Well made great sounding small speaker. If you need affordable small bookshelf front speakers or surround speakers, these speakers are for you. Athena also makes WS-100 & WS-60 speakers. As a home theater system they are very good. The WS-100 is a slim floor standing speaker and the WS-60 can be used as a table mounted front speaker or center speaker. The WS-15 can be used as the surround speakers and a center speaker depending on your available space. Get a good 10" subwoofer to support the low end and you will have a great system. I have been into hi-fi audio for the last 30 years. Take it from me, these speakers are all you need to hear great music at a reasonable price. You can get a pair of the WS-15 for $80. The WS-60 are $99 a piece. The WS-100 are $299 a pair at AUDIO ADVISOR.
I bought 2 WS-60 speakers & the set of WS-15 speakers. I use the WS-60 panel speakers as fronts for my Sony XBR4 52" LCD television. One WS-15 is serving as the center. The other WS-15 will be used with my living room system. I have no need for surround speakers. I have a 10" Paradigm Ultra cube subwoofer for the low end sound. The subwoofer was not bought through Amazon. Paradigm does not sell over the internet. You must find a retail audio store to buy them at. It is powerful and small and has top ratings. It was the biggest cost at $799. If space and high power is not a concern you can find very good subwoofers from Klipsch. Athena sells the 10" 4100 subwoofer for $149. I am not able to comment on how good it is. I have not listened to them and cannot tell you how its 100 watt AMP holds up over time. I bought the Athena speakers through the Amazon website for security purposes. Saved on shipping and taxes and they were delivered within 5 business days. On: 2008-03-28
The Athena WS-15 speaker pair was purchased for use as rear surround speakers in my home theater system primarily because they are small, come ready for wall mounting with three angled slots on the attached mount, and are rated for 100 Watts RMS to match up with the rest of my sound system.
I am just about 20 hours along breaking in these speakers, but my initial impressions are very good. My testing of these speakers has consisted of wiring them into the speaker B outputs of my receiver and switching the fronts from my Wharfedale Diamond 7 series bookshelf speakers to this Athena WS-15 speaker pair while previewing a variety of audio tracks. The Wharfedales have a more balanced and fuller tone quality to them whereas the Athenas sound very good but the tweeters make the highs a bit more pronounced. At a quarter the size of the Wharfedales, these Athenas would even make very acceptable fronts if space constraints necessitated a compact speaker enclosure like the WS-15.
The build quality of these Athena speakers is also impressive with a glossy black metal finish, very solid (heavy for the size), and well constructed speaker. Overall, I enjoyed the sound from this speaker pair and they are ideally sized for rear surround use.
