Per a friend who happens to have a better ear for sound, pitch & tones. He listened to my system and gave the approval of it producing good sound. Ive received other compliments from others as well. Mostly they are in disbelief like, "that little box is pushing all that sound", and "it sounds so crisp." Im content with my purchase. Get one of these, you wont regret it. On: 2008-06-09
I have the Sony STRD510 receiver and 5.1 speaker setup and this center channel is perfect. On: 2008-03-22
These speakers are quite a buy. Excellent sound. You would really expect that they would be twice the price. Friends cant believe what we paid for them. Very pleased. They also look very nice in room. On: 2008-02-23
I got two of these for my center and surround back channels on my str-dg710 sony processor. I have two surround sound systems. My other one is all pioneer. Its six channnel also. My center and surround back on that system is the pioneer s-hf11c. The sony and the pioneers are the same size woofers and tweeters. The sonys make me disgusted I bought the pioneer speakers. At higher volume the pioneers distort, the sonys just dig in and keep making crystal clear sound just shy of max volume. Granted the pioneers were 30 bucks cheaper at 60 bucks, but who wants to spend any amount of money for something that you cant enjoy comepletely. In my humble opinion sony cant be beat for the amount of money spent. On: 2008-02-16
Cmon, everybody else is cutting center channel about 20KHz and tries to start a way lower than 85Hz... The center channel is for ***dialogs*** and 85Hz-50kHz is very strange choice for normal human speech...
p.s. You do NOT have to use all speakers from same manufacturer especially for entry-level system because they are not so precisely matched within a line (unlike may be high-end systems) and I hardly believe that Sony was able to design this speaker to match Sony SS-B1000 5.25" Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) and Sony SS-B3000 Bookshelf Speakers with 8" Woofer (Pair) and Sony SSF-5000 Floor Standing 3-way Speaker (Pair) to work with this speaker, so I totally see no point to go with this speaker versus picking better-balanced center channel from any other manufacturer. Using with the rest of the speakers as a matched set. Sounds good and balanced. Good for second surround system when you want a better sound than the TV. Plays Rock through CDs pretty good! On: 2008-01-19
I can sometimes hear some distortion on some programs, not sure if thats the speakers fault or the programs audio, but either way, be warned. On: 2008-01-16
This is my first center channel speaker. It certainly adds to the quality of sound when watching 5.1 movies, compared to stereo. This speaker seems well constructed and sounds good (Im hardly an audiophile, but have been a musician most of my life). On: 2007-12-14
I own a Htib with tiny satalite speakers and a big subwoofer. I really liked the features and looks of my home theater system but I must admit that it was a bit of a strain listening to conversations on broadcasts and dvds. Rather than start from scratch I replaced my center speaker with this and the left and right speakers with the sony ssf-5000 floor speakers.
Now its amazing the how great movies and broadcast are with this speaker especially since I paired it with the floor speakers!
I was afraid it wouldnt be good quality or poor audio since I didnt audition it before buying, but I am very pleased and since owning Ive compared center speakers at best buy and circuit city and see how this stacks up well in size and craftmenship to speakers that cost alot more money. Sony has value for the buck when it comes to their entry level speakers.
I started with the Onkyo TX-SR 750 to put together a nice Surround Sound System, then added the Sony SB3000 front - SB1000 rear, SA-W2500 Sub and the SSC-N5000 and have a nice system for an apartment.
The system is more than I need but it does sound nice and I didn`t break the bank, I would not hesitate to reccomend the SB1000 for front speakers for those on a tight budget as they were great with a 10 year old RCA surround sound amp I replaced.
All of the Sony speakers in this series are a bargain for those in apartments where ... really using ... more expensive speakers could get you evicted save the extra bucks for a box of Dots to eat with your movie!
Great value!

The Sony SSC-N5000 center channel speaker (which I mounted on top of my television with two strips of Velcro) is definitely loud and clear enough to do its main job, which is to deliver dialogue. No screaming highs and no thunderous bass, but thats not what this speaker is for. The frequency response is good, though, and overall this is a very nice speaker. Well-constructed and heavy. This speaker matches all the other Sony speakers in my system. I hope this review helps you. On: 2007-11-11
