I HAVE seen D-VHS tapes, and they ARE beautiful (plus- all your old VHS tapes are kind of, half-***ed, not really HD also).
The good thing is that theyre up to 1080p HD, and allow up to 2 hours 1080p HD or 14 hours 240i SD recording on each DVHS tape that EVERY set will play/record. Unfourtunately, the blank DVHS tapes are $30-45 a pop and almost impossible to find. They also only cost about $300-700 whereas a BD or HD-DVD recorder that records 1080p can cost $5000 to $12000, but the discs are only $2-9...so pick your poison. (I should note that BD hold 14h HD or 60h SD, and HD-DVD holds 10h HD or 40h SD, though).
The bad thing is that DVHS is dead, meaning that no studio still makes movies for it. I believe there are about 40-60 total, mostly porn tapes, the last tape ever being "Debbie Does England".
