I like good-quality sound, but Im by no means a speaker expert. These speakers put out the sound and are especially good as part of an entire surround system with a subwoofer. Looks great with my all-black entertainment setup. If you can beat the sheer value of these speakers ($129 including shipping), I will be amazed. Shipping service through Amazon affiliate Vanns was fast.

I purchased these speakers from Vanns (an Amazon partner) a couple of months ago for the unbelievable price of $ 99.00...yes the price has gone up, probably for a reason. These are excellent speakers. I use it for my HDTV entertainment system as my front speakers. I have a Yamaha Sub Woofer as well. My impressions are that these are the best speakers on the market for anything under $ 300; at least the ones that Ive listened to. They are truly full range speakers producing excellent treble, mid-range and bass (bass is excellent, but I would still add a sub to really rock the room). The black finish matches everything else I have for my entertainment center (including the Yamaha sub). It produces a rich full sound even when cranked up enough to shake the room (neighborhood). Im using 14 gauge wiring instead of the 20 it comes with because frankly, it can handle it. Be aware that these are pretty large speakers (over 3 high) so they are true floor speakers, you wont be able to put them on a shelf! Were very happy with our purchase!

I have a Entire Sony System that is Digital and it blew out the speakers that came with the system. These New Sony Speakers are Wonderfully Great and sound is very nice!
I plan to buy more Sony Speakers for my Surround Sound system in the near future!
Youll be amazed like I am when you listen to Music, Movies, with These Sony Speakers!

At less than $50 each I was not expecting a whole lot of performance, but I was pleasantly surprised. These speakers will really put it out there. They are small enough to fit into any size room yet are very impressive to look at. Driven by a Sony stereo receiver (125W X 2)they will fill even a large room with superb sound. They would make a great rear channel in a surround system. Firm base (without "booming"), clean midrange and very crisp highs, what more could you want!

Well Im not an audiophile, but this definitely beats my 30 year old 2-ways, weighs less and cost about the same as I paid back then.
Hard to see how anyone could be disappointed.

I recently purchased these speakers along with an Acoustech H-100 to pair with my Onkyo 605 Receiver. I am pleasantly surprised how nice these sound, especially for the money. I will probably get the Sony 6000/7000 in a few weeks, and use these for the rear surrounds, and it should be one hell of a system for only a few hundred dollars. Would definitely recommend to anyone who does not want to spend an arm and a leg to get quality sound.

I just recently purchased the Sony SSF-5000s because they were budget friendly, and the reviews on them were really good. Im not a super huge audio buff. All I know is that these couldnt possibly get any better for the price! I have them paired up with my Sony receiver, and center channel. Ive got a pair of bookshelf speakers for my surrounds at the moment, and I am just loving the new surround sound experience in my apartment! I would recommend these to anyone with a small place/lighter home audio system budget!

I ordered a Polk Audio 5.1 speaker system, with an Onkyo TX-SR705, then I got to looking and saw these for $99. Needless to say I was very apprehensive about how these would sound, well I tell you what for $99 you cannot go wrong, I could see people paying $300-$400 for a pair of these and not complaining.
I am no audiophile nutbag, but these sound amazing paired with the Polks, the bass is even nice and tight, so go ahead an getcha pull and grab some of these for the price you will not be disappointed.
I now have a complete 7.1 system, that plays all the new surround formats, and is THX certified for well under $1000 Guess how happy I am?

I am one hundred percent satisfied with these speakers. They are being powered by a sony str445 receiver (80 watts per channel) and I am absolutely thrilled with their performance. They have excellent bass response and lend themselves well to movie soundtracks as well as guitar hero/rock band parties. However be sure to use adequate wire diameter when hooking these up. They come with wire but it is very small (24 gauge or so). I am using 14 gauge, which according to various resources (crutchfield faqs and such), is ample size for that wattage.

A classical violin player friend of ours complimented us on them while we were listening to classical music, and she has a better ear than I. I bought a sub at the same time but dont really need it, as these are bassy enough. I dont regret it, but if I did it over, Id buy the SSF-6000 without the sub, to save space and a few bucks.

These speakers have great definition and clarity they only lack strong bass but sound great if paired with a good sub.
I used these in my home theater setup as my front left and right speakers and combined with the Sony SS-CN5000 provide a great and inexpensive upgrade to the poor and underwelming sound of little speakers often included in htib systems.
They are great for movies and music as they pick up detail that I missed out on with my small now replaced speakers.

These Sony speakers are just the right price and sound just like the way more expensive ones. You can have the look of them covered or without to show the woofers, great look. Play some Led Zeppelin on them and judge for yourself. They sound way better than my surround sound system I had and cost much less. Turn em up and rock out

First, I am an average listener - let me repeat that: I AM AN AVERAGE LISTENER - and I believe that the Sony SSF-5000 floor speakers are very loud, with good crisp highs, strong mids, and the bass response is absolutely great. If you need earth-shaking bass, you need a subwoofer, but these speakers will kick out a fair amount of bass - enough to feel through your floor. There is no distortion that I can hear, even when I have the system cranked up. Speaker connections were easy, even when I used fat 12-gauge oxygen-free copper wires. The black finish is nice. The cloth grills look great. These speakers match all the other Sony speakers in my system. I hope this review helps you.

Ive been using my 17 year old ADVENT HERITAGE speakers with my equally old, but still pounding it out Pioneer VSX-9300 receiver. Well, the Advent woofers finally literally disintegrated. I know the woofers are repairable, but I decided to take a chance with the low price of these Sony speakers. I cannot tell the difference in quality between the ADVENT speakers which I paid $300 a piece for back in the day. The Sony speakers are great in my lower level entertainment room and Im thinking about getting another pair for the bedroom. Great quality for the price. I wouldnt think twice unless youre a super-duper audio head. I listen mainly to LPs, CDs and DVD movies through the receiver and speakers....all sound great!

This review is not about the product but my experience in buying the product thru Amazon.
First off its not clear if the price of the item is per pair or for one. The shipping weight is at 56lbs but product weight is 27lbs, which leads me to believe its for a pair
However when I call Amazon, they take their "best guess" and say its for 1 speaker only and ask me to call SONY!
Very poor customer service, the outsourced call center in India is patheticly ill informed.

Forget all other audio companies. Sony will always have the highest quality products for the best prices. 3 foot high towers for $50 each??? They must be pretty mediocre right? Wrong. These speakers are wonderful.
They have a full, bright sound and can get as loud as you possibly want (and louder) if you have a decent receiver. There is a great distinction between the tweeter, mid and sub. These are the best speakers I have ever owned.
The only thing wrong with them is if you love extreme, rumbling bass, they might not meet your standards. But a good active sub woofer is a must for any good sound system anyway.
