First, if you are an "audiophile" these speakers are not for you. Go spend a couple of grand for "name" speakers, renew your subscription to the "New Yorker", and have a $7.00 latte at Star$$$. But if you love music and want speakers that will deliver rather than impress those who live by designer labels, these are the speakers you want.
I bought these about three months ago--and love the heck out of them. My tastes in music are eclectic running from Mozart to Mingus to MC5-- everything in between. Since these speakers arrived, Ive played the whole musical spectrum through them and have been pleased beyond words with the sound.
Personally, I might be tone deaf, but I didnt find the bass to be overbearing at all, but then I suppose its all a matter of personal taste. And you can always adjust the bass setting (which I do for each recording I play anyway) on your amp.
My mother had this saying about snobbery, "If you walk around with your nose in the air, you never see the dollar lying on the ground."
That sort of sums it up about the $ value you get from these speakers. On: 2008-05-21
For the price, these speakers are excellent for a start up surround sound as mine is. They are big in size and the sound is as good as I had expected. On: 2008-05-16
JUST THE SOUND I WAS LOOKING FOR! I had bookshelf speakers hooked up to
a home DJ system to include a 22 YO receiver, equalizer and a mixer w/its own EQ. The Sonys have sharp, clear highs and rich, deep bass! The REAL quality of a speaker system is how they sound real low, which is how I have to keep them in my community because of their power!!! CANT BEAT THE FREE SHIPPING, EITHER!!!

Did not expect the pair of speakers to be the height it is. Audio tones is good, but not as deep bass as the older speakers that it replaced. I am rating it at 4 of 5 stars. On: 2008-04-03
Purchased sony SSF-6000 speakers because I like value and they had good ratings and were inexpensive. I was not satisfied and returned them for the upgrade to Polk R60s. The Polks sound much better and now feel I have the "value" speaker I was looking for. If you truly want that "amazing quality" sound, however, you will have to spend much, much more than either Sony or Polk, but I am not that picky and very happy with the Polks. On: 2008-03-25
Sony SSF-6000 Floor Standing 4-way Speaker Pair w/ 3 Year Extended WarrantyThis was a great purchase. The speakers arrived only 3 business days after I ordered it and I went standard delivery. The box and the speaker were in great condition upon arrival. The set up was easy any the sound is amazing. I have an old Yamaha NAS receiver and it was brought it back to life. They are paired with a set of Yamaha A-40 bookshelf speaker the seperation and sound accquity is excellent. I am very happy with the performance. I thought the grills were a little cheapish for the rest of the construction but, all-in-all a very nice, form fit and function. Would have got 5(five) stars but the grill though nice looking, is (Plastic) cheaply constructed. On: 2008-02-27
I returned these speakers after listening to them for a week. These were for bedroom use. I listen to classical music mostly. These speakers reproduce solo instruments, such as piano, guitar, or violin, quite well, but orchestral music comes out muddy and unpleasant. At best, you feel that you are listening to the orchestra from behind closed doors. The price is good for what they are but dont expect perfection if you are fussy about sound. After returning these, I spent about twice as much and bought a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 60 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker, Cherry Finish (Single). They are considerably better -- and worth the price differential -- although not perfect either.

this item shipped as advertised but usually reserve better reviews for items that get shipped quicker than proposed On: 2008-01-25
I bought these from CC and tried them out for about 3 weeks. I thought they sounded good. Then I decided to also buy a pair of Polk Audio R50s from Frys for $60 a piece. I hooked up one of each speaker to my Technics 100 wpc stereo. The difference is amazing. The Polks have a much cleaner sound. The highs on the Polks are more pronounced. This SONY speaker seems muddy in comparison. I like the cherry look of the Polks better. Since the Polks are also cheaper, dont buy these. The only problem is that Polk is phasing out the R line so you may not be able to buy them for too long after this review. The SONYs are being returned. On: 2008-01-16
Id been wanting a theater system upgrade for months, but Id never purchased Sony speakers and I have to admit I was a bit reluctant. After reading several reviews I decided "Why not". I bought 4 of these SSF 6000s and placed them in each corner of my living room on 12" solid oak stands. I have a 47" Phillips 1080p LCD HDTV, Sony 250W sub, Sony center channel speaker, Sony 400 Mega DVD/CD player all powered by a Sony STRDG1100 7.1 Channel Surround Sound A/V Receiver. WOW !! with the HMDI connectivity Im seeing detail and hearing things Ive never heard or noticed before (and Im meticulous when it comes to detail). Significantly enhanced sound quality from the JVC 3 ways and Technics receiver Ive had since 1993. I listen to smooth jazz and watch a wide range of movies so without a doubt, Im very happy with my entire system performance. I think the key to experiencing a true home theater is to have the right gauge speaker wire, gold plated contacts and ample wattage output with the receiver, sub and speakers you choose. Highly recommended product. Well done Sony. On: 2008-01-07
Realmente tienen una calidad exelente, sonidos claro, con tanta nitidez, los sonidos tan melodiosos y bien definidos, es la mejor compra que alguien puede hacer en Speakers, se lo recomiendo a todo el mundo, son realmente magnificos. On: 2007-12-02
Well...after carefully researching speakers in my price range, which isnt much and seeing I literally hate to get ripped off, I opted for these Sonys. I made the right decision. At first I had them hooked up wrong...had one connected as a front speaker and one as a back. Alright, So now you know Im a dork. I thought I might need extra tweeters when I had them wrong, but after rectifying my mistake I discovered I needed no such thing.
Bass is strong and solid, mids are great and the highs are ample...very pleased. I am an Infinity speaker fan and seeing I cant afford my glorious infinities these were their substitutes. I had a pair of Infinities once and these are serious contenders. I am astounded at the sound and power. I was looking at some Acoustic Audios on ebay due to the price and the claims...yet was told they are garbage, actualy I suspected as much. So for $132 delivered, you cannot possibly go wrong with these Sonys. Yet I will confirm what the other reviewer stated...order 14 gauge speakerwire when ordering these, its just shy of 6 bucks and worth it. These come with what I expect is 25 gauge.
I am Daniels wife and am totally glad Daniels research for the "Best"
speakers has ended.
I have personally had very expensive equipment in the past and have to admit I am impressed with the sound system and speakers he has chosen.
Daniel was very concerned that the product would not deliver what was promised and I have to say that these speakers deliver.
You wont be disappointed.
Dont let the price tag fool you. On: 2007-12-01

I normally stay away from sony and would never think of buying speakers from SOny. But i needed 2 speakers for the bedroom, and they were cheap enough. When i hooked them up i was shocked how good they sound.
The sound that these speakers produce is way beyond my expectation it has a wonderful distinct, deep yet thumpy bass while it doesnt loose any of the other range.
With these speakers you do not need a woofer.

well its a wickedly big sound from a not so big name speaker. the speakers themself are literally big but sony? well they got this one right my friend. big time bass that is clean. i am using a 500W x 5.1 channel pioneer vsx-517 av receiver. even when its at max the bass is tight. it fills my large living area with sound. the design is not a "head-turner" however, so i got black which is great for me. when my friends heard it they all (5) decided to order a pair as well. im glad i didnt pay to find out how much better sound you get from $500 JBL speakers. LOL! On: 2007-09-27

By way of background, I bought these to replace a set of old Soundesign speakers canabalized from a bookshelf system that died long ago. They are being driven off an old LXI rack system which is still getting the job done despite the absense of micro-chips. Hooking the SSF-6000s up, I was initially dismayed by the noticable hiss at lower volumes and in the high range. To be fair, I was in such hurry to hook them up I used to crummy speaker wire provided with the set, something I will rectify soon. The speakers really do well in the low range, however. I cranked them up and went into the other room to see how the sound carried, and litterally my house was shaking. I could not beleive how powerful they are, given that at the local electronics store, they are selling the bottom of the line 2-way bookshelf for $100 and telling me that for the kind of money I wanted to pay, I could basiclly expect the same tinny quality as the speakers I wanted to replace. The SSF-6000 is a definite upgrade; I would rate them "4" if you like to listen to classical at low volume, but for the price, particularly if the music you listen to has the driving bass, easily a 5. Also, although the cabinets are solid, the covers seemed a little flimsy to me. On: 2007-09-24
I purchased the Sony SSF-6000 speakers as part of a modestly priced home theater system. A 57" Toshiba DLP HDTV is the "heart" of the system, with a Yahamha receiver and center channel, Radio Shack subwoofer, and Proficient in-ceiling rear speakers.
For the money, its hard to imagine a better choice than the Sonys. The dual mids provide ample "oomph" for any broadcast programming or DVD. The clarity and separation are outstanding and the tweeters provide clear highs without being harsh.
If you want more than a typical "theater in a box" but dont have mega-bucks (my entire system, including the HDTV and custom installation, was right at $3,500), Id definitely recommend the Sony speakers for your front towers.

I got these speakers a couple of months ago. I used it replace my little satelite speakers from my sony home theater system. A definate upgrade in sound quality. It make subtle sounds like wind chimes clear and life-like. I was very impressed. One warning for online shoppers. These suckers are huge. You cannot imagine it by looking at the picture online. It came in a giant box that make you think you just bought a small sofa. If you have a TV smaller than 50 in its going to make your TV look small. It still looks big next to my 52 inch but I love it because I am a total loser :). If you want to go for the sophisticated, clean look dont buy this. But its awsome if you want to tick your significant other off with 2 big and ugly things in the living room. Take off the cover for the full effect!
