jogging is a very nice feature On: 2008-02-12
This is a base, for the stiletto, for your car. The base charges the Stiletto while its sitting in the base. It comes with a remote control (too small in size, but still nice), that makes it convenient to operate your radio. The base buttons are lit up for ease (glance) while driving.
I used the vent grill hooks option to mount it to the dash, works quite well. There are a few solutions for mounting, that come with it. Note: There is an aftermarket floor stand for it, that is a flexible cable rod, and easily mounts to the floor via a seat floor bolt, that would make it less inviting to theives. For now, I hang a black wool cap over the radio. This is because it is a pain to constantly mount and unmount the radio from the base, and Im a little leary of wear and tear on the connection interface on the bottom of the radio. When you try to grab the radio and pull up on it, there is just very little surface area to grab without pressing other buttons, latches, etc. Ok to mount/dismount when necessary. There is another web site for getting both the FM Direct Adapter and extra adapter cables youll need. Search on Metra Antennaworks product 40gm30, then hone in on your own car info. Without a casette player in the dash, its the only real solution for hook up to your car audio system. I have a Chevy Trailblazer. In my case, go behind the glove box, and there is a radio antenna wire coupling, allowing for super easy installation for the FM Direct Adapter. This is the only Stiletto car base available, (as far as I know) and it does the trick. Chemercial installation runs about $90 parts included. On: 2008-02-05
I received the stiletto as a xmas gift and was confused at first why Id need a car kit for a portable satellite radio. I guess Im still a bit confused, because the unit in my opinion should work as a "portable" device. Oh well.
My next question was.... If I get the car kit, do I truly have to install the antenna? Would it be good enough to just set the antenna puck on my dash board or rear shelf? First let me say, using the Stilleto in my car (in Illinois) *without* the car kit sucked. It was truly a test of my patience, as I could hardly make it through a song with "Aquiring Signal" showing up on my unit. I rate this frustration right up their with untangling shoelaces or xmas lights!
After trying for a few weeks to use the Stiletto in my car without the car kit, and having great patience, I decided to purchase the SLV1. Ive had the kit now for about 2 weeks and so far Ive been very happy with it. I didnt professionally install the antenna yet, but just have the puck sitting on my dashboard. So far not a single interrupted song or program.
I found a local installer, who quoted me about $60-65 to install the vehicle kit. At this point, Im not sure if Im going to have it more permanently installed as Im getting a great signal.
I still havent found the optimal place to "mount" the base of the unit in my car, and that might be part of my hesitation of getting it permanently installed. I dont like the MANY wires and would like to figure out how to best hide them, and tuck them away. There are three wires going to my unit (audio, power, and antenna), and some of these cables are real long, especially the antenna. But, you certainly need a long antenna cable if youre permanently installing the unit.
I use the audio output, Ive heard lots of folks complain about the FM transmitter. I agree that a direct audio input is probably best.
One thing I think would be ideal, is a "kit" that could be used both in my car AND in my house. When I got the Stiletto I was hoping for more of a portable solution. I really like the features of Stiletto. They did a good design job. If youre debating getting the SLV1, get it. Youll be glad. I didnt really think Id need or use the remote control since the unit is pretty much at arms length, but its nice having the remote as you are less distracted when changing channels, and your arm can be resting on your center console while pressing keys rather than reaching out to keep pressing keys. I love this radio! I have been a sirius subscriber for about 4 years and when my old receiver died I knew what I waned in a new one - portability! This receiver allows you to move it between different cars or in to your house. The record feature is great! You can record shows and play them back when you have time. I would recommend this radio to anyone. On: 2008-01-27
Easy installation, I was happy that I could quickly put the unit together, and find a place in the vehicle for placement. I like the fact that it also came with enough pieces that I had several options during the installation process to choose from; whether it be vent mount, or dash location. I recommend this kit to anyone looking to purchase a similar unit.

I drive a semi truck and I have had many vehicle kits for my various sirius radios. However, this unit is the best of the best. You have your FM Transmitter built in and with this unit, you can not only set your own FM presets, you can manually adjust the frequencies as you need to get the best clear channel. I am so excited that I purchased this vehicle kit with my Stiletto 100 receiver. On: 2008-01-21
I ordered this car kit about 3 weeks ago. It has already gone out. When I called Sirius, I was forwarded to the WORST customer service reps I have ever dealt with. The first 3 people wouldnt listen and I became annoyed and hung up. On the 4th try, I finally had a person who would listen. I told him the unit had been working in the car the day before, and not would not recognize that it was is the vehicle dock. He told me, that it is "hard" on the unit to be turned on and off on the "short trips" I take. So I asked and was told its not made to listen to in the car unless the unit will be on for awhile. Totally worthless to me. I dont know about you, but I drive in town, not 3 hour road trips everyday.
Further, it is a pain to install. 3 long wires that are hard to hide in the car. After about 2 hours of install, I turn it all on to find, even with the antenna booster(Which by the way, I unplugged to find NO difference in the sound quality), there is still hiss is the background. I have tried every channel in my area, and settled on one that was the "best". If you want to overcome this, it is possible. With another purchase of yet even more wires and I think of a cost around 50$. This looks a little bit tricker to install as well. You have to get into the back of your stereo which I, and sure most of you, have no clue how to do.
All in the all the radio is okay. Programming is great, the car kit is JUNK. Customer service? JUNK. On: 2008-01-07
If you have the radio, the vehicle kit is a must have. It contains everything you need to install it in your car. Its easy to install & easy to use! On: 2007-12-24
Easy to install and easy to move from vehicle to vehicle. We have especially enjoyed it driving in NY traffic for hours and enjoying Sirius! On: 2007-12-12
I have not had any of the problems listed here with my Stiletto car kit. My FM transmitter works superior to the one I was replacing. I plugged it in, switched my account to my new unit and have no static. It broadcasts on the same channel and more clearly than my last model. I am completely satisfied and did not have to purchase any extra parts, or hardwire in.
The mounting clips are exactly the same as my other XM unit and have worked well on that one for 5 years.
My husband has the Pioneer Inno and we prefer the Stiletto device but just cant give up the dual programming. On: 2007-12-12
This product is GREAT, it is definitely recommended if you purchase the Stilleto or other mobile Sirius product. When you install it get the direct connection instead of the one where it is transmitted over a radio station because it sucks having to keep finding different unused radio stations. On: 2007-11-09
I am generally unsatisfied with the Sirius Stiletto, but especially with the car kit. I drive a Buick Century, a good, solid mid-sized car, and the car adapter is so big and bulky that I cant use it. In a Buick Century. We are not talking about a tiny Nissan or Kia. We are talikng about a Buick! The adhesive for the dashboard mount is too weak to support the weight of the unit with the radio. I LOVE Sirius radio, I may eventually pay to have the internal satellite antenna put into my car. But the Stiletto is a disappointment. On: 2007-10-19
I love my Stiletto, and love my Stiletto home kit. The car kit? Not so much. It works fine - as far as reception, etc - but the design of the dock is not so hot on the fit and finish, and the mounting arm, etc - its all just a bit cheezy and hard to deal with. Inserting the Stiletto into the dock is a 2 handed job, and things dont seem to line up so well - so you need to use a little force, and that is not something I like to do when dealing with connections on electronic devices! Another annoyance is - before you can use your Stiletto in the car after hooking up to the dock, you have to wait an interminable time for it to connect so you are stuck looking at the cute Sirius dog and some stars that show you the progress of your connection - cant use the MP3 player ability or anything else until it connects. This is really annoying - my dedicated Sirius car radios do not take that much time to sync up - and in fact, if I just use the Stilletto in my car as-is =without= the car dock, it syncs up super fast/no problem. Anyway - I wanted to love this car dock - but it is the weakest link in my Stiletto accessory collection, cheezy, cludgy and definitely not worth paying full price for! On: 2007-10-04
Strange one. I purchased my Stiletto and Car Kit from Circuit City. I had them install it. They direct wired the Car Kit to my 2002 Subraru. After I got the car home - a three hour drive, the next day the Car Kit would not power on. Then in the afternoon it would power up. Then in the morning would not power up. It had a mind of its own. It seems that the kit only powers up when the interior of the car is warm? Not a good thing for Colorado.
I called Sirius to no avail. - Take it back to Circuit City thay said. I ask them if I could have them ship me a cig lighter adaptor - no - have to buy a new car kit to get that.
Called Circut City - The problem is they of course have to see it. I wanted to see if I could resolve this issue w/o driving back up to Denver just for that. No Luck - The best advise I got from both Circuit City and Sirius was to buy another Car Kit and have some one local install it. On: 2007-08-24
The kit is easy to install and use, however the extended FM transmitter is very very weak so I had to purchase another additional FM transmitter so that I can get a clear signal. This should be standard with the kit. On: 2007-08-20
Like the other reviewers, the FM transmitter isnt strong enough so I have static on every channel I try to use. Its like the old days of radio...if I hold the thing in my hand its fine...if I set it down its full of static. I know I dont have a bad one because I bought a second and it does exactly the same thing. Apparently unless you plan to connect it directly to your cars antenna, its a total waste of money. This product works fine I dont know if it was worth all the money. It wasnt as cracked up as i thought it would be. On: 2007-07-26
I just had this installed in my car yesterday at Circuit City for about $76--well worth the price of professional installation! (And much cheaper than BEST BUY!) They did a great job, wired the power and the antenna directly into the radio & behind the dashboard--no wires at all. However, as some other reviewers have noted, be sure to get an FM Modular tie-in thingamajig, only costs $20 on Amazon (cheaper than in-store), and the reception is 1000% better, no interference whatsoever vs. a wireless FM hookup. I believe the other reviewers are correct when they say the Stiletto has a much weaker FM broadcast than the previous Sirius models.
One other small drawback: the dashboard mounting arm that is supplied w/this unit is a bit short. Because of the way my car is configured (older Infiniti I30) the docking station is a bit low, not exactly where I want it. I think Im going to invest in an aftermarket Sirius gooseneck mount, which sells on Amazon for $17-$25,Arkon SR-88 15-inch Flexible Gooseneck Satellite Radio Mount for Delphi Skiff or Sirius Satellite Radios as it looks like a better solution.
Other than that, this is a great product for your Sirius radio. Howard rules!! On: 2007-05-25
Yes it does allow you to listen to your stilleto in your vehicle, however, you still need to purchase the FM direct adapter separately. The FM transmitter it comes with is useless. They need to repackage it so it comes with the direct adapter. On: 2007-01-02
YOU WILL NEED A CASSETTE ADAPTER OR DIRECT FM ADAPTER FOR BEST RECEPTION IN CITY AREAS. I USED A CASSTTE ADAPTER AND AM VERY HAPPY WITH RESULTS. On: 2006-12-13
I recently hooked my S100 up to my car and everything seems to work just fine. The only problem i had was setting the fm transmitter to a channel that didnt have any interference from radio stations. Problem solved by connecting Siriuss FM direct Adapter(which connects through the cars antenna plug). No more static in any city. So the only real problem is that this car kit doesnt come with the FM direct adapter which was $20. On: 2006-11-11
I recently purchased the car kit (as the Stiletto does not have an FM transmitter). The FM transmitter works, but not well. The signal it emits is not strong at all, and as a result, you can barely hear Siruis from my car stereo (irrespective of what channel you select). The problem is not acquiring the signal from the satellite to the Stiletto (that is very good); the problem is the car kit emitting the single to the car stereo. I assume, but have not yet tried, that connecting the car kit via the audio output will solve this problem, but if you intend to use the car kit without an audio output line, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. It will result in nothing more than frustration.
