We just got this baby in after ordering it from Circuit City (was just a wee bit cheaper than Amazon).
From out of the box to watching a DVD was only about 10 minutes.
The picture was great and the sound awesome.
We were willing to trade a bit of resolution for all-in-one portability.
We just watched Fantastic 4 and the Silver Surfer outside on our patio and it was truly a movie theatre experience.
Very glad we bought this item.
Only suggestion - go ahead and order a projector stand. We stacked a couple of phone books on our coffee table, but Im ordering a stand tomorrow. On: 2007-07-26
I have to say this device is great, it is small but powerful. The picture clarity is crystal clear. You will love this device. My husband also uses this device to play his Playstation 3 and it is like play video games on a big screen. However, if I could change one thing I whish the device would have front raisers so you can adjust the picture height.

I did a lot of research on projectors before making this purchase. I was not looking for a $2,500+ unit. I wanted something for the kids to have movie night at home and duplicate the big screen theatre experience. The Moviemate is a sound choice. I took it out of the box and we literally were watching DVDs within 5 minutes. The picture quality is very good. The sound (with the subwoofer) is also good. Sure I could have bought a better unit, but i would have paid a lot more money and have to hook it to my cable box or dvd player. This is compact, portable and an all around good value. I like the fact that we can now take the theatre to the grandparents, who dont get out. I am very happy with this purchase. We bought the Epson Moviemate 33s which is a combo unit that includes the Movie Mate 30, the subwoofer and screen -- an even better value. We have not used the screen yet. The picture is perfect on our light blue wall. It you are looking for an all-in-one under $1,000, you will not be disappointed with this purchase. On: 2007-01-12
This projector rocks. It is simple to use, sets up easily, and provides a spectacular picture. PS2 jams on a 150 inch screen. They say to use a white wall for projection if not using a screen, but I have chocolate brown wall and picture is still AWESOME!!!Built in DVD player is a great feature. Since there is no TV tuner built in, I hooked up a vcr to watch cable too. Sound is good but you definitely want to get the subwoofer that goes with it. This is the best projector for your buck, period! On: 2006-12-23
At first I was a little skeptic about what i was getting for my buck. After seeing this little thing in action, WOW! The picture can be adujusted from about 32" view upto 144"!!! YES 144" thats 12 FEET! OF course the more you stretch it out the less crisp for the quality of the picture. The best median for me was around 83, which is the suggested projection size.
The sound on the unit is okay, its not a surround sound like a Bose home theatre, but its built in to the unit so you can PLUG AND PLAY. The subwoofer helps you get the surround sound enviroment so its a plus! I think it took me about 5 mintues to set up the whole gig and watch a movie.
I would say this MovieMate deserves a strong 4 or perhaps even a 5! Everyones opinion is going to be a bit different so go buy it, try it and be amazed! If you disagree, return it after enjoying a movie at a 144" display! On: 2006-11-29
This is a great product and easy to set up that gives it two stars right there. The third star is for sturdiness, the fourth star is for quality of picture and the fifth is for sound. Its a good Projector, we hooked it up with our satellite and it works great.
The only downfall I see is the cost of replacement bulbs, however you can shop online and find ones much cheaper then straight from the manufacturer.

The Epson MovieMate 33 great portable system. Just about 5 minutes to set up your portable projector and sub woofer, it looks great and sounds fabulous! Nice warranty goes with it also!
