Sony speakers are almost always condemned by audio salesman. Dont believe them. I matched up these Sony 7000 towers with the Pioneer Elite Integrated Amp and the sound is simply spectacular. Voices sound like they are in your room. Close your eyes and you will swear the violin is only a few yards away. The clarity is simply amazing. I spent months scanning audio websites before choosing the Sony and I made the right decision. My excellent results are for stereo only. I have no idea how they may sound in a 5 channel setup. But if price is a factor and you need towers, this Sony is a spectacular bargain. On: 2008-06-15
I bought these to replace two small Sony fronts for my surround! I am not dissapointed although the sound is not truly superior they fill the bill very well. On: 2008-04-27
If you are on a budget, you will not find a better pair of speakers that can handle the power and sound this good. I use them mostly with an Art SLA1 100W/channel amp for mixing music.
The only problem is that the grills are very cheap. They were both broken when the speakers arrived from Vanns. It has been 1 month and I still do not have replacement grills. For some reason they even sent me to Sony.?? It is not Sonys responsibility!
Bottom line...Im impressed with the speakers, not the customer service! On: 2008-04-21
I needed speakers that were good for listening to live concert band performances. My budget could not handle the Ifinity or JBL. I heard the Sony 5000 with a subwoofer and it sounded great, especially with the small price attached. I immediately ordered the 7000 speakers and couldnt be happier, The sound is crisp and clean and very "Band" friendly. I do recommend a subwoofer be used to get the fullness of the bass that is preferred. On: 2008-04-21
These floor speakers sound great! I cant say they are the best out there, but for the price, you cant go wrong! I upgraded to Sony SSF-7000s from a pair of Polk R300s (Polks cheapest set of floor speakers) and the difference is amazing! The Polks sounded pretty darn good, but it only had a mid and a tweeter, so it didnt produce a strong full sound. These Sonys however, give off a much fuller sound, even at extreme high volumes. However, to get a strong low response, I had to crank up the bass on my receiver and really give it some volume. Along with the 7000s, I purchased the Sony SA-W3800 sub, which rocks! When both the 7000s and the 3800 sub are paired, you get a great full sound and movies sound more than amazing! I highly recommend purchasing the 7000s if you seek strong front speakers with a full sound. I also want to mention these speakers are tall - Approx 4-feet in height. On: 2008-04-03
im a sony fan but i have to admit i was a bit worried. i sampled the ssf-5000 pair at best buy and compaired to polks and klipsh speakers with the same number of same size drivers the sony seemed a bit, lacking, despite the lower price they were unacceptible imo. but while i was there i realised that im in an open area with a reciever thats probably calibrated for the more expensive set, not using the subwoofer which i would have in my home setup, while at the same time possibly underdriving the sony. i knew i wanted more drivers than the 5000 anyway, but was worried if it would be enough to over come construction short commings if i was only to get more of the same.
i paired these up with my str dg1100 using 16guage cable and the sony fth-200 5.1 flat set to complete my 7.1 system.
after the auto calibration, the ssf-7000 has suprisingly excellent dynamic sound range, and it has a more precise mid range responce and reproduction than the klipsh i sampled earlier, but take that with a grain of salt because any short commings there might likely have been taken care of by my quality reciever vs the lesser model samsung reciever that BB had on display driving them. as is the sony style over all its products, exacting reproduction is valued over warmpth and fullness. i prefer this, its like chosing the 720p plasma over the 1080p lcd because of better contrast ratios and color reproduction when you know youre too far to see the full resolution anyway.
while the ssf-7000 is not ugly, it wont win anything for looks compaired to other similar offerings that cost considerbly more. i give five stars at this price because if you want value, quality, a price that cant be beat (esp if you are doing it way you are supposed to and using the same speakers for 6 of your 7.1 setup.) and preformance that will exceed the standards of all but the most extreeme audiophile or martha stewart when set right, than look no further. for style and true high end preformance, drop some dime and get something else. Makes my music come alive! The sound is terrific! Good Bass, I think a subwoofer helps but isnt necessary. These speakers were shipped to my door in less than a week. Worth every penny! On: 2008-03-14
I have had these speakers for a little over a month now, and they have performed very well thus far. I have the SS-MF750H (the previous version), and they are essentially the same speaker with cosmetic differences. I have spent a lot of time researching and testing speakers for three different home theater set-ups in my house, and these have the best value for performance. I have tried them as fronts, side surround and rear surround, and they have been amazing at each listening position. I would personally recommend using them as side surround or rears in a 7.1 or 5.1 system if you have a larger budget, or as fronts in a more budget friendly system with the complement of a higher end center channel and a decent subwoofer. While these speakers do a pretty good job with the bass, I have found it more enjoyable to add a sub to handle the lower frequencies where the SS-F7000s can struggle a little. Overall, for the $139 + free shipping from amazon was a steal for the qaulity of the speakers On: 2008-03-04
I picked these up to replace the front left/right satellite speakers that came with my Sony HT-7000DH surround sound system.
These match the system and surround speakers/sub woofer exactly. Its like they are made to go with the system.
Sound is fantastic, bold, bright, and best of all they work in conjunction with the original satellites -- thanks to Sonys foresight making the HT-7000DH use up to two sets of front left/right speakers at the same time.
They are dramatic in look and sound, for the price youre not likely to get this much speaker in another "name brand". If you already have a Sony surround sound system that is fairly recent, these will work flawlessly.
Perfect 10/10! On: 2008-03-01
I received the speakers on time, They were very easy to setup.
They sound Terrific. Very good bang for the buck. On: 2008-02-18
I bought these because a consumer magazine rated the performance of this models predecessor a "best buy" in floor standing speakers. They even beat out some very expensive Polks for sonic accuracy. After getting them installed, they didnt disappoint. Excellent highs and more than adequate bass especially considering the price paid. by: avraamjack On: 2008-02-02
A better deal would be 3 Sony SS-B3000. For 3 times $86 ( $258 ) you would get a total of 6 8 inch woofers, 6 3.25" mids and 6 1" tweeters.
If you get the Sony SSF-7000 for $250 you only get 4 8 inch woofers, 2 3.25" mids and 2 tweeters. So you get 50% more woofers and 200% more mids and tweeters if you get the 3 Sony SS-B3000 for the same money. However , you have to know how to wire it all together. On: 2008-01-29
GOOD SOUND QUALITY.
1 SPEAKER HAD A CRACKED GRILL AND SONY HAS NO REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR IT. On: 2007-11-27
Wanted to update my home theater setup and still be able to enjoy 2-channel sound for my music. Was wary of the price (you usually get what you pay for) and the fact Sony is not really known for loudspeakers. Figured if they didnt work out as my main speakers, I could use them in my bedroom system.THESE ROCK!! Excellent sound quality wheather watching a dvd ("Pulp Fiction" to "March Of The Penguins") or listening to music (Nickelback to Rush to Bach) they never miss a beat.I paid about$150.00 for the set. Heavy, but very nice to look at and their narrow design fits perfectly in my living room. They get many compliments!! Would def.recommend ESPECIALLY at the price. Save your high-priced audiophile snobbery. On: 2007-10-31

Im not the foremost authority on speakers or anything, but I listened to about 30 or 40 pairs of speakers trying to nail down where to start my home theater upgrade. I didnt want to spend 300 bucks on a single speaker, so that ruled out several brands that produce high-end floor speakers.
I was becoming dismayed until I heard the ssf-5000s (the single woofer model) and decided that I should give sony a shot. I hunted down a pair of the 7000s and wow. I almost couldnt wait the 10 days it took to get them home.
Its amazing what a good set of floorstanding speakers will do for an audio system. The sound from these suckers is just so BIG. Granted its not Klipsch or Polk, but for someone trying to build a home theater system on a budget, you will not be disappointed. These will fill a medium sized room with rich sound.
I dont have any complaints about these speakers at all. Everything from Guitar Hero II to Transformers to Mozart sound rich and full like they should.
If you have the money to spend these probably arent going to do it for you, but if youre looking for speakers you dont need to take out a loan for, these are it. On: 2007-10-12
These speakers are very satisfactory unless you are some kinda of audiophile nut. Great value and they will impress most people, and yes there are better speakers but what a bargain! I typically dont care for Sony products but Samsung doesnt make speakers... Good choice for front home theather speakers. Note- Sonys front channel speaker is also decent. Rear speakers not so much...

Purchased and Received these speakers just a couple days ago. The free shipping was great considering the weight of the speakers.
They are great! No complaints here. I was upgrading from my original aiwa speakers (made by sony) in my home entertainment system. The difference is amazing. Highs mids and lows are all great. I always recommend a powered sub woofer, I do have one. However, if you get these speakers you can get by without one.
My listening interests are varied. I have listened to Kiss, ELO, The Hollies, Peter Frampton, Supertramp and some classical on these speakers so far. I have also viewed a couple movies using them. All sounded great. "Do You, (Feel Like I Do) sounded GREAT! All the ELO was crisp, clean and clear. The only "booming," as mentioned in the other review, that I heard was while listening to "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" by the Hollies. However, it did appear to be a bass sound that was appropriate with the song, not anything abnormal. But then again, it may just be different taste.
Oh, and the picture shows the speaker as looking more of a grey than black. They are black, not the grey like the picture shows. that is good since my tv and all my entertaiment system units are all black.
My advice is you cannot go wrong with these. If anything changes I will update. On: 2007-06-03
The reviews for the previous model, SSM-F750H, were good so I bought a pair of these to replace my retreaded Advents. I listen to a wide range of music including 70s & 80s rock & roll, jazz, new age, and classical. The SSF-7000 reproduce highs, mids, and upper lows great. However, there is a significant resonance on very low frequencies that causes the speaker to boom on the low end. Im 54 so maybe its just an age thing but booming bass is not what I want to hear. I bought a pair of Polk Monitor 70s and did a side by side and found the Polks much better. Its too bad because the SSF-7000s did such a great job on everything but the very low end. I had to pay almost 3 times the price of the SSF-7000s to get the Polk Monitor 70s. On: 2007-06-02
