Very easy to operate, uncomplicated controls,so small you can carry it in your shirt pocket. Does exactly what its supposed to and does it well. I take it to dance classes and then save the session to my computer. Pics taken from video look better than some still cameras. I love this this little recorder. On: 2008-11-16
So far, for the money, this is the best camcorder Ive ever had. Easy to use, so it gets used. On: 2008-11-11
My 12-year old Daughter wanted a video camera for her birthday because I had recently purchased one for myself. I didnt think she was ready for a camcorder, plus I didnt want to spend $300. This was the perfect solution. I paid just over $100. and this thing is amazing. The picture and sound surprised me at how crisp and clear they were. We went to dinner and then to the mall and she was shooting bits and pieces here and there. At the end of the day, she used the Classic selection to edit it all into one video clip. We were blown away by the finished product. It turned those clips into one beautiful video with music playing in the background. Its as if the camera had a mind of its own as it seemed to highlight the most important scenes. She absolutely loves it and I was so impressed, I may buy my older 2 kids their own for Christmas. Great product and a great price! On: 2008-11-11
We love this flip. Its cheap, easy to use, light, and has good built-in software for posting videos to Youtube. It also has a great microphone. It picks up sound from the person taking the video and everyone around it. The other thing that I like about it is that is uses 2 AA batteries. Its nice to have a piece of electronic equipment without a charger to plug in! On: 2008-11-09
I bought this for my 6 year old grandson. Even he can work it. Easy, small, great overall. On: 2008-10-31
I have an animal rescue and I have been looking for an inexpensive video camera that would take great videos and this is the one. It is a no brainer to operate. If you want a good quality, inexpensive camera get this one. On: 2008-10-30
Great little gadget that will get the job done. SUPER easy to use and really handy. Quality of film isnt extra clear, but good enough. Make sure and hold the camera as steady as possible. It has a tendancy to be quite shakey. Overall, exactly what I was looking for! On: 2008-10-28
My band bought this Flip video camera as a back up for our recent tour and it worked even after dropping it in the toilet! We shot over 35 hrs of video and now were putting together a mini-movie of the tour with five girl bands...maybe well post it here if its not too XXX. We love our Flip camera so much were buying 3 more so each band member has one!
Flip Video Camera - f@*#&+! rocks!

The Flip is an awesome innovation. For about 90 dollars, you cant go wrong. Its easy to use, has nice resolution and is very convenient due to its size and no need for mics and other add-ons.
The one draw back is that getting vids off the Flip requires downloading software from the web and following several steps. For a computer novice, it might be a roadblock. They need to figure out an easier way to do this with newer models.
But once we figured out how to get the vids off the Flip, everything was great. Its a really cool video camera and I highly recommend it. On: 2008-10-24
Great product. Purchased it on sale for $89. Bought it to record my baby son growing up. Its light weight and I bring it everywhere i go. On: 2008-10-11
I bought this gift for my mom, who isnt very tech savvy. She had it figured out in one day and already sent me a video via email. With kids and grandkids all in different states this is perfect for her to share all her special moments. Awesome gift! On: 2008-10-09
This little recorder is so much fun to use. The controls are very simple and the quality is great. I lost the first one I bought and replaced it right away. Great product On: 2008-10-09
The camera is great fun for those in close moments. Definitely not the camera for all of your family memories to keep forever. The quality is ok for the price you pay, it actually within about 20 feet of shooting, the quality is just fine. In trying to use it for anything further out in distance it gets pixelated and begins to blur.
Overall it really makes a great present for your young teenager and actually can serve as a dual purpose parenting device. Because just like with Girls gone whatever, kids seems to still do the same stupid stuff even if there is a camera on them and sometimes only because there is a camera on them. So its funny (and concerning sometimes) to see the videos and audio of whats being done when your not around.
This produces pretty good quality youtube videos and actually looks good when plugged into the tv directly. Like I mentioned before, the only knocks against this are videos taken for long distance viewing, and low light gets a little grainy. But what do you expect for less than hundred. On: 2008-09-10
I recd the package right away. We took it on vacation to the beach and it was so easy to use and it took great videos. So light in weight, we had people asking us all the time what type of camera was it and where could they get it. Would recommend to anyone that wants a reasonable lightweight camera to take on vacation to film the kids. On: 2008-09-08
We purchased the camera for our son to videotape his cartoons. He has done several projects and is very happy. We have used it to record trips and events, especially for his grandmothers who were unable to attend the events. The camera has done a great job for us. The sound is a little bit tinny but the picture was great. We are very pleased. On: 2008-09-08
I thought it was great when i first bought it for my wife. I figured it would be great for all the kids activites that were always attending; but 2 weeks later my 2yr. old daughter got a hold of it and bent the USB connector. Now I cant use it to connect onto anything. I called and emailed the company, but their response was: "at this time there are no parts available to repair your problem."
Bottom line, its not kid friendly so take care of it! On: 2008-09-08
We used it to film my daughters wedding and it was easy to use, great video quality and even easier to upload to TV screen or to pc to make a disc. Best gadget I bought this year!
Not a big learning curve.. just point and shoot and ya gotta love that! On: 2008-09-06
This camera is the coolest! Not only is it easy to use, but the picture quality is actually superior to the camcorder I own. Not to mention the ease of uploading videos, to Youtube, Facebook, or just to share with friends. There are no complicated cords or software - just plug into a USB port and go! The camera does all the rest! On: 2008-09-05
I bought this for my brothers birthday. He absolutely loves it. Its small enough to carry around and capture lifes moments on the go.
The only complaint is that once you upload the files onto your computer, they are too large to email out to friends and family. Otherwise, its been perfect. I highly recommend it. The price was right. On: 2008-09-05
Takes great movies, is so easy to put on the computer. Love that its so small. Youll be glad you bought this one. On: 2008-08-27
LOVE this little camcorder. Easy to handle when videoing my baby. I always have a hand free to steady the baby and still get the video I want. On: 2008-08-13
This is my second one; the first one went hay-wire after a couple of weeks. I got a replacement in time to take some really great shots but then it dropped from my hand to a table, maybe, six inches and wham! it wont play now.
I think it needs to be a little more resilient and able to withstand a minimal jostling around.
Otherwise, it is really easy to use. On: 2008-08-08
I absolutely love this little video camera - I admit that I am not big into electronics so this works great for me - I use it a lot when Im visiting the grandkids as its great to whip out for a few minutes of cute stuff and you can get a lot on in the 60 minutes allowed. My granddaughter loved sitting with me and watching herself on it so it really made for a nice sharing time for the two of us. On: 2008-08-01
Very convenient and the quality of the video is alot better than I expected.
Im very happy with my purchase On: 2008-08-01
I purchased this camera because it was simple and compact. However, it may be too simple. I took the camera on my trip to Italy. After three weeks of shooting, I realized I had gone slightly beyond the 60 minutes (by 2 minutes). Instead of automatically stopping the process, it deleted my entire film except for those two minutes. When shooting outdoors, the glare of the sun does not allow you to read the settings. In addition, the instruction book makes no mention of this factor. I cannot express how disappointed I was to not have the film I shot over three weeks. There should be a feature that stops the filming when the 60 minutes is up and allows you to reset when you are ready. On: 2008-07-31
... everyday like for projects, video sharing or even memorable events that dont need a lot of zooming, this is for you.
easy to share and save videos for your collection. On: 2008-07-28
Considering our use of the product it has worked flawlessly and up to expectation. The cameras produce quality video, perfect for capturing "at the moment" clips of life happenings. Such freedom enables the editing in of various clips to enhance any video project. They could also be used for families on vacation or for a special event. With no tapes or recorders necessary simply plug the camera into your computer, copy and paste the video clips and you are ready to share them. How cool is that! On: 2008-07-23
I love the Flip Video Camcorder! It is so easy to use and also easily plugs into my computer to view my video. It can also be used to watch video on my TV with the cables to do this included but I have not used this feature yet. I am not an expert in camcorders but I can tell you that I am very happy with my purchase and the quality of the video Ive taken at special events is quite good. I would highly recommend this product to everyone! On: 2008-07-23
This is the third flip video purchased this year. All recipients are thrilled with the clarity of the video and the quality of the sound. On: 2008-07-20
The FLIP Video ultra is so easy to use even I can do it! Its small and compact and features easy access to unload files to my computer. The only drawbacks I found were the audio pickup and having only 60 minutes of time on it. I had a ball taking video with it, and just shortly after I got it, I put together a video presentation for a co-worker who was retiring. It got rave reviews. Again, a great investment for the money. On: 2008-07-19
I bought this for my daughter BD, she used it once on that day, and once more the next 3 weeks, only about 3 minute-used, suddenly the Flip stop working, thought it just batteries, changed fresh batts, but NO LUCK!
SHE WAS VERY VERY DISSAPOINTED! NOT-RECOMMEND! On: 2008-07-13
Overall it works great - I wish I was more into doing videos, I take it with me and forget to use it half the time - LOL.
The only negative is that the movie-making software that is comes with really sucks - very limited. On: 2008-07-12
I find this video camera to be the easiest thing to use EVER. You dont even need instructions on how to use it. Its super easy and mine will hold one hour of video which can be transfered to your computer easily then deleted in the camera itself. Radio talk show host Clark Howard recommended this on his show and I am a faithful listener to Clark, I tried it and LOVE it, i recommend it myself. Walmart sells this camera for $149, and you can order it here at Amazon for $110 including shipping. Make sure you get the 1 Hour 2 GIG camera not the 30 Minute 1 GIG, 30 minutes isnt enough for the price theyre pushing on it. I totally recommend this camera 100%, especially for the electronically challenged people out there. The software that comes with it is easy to use and sets itself up for you to just plug the camera into the usb port, hit the button and the program downloads it for you where ever you want it to go within the software program, you have 3 options, email, hard drive, and burning to dvd, its so easy to do...really...cant say enough about this product....LOVE IT.... On: 2008-07-10
Flip is ok for what we need, it was alittle concern that no software came with the product and we are not high-tech people. we just wanted something easy to use which this is easy to use, wasnt so easy to download to the computer so we could play with the video. On: 2008-07-09
I assumed this would have a connector for a tripod, which is very important to stabilize during shooting. I am teaching my kids to make their own films, but their hands are very shaky. I was truly annoyed that a simple connector was omitted on this model. I hope it is on the other ones, but it is hard to tell. Why do they sell a FLIP tripod if you cant use it?
Otherwise, everything is great about the FLIP. Weve gotten great little movies made out of the supplied software, and the sound quality is great. A good value, but try to buy a model with a tripod connector if you can :( On: 2008-07-05
This is a great camera for short recordings. It fits right in your purse and is easy to use. It plugs right into your computer for easy downloading. If you plan to post to You Tube with it, as it is compatabile, make sure your videos are no longer than 10 minutes each as that is all You Tube allows. Stop recording and then start again for easier downloading. On: 2008-07-03
I read David Pogues review of the Flip in the NYT and that clinched it for me, particularly at Amazons price. I know the rechargeable model is now out, which may explain the deep discount. Dont shy away from the battery operated model, however; its not like early digital cameras that ate through batteries rapidly. It is as easy to use as smart guys like Pogue claim. I love it, my wife loves it, my kids love it. The image quality is only good but having something this small and easy to use makes up for a lot. On: 2008-06-24
Small, simple and super!
Great camcorder that plugs into the pc to immediately share videos on the web or to store on your pc using the USB port.
Also playable on tv with included RCA jacks.
Software automatically loads from camcorder to pc.
I carry it in my pocket everywhere. We were shopping for a refrigerator and recorded pictures and sound for review to compare at home.
Operates on AA batteries. CDs made at CVS (and others) for $12, or you can make your own if you have editing software, etc.
Buy a male/female USB cable extension (about $9) to connect camcorder to pc. More convenient than plugging camcorder into USB port (which you can do).
Probably the best $105 I ever spend on audio/video equipment. On: 2008-06-19
I bought this item because Clark Howard raved about it. He was absolutley right. The Flip is so easy to use. Sound quality is better than I expected. It even has a zoom feature. The Flip is just fun fun fun. On: 2008-06-14
DO NOT BUY. I bought this only to make some Halo 3 Machinima and it sucked. I asked a guy at Best Buy(where I bought it) if it has the attachment for the tripod and it didnt. Almost every time I recorded it fell off. And if you recorded something on the cam and deleted it,it took off that time. As i kept deleting I only had 26 mins. left. Not to mention how bad the quality was. And it was also hard to put the videos on YouTube. It wont save to a folder to upload. Bottom line DONT BUY. On: 2008-06-13
I really like my new flip video. I use it when visiting friends homes or on other trips. (We just got back from Cape Cod) I download the videos into the Flip Video Library, then I move the clips into Windows Movie Maker. From there I edit, add music (my only complaint is that I cant use most of the music from the ipod music I saved,I have to rip an old cd and put it into mp3 format)....Then I put in transitions (which are really fun). I burn everything onto a dvd and send it as a gift to the person we visited. My entire edited version is usually about 12 minutes. If I go longer than that, I dont have enough ram memory to handle it. The quality of the picture is good enough to show the dvd on a 56 inch tv. The zoom doesnt show up nearly as clear as the regular shots. On: 2008-06-13
This is an amazing product, in particular the great audio that this hand held recorder produces. Thanks, Roland Ledet On: 2008-06-05
I took a chance and ordered this and I have not been sorry. The batteries last a long time and its so handy to carry around in my purse. I take it everywhere I go. It is easy to download the video to my computer, which is all Ive used it for so far. Im thinking of getting some for Christmas presents for grandkids. On: 2008-06-02
I recently purchased the Flip Video Camcorder for my eight-year-old nephew to use on a Jamaica vacation. He needed to complete a daily journal as a school assignment. I knew that a video would help him painlessly record detail to include in his writing and that commentary and interviews would provide stimulating support for his written journal summaries. From the moment we "took flight" he captured his experiences; he had no difficulty manipulating the easy to use Flip. Besides this ease of operation, the small size and weight for undemanding transportability recommend this camcorder for the young and the novice to capture experience and events. On: 2008-06-01
This video cam is great. I bought it for my 6yr old daughter with Autism. She absolutely loves it!!!! Its easy to use and she figured it out right away. The picture is very good I was surprised. It hooks up easily to the computer and the videos come out very nicely. My daughter likes to take it everywhere. She took it to the zoo last weekend. Now my wife wants one for herself. I highly recommend this for kids or anyone else! On: 2008-06-01
i bought a Canon TX1 weeks before i won this at a lottery at work. I have been using it to capture videos of my new born and absolutely love it. And my far flung family loves getting the videos which i can upload without any effort. On: 2008-05-29
Exellent product, I have really enjoyed this Video Camera
The only problem like other cameras is not being able to see what you are taking in bright sunlite, other then that it is great. On: 2008-05-27
It is the easiest camera to use!! Unfortunately after using it for about 2 weeks it would not "turn on". Support suggests you uninstall and reinstall the software which in most cases takes care of the problem; however, not in my case and I had to send it back to be repaired. I almost went out and bought another while waiting for the camcorder to be returned...its that easy to use. I also have a Canon hand camcorder and will probably never use it again because the Flip has 60 minutes of point and record storage space. Plugging it directly into your computer via the USB port (I have a Samsung Q1) makes it the perfect travel partner. On: 2008-05-25
Worked from the start and easy to use. No problems at all. I would buy another one. I really dont see that much of an advantage by buying more costly Flip Video Camcorder. On: 2008-05-22
This is a very easy to use video camera. Only issue is that it is not great for filming stuff more than 20 ft away. On: 2008-05-17
For the movie-maker on a tight budget, this gadget will do the job and do it well. The software can be finicky, as it wont recognize another Flip camcorder and will crash, forcing you to retrieve the video straight from the cameras internal folders. The video quality is top-notch, but if youre looking for HD or advanced video editing, you might want to save a few extra hundred and get a more professional camcorder. Also, do not record any lengthy clips as they will not transfer to your computer; keep them down to a few minutes at most. No memory cards or tapes needed, its a handy tool needing only 2 AA batteries. For more versatility, as in a short tripod, an action mount, or an underwater case, you will need to put a few more dollars into the Flip Ultra.
A great camcorder for the price. On: 2008-05-16
Cannot say enough about the Flip Video , and how fast it got here. I opened the box and used it in minutes. Good service and product. On: 2008-05-15
I love this camcorder. I purchased it online so that I could use it to record my stand up and upload it to you tube and it has not let me down yet. The only thing bad I would say is you must keep a lot of batteries with you if you are going to use it as much as I do because you need AA batteries to power it up. But I honestly think this is the best invention ever well besides the microwave, well theres the car and the stop light and how about the ...well you get the point its a really nice camcorder and its afforable. On: 2008-05-15
I bought this for my daughter for her birthday. It takes great video up close but is nearly worthless for anything over a few feet.. which I wish I had known before I bought it, since it was mainly to be used at ball games and band concerts.
It is very easy to use, and is a nice size.. I would be much happier with it if it had more distance capability. On: 2008-05-14
I bought six of these for my wedding and gave them to our bridesmaids and groomsmen. They were our videographers and it was so cool to get everyones perspective on the festivities. They take awesome video and sound , even in darker areas. our wedding was outside on the beach at night and the video showed up great! On: 2008-05-13
I gave this as a present to a gadget person. He was excited about it, at first. Then, as he gradually discovered its limitations (limited lens, not great software) it became something that will sit in a box. I was sorry I bought it. On: 2008-05-13
I bought this camcorder to take video of my sons wrestling matches. LOVE IT. It is so convenient to carry in my purse that it goes everywhere. It is simple to use and review on the camera or at home. The low price is a real plus.
There are a couple of limitations. The sound quality is not the best, and it runs through AA batteries fairly quickly. On: 2008-05-12
This is the best video camera I can imagine. It is 100% simple and intuitive to use, requires NO special software, and takes excellent movies. Flip has done for movies what Apple has done for music. I recommend this product to friends--it is a cant miss purchase. On: 2008-05-12
This camera is so fantastically easy to use I never even opened the instructions. I can now share video of my infant daughter with her out-of-state family in minutes. It doesnt get very good resolution from a distance, but thats not what I wanted it for. Its perfect for up-close footage. On: 2008-05-09
Ive been wanting a video camera for awhile and this is not it. But just like a simple point-n-shoot still camera this is a great point-n-shoot video camera. Its simple usability is impossible to beat and quality, particularly in low light is outstanding for a camera that costs $100.
For something to carry everywhere or for kids you cant beat it. For anything more, wait and get a "real" camera.
I recommend! On: 2008-05-08
Love the convenience and audio and picture quality on Flip videos, BUT sending them in an email attachment from a PC user to a Mac user is NOT SO EASY! In that situation they are not "openable" without other internet-obtained downloadable software--and sometimes not even then! This problem needs to be addressed by the company in a free upgrade that trully makes it the "easy" internet video transfer, as advertised. On: 2008-05-07
I gave this Flip Video as a gift to my married daughter. I had a opportunity to try it out, and now I can see why they love it! Its simple to use and the picture is cleaner than most digital cameras with video! Only reason for the 4 star rating is due to the frequency of having to replace the two AA batteries. Even under minimal use, you need lots of new batteries on hand! Other than that, this is an easy-to-use, fun, compact purse/pocket size video! On: 2008-05-04
This is a great little video camera. It is inexpensive, very easy to use and travels well. There are no cables, no rechargers to drag along - just a small easy to use camera. At this price you cannot possible beat it. Cameras that cost five to ten times as much do have better resolution, but this is an inexpensive gem. On: 2008-05-02
Flip Video Camcorder: 60-Minutes (Black)Does everything it claimed to do and has a great picture for the price. It is as easy to shoot the video as it is to play back. Good Buy. On: 2008-04-29
After more that six months of going along on camping trips, being used for various school projects, and capturing snippets of life, our Flip Video Camcorder (the 60-minute version) merits some praise. I never expected this pocket-sized device to be so durable or useful. This is clearly a niche product, designed for producing fairly low quality video suitable for Web postings or dropping into presentation materials. Its portability is another big plus.
The USB flip-out connection is a bit clunky and does not always fit elegantly with some computers. Also the very small control buttons were clearly designed by folks with tiny little fingers who wanted to get a laugh out of ham-handed folks like me trying to press the start button repeatedly. And I would I liked a bit larger view screen.
All in all, though, a useful gadget that could be better with just a few tweaks.
On: 2008-04-28
received in excellent condition, this flip video camcorder is compact enough to carry and film safety hazards. in turn, these are great tools for safety meetings, easy to download and view at safety meetings. thank you! On: 2008-04-27
Camcorder is easy to use and takes good pictures. It is also fun. The only drawback I have found is that sometimes the battery compartment can open if you are trying to put the recorder into a tight container such as the soft pouch you can get for it. On: 2008-04-27
The White 60-minute Flip Video Camcorder is a really Fresh Idea, that fills the gap between
other camcorders, that cost over $250 dollars; as well as provide both a Day-Light based reasonably Sharp Video & just ok Sound Samplings, that I would rate at close to 4-Stars.
Note: Please read all of the other Comments posted by other Reviewers, about the Flip Video
Camcorder, they are all Very helpful. I bought the first Gen 60-minute model, without consulting any Reviews; and since then, there are a couple of Newer generation models, by Flip and RCA. This model cannot capture any video in settings where there isnt enough light!
As a Pro Photographer though, I do have some very good uses for the Flip, which I will post here.
Before I do, as Im writing this post in April, 2008, the New gen models have Improved Functions and/or Updated their software. Also there has been some brand new releases of Low-Budget Video camcorders (sometimes referred to as the college-bound series), by manufacturers like Sharp, RCA, JVC and 3rd line manufacturers, that are just Below or just Above the $200 dollar mark. Also some Cell Phones are very capable of producing Higher-Quality Photographs & videos, as well. Heres some definite easy uses:
* Real Estate Sales or Buying
* Auto, Truck or Boat Buying or Sales (sell or buy junkers)
* Architectural building, archiving
* Art Collection (includes Playboys & other gentlemen mags, or is it rags?)
* Home or Office New Construction (document from the ground up)
* Home cleaning services (before & after the strippers have been there)
* Home, Roof, Driveway & Appliance repairs (dont let them cheat you!)
* Landscaping uses (find out just what the gardener has been up to)
* Medical case documentation (got a disability, need extra cash?)
* Birthdays, Anniversaries or celebrations (who was there & who wasnt)
* Home & Office Inventory, archiving
* Vacations (babes, babes, everywhere ... make it memorable for your Bros)
* Vacation Home Rentals (The ones that you absolutely Loved!)
* Arts & Crafts (includes lingerie & adult shops)
* Music or Art Festivals (extra points for Hula dancers!)
* Personal & Intimate situations (Get an A for your Creativity)
* Spying (He isnt working late at the office or thats not hair gel from the gym, people!)
* Divorce court (I told you so!)
As a Mac user, I was disappointed in that there was some software Editing issues, but being resourceful, I was able to by-pass them quickly. What I do like is HOW EASY it is to plug it immediately into your TV to watch your videos and/or to Email Apple QuickTime Movies.
I would definitely recommend the Extra (male-female) USB cable.
For Mac users, I have been using a Toast 8 Titanium extra Utility, "Motion Picture HD", that has worked very well, for my uses.
And the New Leopard 10.5.x OS, also has some great Video Editors.

I bought the Flip for my daughter who is studying animation. I thought it would be great to have something simple and light like a point-and-shoot camera, but with moving images. And thats exactly what this is. It takes great pictures even in low light and picks up sound perfectly. The only criticism would be the 2x zoom (were used to more), and the fact that you should always carry spare batteries (it uses AAs and they run out in about 2 hours). Im buying another one for myself! On: 2008-04-24
We were looking for a camcorder to record every day events. Since we are planning to travel extensively during the next year, we wanted something handy. We looked for many camcorders in the market. Camcorders that record on DVs or DVDs are difficult to carry because you need to also carry many spare DVDs etc. So we started looking for a Hard Drive based camcorder. However, most good products started at $300 and above. Some cheaper models require memory cards which are expensive.
During all this confusing search, we came across Flip camcorder on amazon. It is one of the most hot selling products and we now know why. Ours came yesterday and within a day we have made several videos and even hosted a few on you tube. It is the most convenient thing you can buy. Extremely easy to use and great for the price. A friend of mine paid 100 bucks for the software that goes with his $300 camcroder while we got both the camcorder and the software for little over 100 bucks!
Flip is not for serious photographers or people interested in high resolution recording. That said, when I hooked up Flip with our TV, the contrast was great and the resolution was fine. It performs much better that camcorders that are almost twice the cost.
Major strengths -
- great for the price,
- very easy to use,
- hooks up to pc, mac, tv,
- free software,
- uses AA batteries that last a long time,
- hard drive records upto 1 hour of video,
- instantaneous uploading on youtube etc.,
- easy to carry (very lightweight),
- craftsmanship is nice, I hear some of the other inexpensive camcorders are made from cheap plastic,
Two big gripes-
- doesnt have optical zoom. Digital zoom is never a good idea.
- you cannot change the resolution.
That said, its great for the money and all our videos have come out well. On: 2008-04-24
I had read a glowing review of this item in the NY Times, so I ordered it. First of all the quality of the video it produces is poor (i.e. very grainy). It is also subject to shaking at the slightest move while you are filming. I have a Mac desk top computer and it also does not seem to work with it. Every time I plug it into my Mac, it asks me to download an update, even though I have already done it. So, it was a bad decision, and it will stay in my drawer. On: 2008-04-24
My 8 year old son purchased this camcorder and he loves it. It is easy to use, durable (has been dropped a few times) and is just the right size to tote everywhere. The films look best shot outside, but overall they are good. Sound is ok also. Worth every penny. On: 2008-04-24
If youre a big time movie producer, or some movie maker buff, this probably wont be your cup of tea.
If you have a little over 100 bucks, and you want to entertain yourself and friends, this is your ticket.
For the price, I thought it was well worth it.
(do get that extension cable to go with it so itll be easier to plug into your computer) On: 2008-04-22
Ive had my camera for about ten days now and have really enjoyed using it. It delivers excellent picture and decent sound for its size and price, great for carrying in purse or backpack to capture moments with much better clarity than a mobile phone. I havent had any trouble with the pop-out USB port, possibly because I use a laptop. It seems to work just fine.
The only thing that keeps this phone from getting five stars is the button layout. None of the buttons are designed to prevent accidental filming, so I did get 45 minutes of the inside of my purse once already. Not too bad, since I could just erase the footage, but it was hard on the battery. More recessed buttons would be really nice. On: 2008-04-21
I bought several of these for Christmas since I have lots of neices, nephews and friends that I buy for. I didnt want to beat my head against teh wall about what to buy for each individual person, therefore, I ordered 18 of these suckers and that is what most got. I got he 60 minute version, used one for myself and fell in love with it, felt like I was giving an unusual but quality product and proud to do so. This item is an inexpensive way to capture the memories that you dont want to loose vs. spending big bucks on a camcorder! It is small, convenient, beautiful picture quailty and so easy to use! On: 2008-04-21
Excellent camera for the web, youtube or whatever other video hosting site you might be using. Not so great a pic on the television. I purchased for the web anyway, so it works purrfect for me. On: 2008-04-21
I bought a Flash vidiorecorder with 60 minuts of recording and got only 30 minuts. It is probably a cheeper model and they sell it and advertize as the standard of 60 minuts.I am dissapointed. This is the 2nd time with Amazon that I Have been had by the vendor. Its a shame. Please let me know what to do.It might be that the seller doesnt know it. But I did not know that a 30 minuts Flash is on the market. On: 2008-04-20
So far I really enjoy the camera. Im learning to edit and everything has turned out just great. On: 2008-04-20
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KMB2DHJ07XFL Ive had this Flip camera for about 2 months, used it moderately (shot fewer than 30 short clips) and taken excellent care of it. Its been a lot of fun to use, the video quality is decent and the file transfer to my Mac PowerPC G5 is easy as pie (instead of using a USB adapter cable, I rest the camera on a stack of CD cases and plug it straight into the front USB port, gently. Not the most convenient thing, but no big deal).
I would have recommended this camera to anyone until today. I was in Prospect Park, capturing clips of local flora & fauna, when I came across a crowd of people in the middle of a field. They were all dressed like robots and they were dancing to music from a boombox. They were waving their vacuum cleaner hose arms and shaking their aluminum foil-clad bottoms.
I reached for the Flip, pressed the power button, and nothing happened. The thing would not power up. I sat on a bench for 15 minutes while my companion and I took turns trying to get the Flip to work. No dice. My companion suggested that maybe a magnetic force generated by the dancing robots had temporarily disabled it.
We gave up, moved on sadly and soon came upon a pheasant in the grass. I took the camera out again and suddenly it was working. I recorded the pheasant in question. Behind her, in the distance--if you watch the clip--youll notice a group of people who used to be dressed as robots. Now theyre just sort of milling around, doing nothing. Unless you have some kind of weird thing for pheasants, this clip is really pretty boring. And whose fault is that, Pure Digital? Never Miss Another Moment, my eye. You will if that moment contains dancing robots. On: 2008-04-18
I really love this camera. The quality is not as great as my Sony Handicam but I use this all the time because it is so convenient and easy to use. Just press on and shoot! Overall the videos do come out pretty well and you cant beat how simple it is to get the videos onto your computer. The software does leave you wanting a little and it is annoying that you have to get an AOL screename to email videos but overall two thumbs up for this little gem. I sent one to my husband who is deployed in Iraq and now all the soliders want one. Its so easy to keep in your pocket and take out and make a quick video. On: 2008-04-17
At this price range, Im surprised by the quality of the video capture, which is quite good. The sound is clear, but there is a constant high-pitched electronic squeal in the audio (not unlike the sound of AM radio squeal) which is either the camcorder itself, or background noise. It comes with a television hookup, 2 AA batteries already installed, literature, black velvet carrying pouch, and a wrist lanyard. I like where they put the hole for the wrist lanyard: on the bottom right of the camcorder, out of the way of the lens. The velvet carrying pouch should be turned inside out...why? because the velvet is softer than the inside, and will protect the lens from scratches better. So turn the velvet carrying pouch inside-out!
Finally, I like the small, portable size: 4 inches tall, by 2.25 inches wide. Its not bulky or heavy, so youll have no excuse not to bring along a video camera.
I gave it 4 stars, because I know they will come up with something better. And one of those improvements could be an SD card slot.

Love the product quick and easy to use, however there is a software glitch that has to be corrected the first time you download viedos. The updated software takes a long time to downloaed. be patient it is worth it. On: 2008-04-12
I read many reviews before I got this camera. I was looking for something inexpensive, but good quality. This is a great little camera! You turn it on, you press the red button to film, you press red button again to stop. When you are ready to save it on your computer, you pop open the usb arm and plug it into the usb port on your computer. The software automatically opens up, you save, then share if youd like. Very simple! So far, I am very happy with this 30 minute camera. I cannot see myself taking long films with this, but only because I wanted to be able to share my new life in a foreign country with my friends and family in my home country. It is perfect for little films. At times, I have wished it was a bit sharper, I filmed butterflies and they didnt come out as sharp as I would have liked, but all in all, I have no complaints with this at all. Great purchase, well worth the money, and actually quite a bargain! I can carry it around in my purse, or in my pocket, and I always have it ready! I love this! On: 2008-04-10
Got mine and the display wouldnt show any picture. Recorded voice ok, but no picture?
Felt like a piece of junk. I expected better for that price. On: 2008-04-07
This Flip Video Camcorder is GREAT! I wanted to know if it was easy to use.... And, now I can say, its Easy as 1-2-3! Its convenient to carry in your pocket or purse! I highly recommend buying it! On: 2008-04-07
Certain that I have always been right, yet unable to prove this to the faulty and selective recollection of others, I ordered this product to prove the accuracy of my past assertations and assurances. Having recorded every important conversation for the past two weeks with this very handy device, I have decided to tout this product as "bunches of fun" rather than a useful tool because, it turns out, video lies about the past, too. On: 2008-04-02
Lame Lame Lame.
After I read about this in the NYTimes I thought I HAD to have one.
Got one, went out and shot some classic footage. The recording is super easy, and the quality looks fine on the devise. However... I cant get it to work on my mini-mac, so tried on my PC. Again, no go. Tried the update and the update just failed, quit with no error msgs. Now my computer doesnt even recognise the device.
I read the fabulous reviews on this thing, and Im totally jealous. I want it to work. ButI read on other message boards that problems are more common than not, so Im tossing in the towl.
Its going back, and my videos are gone. Ugh...crappiest product Ive ever bought...even worse than that Ford Cavalier I got when I was a teenager. Trust me, thats really really bad. On: 2008-04-02
Alright well, first off, Im not Kimberly, but her daughter. I came upon this camcorder for Hanukkah, and I thought it was amazing. Although the zone isnt the best, its really easy to record things and easy enough for my friends to figure out. =P I would recomend it to anyone whos tired of plugging their cameras into a charger time after time, while with the Flip, you only have to replace the batteries, which are AA. I hope you enjoy this product, its really great. On: 2008-03-29
Compact, efficient, people friendly, economical, light weight and saves time. Downloads easily and deletes instantly. On: 2008-03-27
If you want to post amateur porn on the web, this is the absolutely best product. It needs lots of light, but when used in proper conditions, it is awesome. You can hide it on a nightstand or hold it while you are banging. Either way, it is fantastic and provides great resolution. On: 2008-03-24
This Flip Video Camcorder is extremely easy to use and is small enough to keep in your shirt pocket. It can be used indoors or outside without the need for an external light source. Dont expect professional video quality, but the quality is perfect for viewing on the PC and satisfactory for viewing on the TV. PC viewing is very simple - just plug the unit into a USB port on the PC and youre in business. Everyone that sees it expresses a desire to have one. Instead of telling my wife "Hey, guess what I saw today", I can show her.
Its great for recording those unexpected moments with your grandkids, pets, etc. The only thing Im having difficulty with is realizing that the unit will record 60 minutes of video and I dont have to worry about limiting the amount of time I record something. I highly recommend this unit. On: 2008-03-23
My 14 year old son has an older version and he is already trying to steal this one from me. On: 2008-03-23
The Flip is a very cool idea. Camcorder in your pocket! And its pretty fun when your out with your friends and want to catch some footage of one of them making a fool of themselves. But that is about where the cool factor ends. You cannot take stills, which now causes you to carry two cameras. I also had SEVERAL technical problems with the built-in software. I am still unable to edit on the supposed movie maker it comes with because it didnt automatically install and when I try to manually do so following the directions given in the troubleshooting section, nothing. If this camera were, say, $50-60 bucks it would be worth your money. But you are better off putting your money towards a decent digital camera that takes video. On: 2008-03-18
We are on our 3rd camera from Flip because the camera which seems fantastic does not work with a Mac, even though they will lie and tell you it does. We had footage from Paris that took FOREVER to download because the camera kept electronically detaching from the computer. Fortunately we got the footage but it was very tedious. Flip sent a replacement that also did not work with the Mac and a 3rd replacement that we waited 4 weeks for that would not even start up! They wanted us to give them a credit card # before they sent the 4th. Do we want to try it again??? Not sure. After all this I do wish it worked but my faith is pretty weak. My advise. If you have a Mac dont get it unless you have a lot of time to kill and strong nerves. On: 2008-03-17
I purchased this item for a Valentines Day gift for my hubby. We both love it! Have used it several times, very user friendly. On: 2008-03-14
This is why I give the Flip only 1 STAR: If I buy a video camera and take some footage of my family, shouldnt that video then be MY property? To do with as I please?
I would say the answer should be--Yes. However, with the Flip, your videos are not your own. You are limited to downloading them to your computer, sending an email link to friends and family, posting them only on YouTube, or having to take your camera down to a photo finisher and have a DVD made. Im sorry, why should I have to pay Walgreens or some other company to make a DVD for me when, in most other cases, I could make a copy from my own computer for free? As for YouTube, I happen to like using another website for sharing my videos with family--cant do it with a Flip! I have also heard that it automatically puts an advertisement at the end of your video. Maybe this is why the camera is so cheap. Perhaps they should pay us to use it.
The camera itself is fine for kids. It is certainly low priced. I bought one for my 13 year old son. It is very simple to use. There are some irritating limitations though. It does not have a date/time stamp which would be nice to have on the video years from now. And each time you stop recording you cannot restart recording seemlessly. In other words there is no "pause" button and when you restart recording it is recorded and listed as a seperate video. On: 2008-03-12
for the price its ok-
but no still photos, and the zoom is horrible- the usb gives a lot of weight to it when its plugged in. you get what you pay for. On: 2008-03-11
I bought myself a 30-minute Flip for Christmas and have really enjoyed it. Being so small -- and without all the cords, tapes -- it stays in my purse. That way, its there to capture all the fun things in life. The other day, my daughter and I caught the horse down the street smiling. I whipped out my Flip and got a great YouTube-quality video! Ill admit the sound quality can be frustrating, but I just remind myself of the price.

I purchased this product for a gift for someone else, but also received one as a gift myself, from Amazon, so I will do a review. This is a marvelous innovation in video. The Flip Video is easy to hold, operate and small enough to fit into a pocket. The videos come out crisp and clear and the sound is marvelous. I remember years ago, video taping was a bulky, heavy job, but no longer. The Flip Video makes it a breeze. The USB connection on the Flip Video plugs right into the computer to download videos and the cable connects the Flip Video to your TV to watch home videos in full screen color. Also, it does not require expensive batteries. Im very impressed by this Digital Technologies camcorder. Its a great product. On: 2008-03-07
This is a great fun product. I dont think its necessarily very sturdy, and if you want to do a lot of editing, this isnt for you. But its super easy to use, and small enough to carry anywhere. For the cost it would be great to take almost anywhere. On: 2008-03-06
I love the Flip and carry it everywhere. I bought it to video tape our new born daughter for all her adventures. It is so simple to use. It downloads easily and the videos are very clear. The downsides: If you are using a mac, their are not as many features when you want to edit or blend the movies. Another downside is, in order for you to see past videos that have been downloaded to your computer, you MUST plug in the Flip to your computer. (I hope I dont lose it before I convert all the videos to DVD) Other than that, I love it! On: 2008-03-05
This is an awesome little camera for capturing those "oh I wish I had a video camera!" moments. Not for recording once-in-a-lifetime occasions like a wedding or anything, but for everyday use you cant beat it.
Cons: Not great in low light or indoors under regular room lighting; Audio quality not the best; Memory capacity not expandable; No video light; USB arm can be a bit difficult to fit just right in PC.
Pros: Super small, one-handed size - fits in pocket or purse; Buttons so easy a child can operate it with no problem; Software is on camera - no loading a cd - just plug the camera in to your computer - it loads the software automatically and checks for web updates; Easy viewing of videos on camera and easy deletion; Plug the camera into your computer when you have videos on it, and it automatically loads them to the software; Easy to view videos within software, save them to hard drive, email, edit, delete, or upload to a website; Ability to save still snapshots within a video - great for those action shots; With software you can create special themed "movie mixes" automatically, like "playdate" - it adds cute music and cartoon characters running across the screen, or "vintage" - adds old timey music and makes the video sepia colored with the little crackly black spots like you see on old movies, as well as several other themes to choose from - really cool; You can choose to add your own music to a video; Ability to email themed "cards" that look like picture frames with your video playing in the frame; Ability to go to certain stores like CVS Pharmacy, plug your Flip into a special machine, and directly create a DVD of your videos; Comes with a cord to plug directly into a TV to view your videos on TV.
As you can see, for my part anyway, the pros well outweigh the cons. Ive always left my video camera at home when going on vacation because I didnt want to lug around a separate camera case, even with my small mini-dv camera. However, the Flip will definitely be accompanying me on every trip from this point on! And who needs more than an hour of video anyway - just get the good stuff! :-) On: 2008-03-04
Overall the Flip was easy to use and very compact. However the sceen was hard if not impossible to see in bright daylight. Batteries quit prior to using up the 60 minute of recording time. On: 2008-03-02
Its better than a picture camera considering the people i hang out with. I just want video and sound and this product produces just that :D
But the arm doesnt fit on my laptop unless its hanging of the edge of a surface. I didnte really get into it as of late because im so busy, but so far so good.
Its not the extreme professional quality that your looking for, but if you just want to capture hilarious moments with a very easily handled device, this is the video cam to do it with :D
Go ahead and get the 60min, the 30min is probably useless. On: 2008-03-01
When I was introduced to the Flip Video camcorder at a conference, I was a bit skeptical that you actually could get decent videos from such a small and handy device. So, after reading all the reviews I could get my hands on, I purchased mine. It does all that is says it does which, although limited, is quite outstanding for its size. The only negatives that I could find were 1.) the limited zoom on it, and 2.) the mounting and strength of the USB connect, which is readily remedied by using a USB extension. The limited zoom is to be expected in such a small device. Overall, I am completely satisfied with the device, its user-friendly simplicity and the rather impressive quality of the videos it produces. Great price for another hi-tech toy! ...and I like to play! On: 2008-02-29
Got this little recorder for my wife. She wanted something small. Had it for two weeks and love it. Quality of picture is good. Not difficult to plug in the computer and sent to friends. ( Takes a bit of time) All in all, for the price we are well pleased. On: 2008-02-27
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1TOPLV9WSQAMU I love the iFlip but I do have one small complaint. On: 2008-02-20
This camera is so easy to use that my 7-year old plays with it (now, most of the shots are somewhat less than useful, but he has fun). The only limitation is its date/time stamping gets loopy when you change the batteries. On: 2008-02-19
I contemplated returning mine because the installed software did not work as described. Sound preceded the video by about 2~4 seconds. Picture in frame was not the same as when viewed on the computer and it cuts off the end of the video. However it does work with Apples Quick Time. So I will keep it and make it work. It is very handy and all I want it for is for when I do not have a better camera with me and want to record some event. The sound from the playback, on the unit, is way to low to be of any use if you want to view the video and hear the sound. On: 2008-02-18
We needed a camcorder to make short clips of our 2-year old to send to the grandparents over the internet. This is the best camcorder for this task and the quality of the clips are good enough to watch on our hdtv. No tapes or mini dvds to buy. Highly recommended! On: 2008-02-14
Great camera. I am still trying to figure out the software, but if you just video for a few minutes, it is wonderful!
On: 2008-02-13
I bought this camera because the product marketing promised 2 things: 1) a simple, lightweight video capture experience; 2) an equally simple video-transfer-to-computer experience.
The company delivered on Promise 1, but failed catastrophically on Promise 2. Heres a sample of our experiences with the Flips software:
1) First try: software booted up and told me to go get a firmware update from the Flip website. OK. I get to the update site. The firmware isnt yet available for the Mac. Bummer. Theres no place to sign up for an email alert to let me know when the updates ready; Im instructed to check back in "about a month."
2) Meanwhile, I tinker with the software to see if theres anything I can do while waiting. The FlipForMac application freezes while Im exploring it. I force-quit. The computer no longer recognizes my camera. I disconnect it. The camera wont turn off and cant get itself back into video-taking mode. I remove and reload the batteries. Camera comes back alive and seems to be working normally, but my trust is shaken.
3) A month later: The firmware updates available. I download, install and run it. Ten minutes into the installation, the update fails with a big error message linking me back to the Flip website. The website tells me to remove the batteries from the camera, reboot my computer and try again.
4) I do that. The update fails again after 10 minutes. The Finder on my Mac locks up for 5 minutes. I lose patience.
5) Remove camera from computer. Remove batteries from camera (its interface is frozen again). Hard-reboot computer to get out of whatever bad loop the Finder is in. Plug in camera again. Click on FlipForMac application icon. Get error message saying the application icon I clicked on "...is not a Director file." Nothing else happens. I cant force-quit the application or eject the camera. OS freezes up again.
6) Fueled by morbid curiosity, reboot. Throw away installed FlipForMac software and restart. Plug camera back into computer. Try to reinstall the software from the camera itself. The application icon *on the camera* appears to have gone dead. The camera goes dead too -- it wont respond to attempts to eject.
7) Lather, rinse, repeat.
8) Give up. Come to Amazon. Write product review.
This wasnt just an aggravating waste of time, nor was it one of the rare frustrations of using a Mac (see other reviews from Windows users -- XP and Vista both -- whove had bad experiences with this software). Regardless of what OS youre using, there are some basic things that even minimally competent professional software should never do.
- It shouldnt get halfway through an installation before it fails.
- It should never lose track of its own state ("Im dead.")
- It should never lose track of its own initialization sequence after dying ("....this is not a Director file...").
- It shouldnt take the rest of the operating system down with it when it goes.
- It shouldnt leave a user with the impression that the software is a rickety house-of-cards held together by luck.
This company has invested its resources in excellent marketing and good industrial engineering (the camera itself). The software -- a big chunk of the user experience -- is clearly an afterthought. Responsible software engineers spend a lot of time thinking about edge-cases that will mess things up and figuring out how to handle failures gracefully. Those software engineers are expensive, and the Flip company has decided not to bother with that expense.
You can drive over a bridge a lot of times before it falls down. A lot of people are going to get to the other side just fine, and those people are going to give their experience with the bridge a decent review. The mark of a responsibly engineered product is how decently and gracefully it recovers from failure.
When it fails, the Flips software fails horribly and it doesnt recover at all. I worry about what else it takes down with it. Potential Flip buyer, beware! Will *you* be one of the Flip users who has a catastrophically bad experience with the software? Are you willing to take that chance because the product and its marketing are cute? I wish I hadnt. On: 2008-02-13
Basically you just take this camera out of the box, insert batteries and its ready to record! The Flip camera fits easily into my purse and I have captured some awesome video moments that otherwise would have been missed!
Sometimes if you are recording a large group the sound quality is not as good as with a traditional video camera, but the picture quality comes out great!
I am a "techno-idiot" and managed to hook it up to my computer and download the videos within a few minutes. Very easy to hook and play on a t.v. screen as well. On: 2008-02-12
I just bought this item and have already made two movies with it. It is so great for the price and very easy to use. I love it. It is small enough to throw in my purse and works easy and has great videos. It is very easy to load on my laptop and share with my friends and family!
I would recommend this to everyone! On: 2008-02-09
The camera is easy to use and I would give it a great review except it broke once right before the end of the very short warranty period. I could not get any computer to recognize it. I tried three PCs and two laptops. Nada. I sent it in for warranty repair work. they sent it back saying nothing was wrong, enclosing a DVD of the video on the camcorder. A few months later -- and outside the warranty period -- and -- it is no longer working. Same problem as before. This thing is a dud. On: 2008-02-08
Got this for my son in college. Now I get frequent photos and videos, cuz its soooooo easy to use and plugs right into his Mac computer!!! On: 2008-02-05
This thing is absolute crap, with even worse support from the manufacturer and Amazon. I returned it, at my expense, to the maker b/c Windows wouldnt recognize it. A month later it comes back to me WITHOUT the accessories I shipped it with. Now it has the same problem again, and Amazon says Im past the return date--yeah, by one week, and because the camcorder was supposedly being repaired.
Dont buy this piece of garbage. On: 2008-02-05
CAMERA STYLE PHOTOS/VIDEO ----------WORKS GREAT, BUT BATTERY LIFE SEEMS TO BE SHORT. MAKE SURE YOU CUT THE CANCORDER OFF YOURSELF RATHER THAB WAITING FOR IT TO CUT ITS SELF OFF IS THE OLY ANSWER THAT I KNOW....... On: 2008-02-02
Extremely easy to use, but thats the problem - my whole family, including kids, takes videos with this and we end up with hundreds of useless videos. Also, it does not "pause," so when you stop recording, then start again, its another video. I have NO idea how to put them together into one big video. Its like the old-fashioned cameras with film, when you end up with a lot of useless pictures you keep anyway. We have some great moments in many of these videos, but cant figure out how to edit out the bad stuff. On: 2008-02-02
I like the camcorder because it is easy to use. The only problem I have with the camcorder is that it uses the batteries quickly. For example, I had to replace the batteries after using the camcorder for about an hour and half. I suggest getting a camcorder with internal battery. On: 2008-01-30
I have had nothing but trouble with my camera, and whats worse, when I sent my camera back, they lost it! I can no longer get hold of them on the phone. I see the house of cards starting to tumble. Caveat Emptor! On: 2008-01-28
The Flip Camcorder creates AVI files which iDVD and iMovie can not read. I had to purchase QuickTime but I am still having problems. The UI that comes with Flip does not work with Leopard. The camera is user friendly and takes nice quality video. Removing video from camera to MAC is also a challenge. Flip needs to provide better support to MAC users. On: 2008-01-28
I gave my husband two camcorders for Christmas. One was expensive and complicated and the other was the Flip Video Camcorder. We ended up returning the complicated one and keeping the Flip. He loves to take it along with him wherever he goes and has fun playing back the video on our TV. He also wants to put some of the video on the computer. A great gift for someone that doesnt want to get real serious about recording video, but just wants to have fun with it. We are very pleased!! On: 2008-01-25
Great and easy to use! WARNING: VIDEOS ARE NOT EMAILABLE!!!
We got this for christmas, so after taking a bunch of videos, I decided to download them to my computer. After attaching the files to several emails, I started getting messages back that they only came through with audio, no video.
Yup... its right. The MPEG-4 format that these videos are shot in are not compatable with most peoples basic setup for media player. They must either download software for $20 or you have to load the flip onto each computer that you want to watch the videos on. Very upsetting. They do have an online host, where you can upload to and then your friends/family get a link to that website, however the video and sound quality are poor at best.
It was very upsetting. We are very pleased with the ease of the unit itself, the quality of viewing it on your computer is great... but this formatting issue makes it almost impossible to share great moments with others.
Sorry flip, but you are a flop.
(had to say it) On: 2008-01-24
I love this thing! The Flip Video encased all of the wonderful memories I had in Vermont, and when I uploaded the videos onto my laptop it only took a few minutes each section. Though, there was a glich on the first upload, but I when I plugged it into my main desktop and was connected to the internet, a prompt came up and it was fixed within the half hour.
Its a great addition to the family as well, for those impromptu home video moments! On: 2008-01-24
The camera is great but its not working well with MAC.The worst thing about it is the package. Its not possible to open it to a point that a hurt my self really bad trying to open the product..Good camera but for a PC users.I hope Steve Jobs will come up with something simular that will fully work with MAC b/c we all know PC is s..t. On: 2008-01-23
I got a flip video for my son and daughter-in-law at the other end of the country to keep me current on my grandsons life and growth. All they do is point and shoot, plug into their computer and download and send it to me as an email. So much better than photos! Cheap and easy for all of us. I liked it so much I got one for our end. On: 2008-01-20
Cant remember having this much fun taking movies! Ive purchased several for family and friends. Very affordable and oh so easy to use! Even non-techies can use these right out of the package. On: 2008-01-20
This is a great product, its easy to use, has great picture and sound quality, and best of its affordable. It actually has better picture quality than most $300+ cameras. On: 2008-01-20
I love the Flip Video Camera. I didnt have to read the directions to know how to use it; thats how simple to use this camera is. On: 2008-01-19

We got this camera at Christmas and love it. Its easy to use and upload, and it is small and light so it can be slipped into a purse or pocket. My six-year old son enjoys using it as well -- giving us an interesting little kid view of the world through his videos. We can also easily delete video we dont want to keep. The picture quality and sound is good. Battery usage isnt unreasonable. You dont even need a cord to connect it to the computer, it has a USB plug right in the camera. On: 2008-01-18
I have created quite a library of videos using my Flip, primarily because of its easy plug-and-upload functionality. Its built-in USB adaptor is very convenient. Ive been using this for work-related video and news posts. In addition, i carry it around in case something interesting comes my way. My 11- year old little sister figured out how to use it in about 5 minutes! Great for quickie video, but the audio is not the greatest. On: 2008-01-18
I give this Flip camcorder 2 stars--for potential only. The video and sound were pretty good, especially for the size and light weight of the unit. Unfortunately no PC could recognize the device, so no video could be saved or viewed except for on the Flip unit itself. Ive contacted Flip and returned it, but they didnt even offer me a free return--Ive paid for the return shipping! After about 3 weeks with no contact, I contacted them, and have been told they have received the camcorder, but no fix yet.
In short, get a different brand. On: 2008-01-18
There is nothing that makes me madder than to pay good money for something that proceeds to place an advertisement that cannot be removed at the end of a video! I thought this was a great little recorder until I uploaded my first video to Youtube - then found that an ad which is not visible when the video is viewed on my computer is created on Youtube at the end of the video . For shame, they had a good product, but what customer wants to be a walking advertisement for a product they paid for!!! Mine will be given to my nephews as a toy, for that is all it is. Plus, the software is buggy and crashes all the time when you try to create movies. Save your money and buy a REAL video camera On: 2008-01-15
This is one of my go-to cameras - have used it for Christmas, and out with friends, and just playing around - its easy to use, long enough to record whatever you want, and with the technology you can post your film online!
Its a great price and a fun little gadget to have on hand. Small enough to put in a pocket or next to the cell phone for film opportunity -
Fun!

Great video cam for a kid. Got left in a coat pocket after using out in the snow and went through a dryer cycle and still works. Easy connection to the PC or TV and great fun for the family. On: 2008-01-14
This is a fun easy to use little camera. We have had a blast with it. The camera has been so portable, we even did "toddler" cam and stuck it in our sons overalls during the holidays.
The video quality is good for the price. I have recommended this to many family and friends.
I just love being able to have a video camera at my finger tips-it really is worth the $$. On: 2008-01-14
I bought two 60 minute Flip Top Videos for my grandchildren for Christmas(9 years old and 12 years old). They are thrilled and use them night & day making up their own little movies and programs. After two weeks one of the Flip Tops started deleting everything and showing only 35 seconds available. Although it is a wonderful concept and one is still working, I am very disappointed to have spent that much money only to have it breakdown in two weeks time. My granddaughter is also very disappointed. On: 2008-01-14
item received better then expected. kids are having a great time recording and viewing themselves on computer and tv. definitely recommend as a low cost , fun video recorder On: 2008-01-14
I am ready to return this as it will not download to disc or computer. I called customer support and they were supposed to call me back but never did. Great if it worked, but very frustrating when it doesnt. On: 2008-01-14

If you dont want to spend a great deal of time learning how to use a camcorder, this is the one for you. Easy, affordable and not complicated, I just love this handy dandy cam. Just point and shoot! Thats it! On: 2008-01-12
This little portable video camera is slightly larger than a cell phone and so easy to use. The view screen is sufficient as is the audio for the playback review. Requires current Windows 07 XP or Vista operating versions in order to download to your PC/laptop. The USB cord does not come with the camera and might be required if you have an awkward USB plug location. On: 2008-01-11
I love, love, love this video camera. Its so simple its crazy. And it has the software you need to save videos to your computer. I havent ventured into editing yet, but Ill get to that. But if you want a great little camera thats cheap and fun to use, I highly suggest this one.

I HAVE HAD THIS LITTLE GEM SINCE CHRISTMAS 2007 AND I FIND THAT IT IS
so neat to use, Ihave used it to snap pictures, make a full movie, send to family, when Iam takeing a movie my family cant beleive the clear pictures it takes for such a small VR. My only disapointment is the price came down right after my purchase, other than that I feel this is a great purchase.

High bitrate of around 2mbits+ but with a lot of noise. Very cheap. they capture at 640x 480, double the resolution size of youtube. Spiffy avi format instead of disgusting wmv or mov.
portable light and convenient. On: 2008-01-09
I love this camcorder.
Since receiving it for Christmas, Ive taken it skiing and operated it easily while skiing behind my 5 year old, getting some excellent footage!
It is intuitive to use - its easy to record, easy to play on the tv and easy to download.
Ive even dropped it in the snow, and its still doing fine.
It fits nicely in a ski pocket, jeans pocket, purse and is great for recording spur-of-the-moment fun. On: 2008-01-09
This camcorder has been so much fun! The only thing I dont care for...You cant increase the volumn while recording and you cant zoom in when watching a video. On: 2008-01-08
Im having so much fun with this FLIP! The down loads to the computer was easy. You will not get dizzy watching these clips. Go with the ULTRA series though because this Flip does not have a tripod mount. On: 2008-01-08
I bought the Flip earlier this year, and played around with it but nothing serious. Had family Christmas, and used a lot to film grandkids opening presents, etc. Was so easy to use, upload to PC, and burn CDs for all the kids. Very pleased for an old technology challenged guy. On: 2008-01-07
When my daughter asked for this for Christmas, I was reluctant due to the cost in the past of video recorders. But heres a fun camera thats sensibly priced. It takes relatively clear videos and shes thrilled with the ability to easily upload the videos onto MySpace and FaceBook. Im glad I bought the 60-minute recorder - that extra 30 minutes makes all the difference, and this camera has the ability to accept video cards for additional storage.
Worth every penny! On: 2008-01-07
It is so easy to use and handy! I like how easy it was to upload the videos. The only complaint I have is that it immediately uploads to the software, I wish it was quicker to get it into the software I want to use. But that part was not completely difficult when figured out. I will be getting one for my sister when she has a baby.. On: 2008-01-07
When I bought the Flip Camcorder Amazon changed the price from $149 to $118 instantly. I was not aware that this change meant that I would be receiving a previous edition of this camera without the tripod socket and in white not pink. I have written numerous emails to Amazon CS asking for the correct camera but they refuse to exchange at the same price. All they did was to credit my shipping charge of $6.17 which I did not want. I asked to have a supervisor call me, I asked that Jeff call me, no one called me. So I am not a happy Amazon shopper simply because I feel that some flim flam was used.
As to the camera, it is superb even without the tripod socket. I love it and urge people to purchase it WITH the tripod socket because it can be shaky when using. I used it over Thanksgiving and Christmas both at home and away and put my videos on Youtube for all to see. Its about the size of a pack of cigarettes and very easy to use. Only downside is lack of optical zoom. But it does have a 2x digital zoom which works well with videos but which I never use in my still digital cameras. All in all I gave this camera a rating of 3 because I am annoyed with Amazon but in all fairness to the manufacturer, it deserves a 5.

We bought this product, Flip Digital Video camcorder for our sons, aged 35+, as a christams present. We were worried once we had purchased it as both of them have I pods and other camcorders. We had no need to be worried they were both highly satisfied with the gift, it gives them instant access, via the computer or TV, to the video they have just taken. It is so easy to operate just switch on and point. The quality of the recording is exceptional considering its small size. As we have just said, the beauty of the Flip is its small size, it will fit into a handbag , pocketbook, golf bag, beachbag or whatever you are taking with you. Think how many times you have seen something you would have liked to record in that instant and have not been able to, this solves the problem. Would I reccommend it? in a heartbeat. This is what we call value for money. On: 2008-01-07
You get what you pay for and more. This is SO easy to use and does a great job. I highly recommend this product. On: 2008-01-05
We had a great time with the little Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder -- and for a low-cost, MPEG powerhouse, this is the one to get! For action use like surfing or skateboarding, its ease of use and quality capture is unequalled! Mac users can view clips in QuickTime Player (Pro). Or import the clips into iDVD. Edit and burn DVDs with full iDVD functionality.
This camera beat two others in the hand-held, pocket sized video camera category. It worked immediately with computers without software or even reading any instructions. It works exactly as you would expect as opposed to many of those with cryptic, non-intelligent user interface and controls. NO, it is NOT a network broadcast camera, so dont expect NTSA quality. YES it does produce surprisingly good image and sound -- and its PERFECT for YouTube and other video blogging purposes.
And, if you take a spill and land on it when you hit the pavement, its cheap enough to toss in the trash and pick up another one!
When you buy -- buy TWO ! On: 2008-01-04
This is so easy to use. Typical of many people, I started it up without looking at the directions and did well with it - (usually read directions as an afterthought). The picture is very good, shows up well on laptop and tv - no connection problems at all. I received this as a Christmas gift and will be purchasing them to give next Christmas. by: willkalif On: 2008-01-04
2 AA batteries and off you go. No fuss and very easy to use. I am surprised by how easy and simple this camera is. I do basic tutorials and videos for websites and was looking for something inexpensive and easy to use. This fits the bill perfectly.
The software it uses is reasonably intuitive and aimed at people of all skill levels.
The big question is not whether to get a flip; it is which one to get. If considering one of these cameras take a good look at the regular and the Ultra Flip Video Ultra Series Camcorder, 60-Minutes (White) so you can decide on what features and options you want. I got the basic and found myself wanting a tripod mount which is only on the ultra.
Two batteries for an hour of high quality video and audio? You cant go wrong at this price. If you are a little webmaster wanting to enhance your site with videos this is a spectacular low cost option. On: 2008-01-03
I purchased this to do some videos from off the gas tank of my motorcycle. Any video that you take over 10 minutes is going to be 200mb is size of a simple AVI file. The problem came about that many of the 20 minute videos we took could not be taken off the device. We had to go back out and do a complete re-take of everything we did out-of-town. We tried on XP and Vista and 4 different PCs FOR HOURS to get the videos off the device and could only get a few off it. We tried Windows Explorer and the self contained software, to no avail - Goodbye Flip - Enjoy your trip back. JUNK! I love the way it just dangles out a USB port... On: 2008-01-02
amazon is basically advertising this product, IT IS HORRIBLE
the usb socket= bad idea, can never fit in
the price= an aiptek a-hd Aiptek A-HD 720P 5MP CMOS High Definition Camcorderwith a 2 gb memory card can shoot 1h 05m in HD at 720p(not FULL hd) but it can shoot 6 hours 30 minutes! in 480p(normal definition) plus it also takes pictures, and records voices for the same price.
i bought an aiptek a-hd @ target for 129.99( plus tax) and it is 10x better than my crappy FLIP 60 minutes of non HD video.
i know most of you are buying this for function but my aiptek is soooooo
much better than my flip.
so for the price you should check out the AIPTEK A-HD

I really like this camera so far. It functions exactly as promised. I was a little wary because some of the reviews and comments were negative, but I have enjoyed it, found it very easy to use, connect and view.

Weve had a good experience with this little camera. After a little research (downloaded DivX for Mac) I was able to figure out how to make it compatible with my Mac and iMovie and now I can make wonderful little home movie DVDs at home. It doesnt have the same quality that youd get in, say, a $500 camera, but for the money, it takes a very nice picture and has good sound quality. Easy to operate - we are really thrilled with it! On: 2008-01-02
I got this just to have a cheap video camera so that I could record a few things, and its really great. It is so small and easy to use that you can just slip it in your pocket and pull it out for any event. The only downside is that it only holds 30 minutes of video, so if you are at an event where you need more than that, you are out of luck (unless you are able to save video to a laptop in the middle of it). So its great for short shots, but it can fill up quickly too. My only other complaint is that it shuts off if you leave it on for more than 1 minute. Obviously this is a feature that is meant to save batteries, and it is a good feature, but if you are trying to wait for a specific shot (I was trying to catch otters on video when on a glacier cruise), you may find that the camera has shut off while you were waiting for the shot. So that feature is good and bad. I just used it for the first time on my laptop, and again, it is very user-friendly for viewing your video. I love it, and it is great for 99% of my needs. On: 2007-12-31
Ive bought two of these so far. I absolutely love it. You dont have to read the directions to figure it out. Point and record! Dont like it? Erase the frame! Its that easy. The price for what you get is great. It took me about 10 minutes playing with the flip to learn it. I then bought one for my brother for Christmas, and he raves over it!! You cant beat it. It will be my new gift this year to all!! On: 2007-12-31
First let me tell u this: it is a great bargain for that price. I love everything about this little gadget but, yeah theres a but... the quality of the image isnt great. It is good enough though. Just wanted to say that for future shoppers who may expect a very high image quality cause most of the reviews ive read they say how wonderful the image is and i was thinking damn maybe mine has a factory defect but i dont think so it just the way it is. Good but not Excellent so to speak. On: 2007-12-31
I am very satisfied with this little camera. It does what I want it to do. Not great in dark areas but the audio is awsome. For the money it is not a bad little camera. On: 2007-12-31
So much fun for the kids & adults at an affordable price. Get the cables though. Runs on standard batteries so make sure you get lots of those to start with. Love it Love it Love it.

A video camera the size of a box of cigarettes records up to 1 hour of your favorite instant moments with an easy on/off button, minor zoom and shuttling between videos. Simply plug it into your PC, download the SETUP and you are on your way to editing your own home movies. This is a cool invention! And YES, the Record button does take a firm click - its not sensitive as youll see. On: 2007-12-29
This really is a cool little minicam! I was skeptical about this gadget when I heard all the hype, but it seems to live up to its promise. I can shoot a quick video, add it to one of Flips "video card" templates and zip it off to YouTube or via e-mail in under 5 minutes. Pretty impressive! Why not 5 stars? Alas, the only drawback is that the Flip offers little to no editing capability. As a pro videographer, Ill have to stick with my DV video cameras for real editing. Still, the Flip is great for quick hits and YouTube uploads. On: 2007-12-29
I bought this video recorder for my wife for Christmas, and she loves it. It is very easy to use, and the video quality is better than expected.
The biggest issue I had with this product is its video transfers to the computer. Since it says that it only works with Windows or a Mac, I tried using it with Windows 2000 Pro, and even though the videos were saved to the hard drive, I could not figure out how to view them. Windows Media Player said that they were playing, but all I saw was a black screen without any sound. When I tried hooking up the recorder with my computer running Ubuntu Linux, however, I was able to copy the videos to the hard drive easily and play them without having to use the camcorders built-in Windows-only software. Ubuntu sees the camcorder as a camera and allows you to save the "camera files." The Totem video player in Ubuntu plays the videos without a hitch.
Even though the label says this device is Window-only, it isnt, and thats good! On: 2007-12-29
This is an awesome little camera to throw in your pocket or purse. The videos are pretty good quality and if you want to through something up on youtube, its basically ready to go when you attach the camera to your computer. You can also hook up to the tv and watch your video. It holds plenty of video for those quick, gotta get this on camera and you arent lugging your bigger video camera. On: 2007-12-29
The Flip video did exactly what I wanted: It got my wife using the video camera instead of me. Our other video camera was too complicated. The Flip is a simple point and shoot deal that she feels comfortable using. Shell also take it wherever we go. So now my only problem is getting my wife to stop shooting video of our daughter. Its a great camera for anyone who wants an easy, portable camera. On: 2007-12-29
This is the most fantastic camcorder I have ever seen! For the money, I bought my 5 and 8 year olds one for Christmas, and they have had a blast! They were running the camcorder in less than 5 minutes, and can even load on the computer with no problem. They are not ruff with their belongings, but these camcorders are holding up great!! I cant say enough good things about them. For superior quality, I use my Sony camcorder, but for spur of the moment and fun, this little product is great! On: 2007-12-28
Remarkable unit. Was reluctant to buy it because of its fixed focus lens, but video is surprisingly sharp at any distance--and the 2x digital zoom splendidly "enlarges" without image breakdown! Shot and viewed often for over a week on the same two AA cells. Video played back on a good TV system yields all but compact-CD sound. Panned from a moving car, through the windshield, and still got sharp video without blurring/shadowing. If you can see something, even in really low light, you can record it. SO easy to use. Bottom line: Yields better results than an $800 videocam I bought several years ago...and this one REALLY does fit in a shirt pocket. Dont hesitate. Buy one. Youll love it! On: 2007-12-28
Christmas morning, we used it for about 30 minutes while family opened presents, then spent the next 2 hours trying to save and make sense of what we shot so we could shoot some more. We never got off the computer with anything to save. Cant burn our own DVDs, cant seem to edit and save in I-movie, cant work with saved videos without having the camera hooked up to the computer (which makes it impossible to continue shooting family footage). Tried loading software until we had so many windows opened that we had no idea what we were doing. For something advertised to be so easy (thanks for nothing, Glenn Beck), I should have known it would be a nightmare. On: 2007-12-28
I really like the idea of a cable-free, simple camcorder. However, it doesnt work well with Macs running Tiger (OS 10.4) and is barely usable with Macs running Leopard (OS 10.5). The companys technical support says (in an email) "The Flip Video camera does not support Mac OSX Leopard (OSX 10.5.x), so we cannot guarantee that the Flip Video program will have full functionality." It doesnt even have the ability to easily export videos to a Mac. Great disappointment. Hopefully, future releases will fix this glaring problem. On: 2007-12-28
We are having trouble getting it to download to computer. Not as easy as the instructions say. The first day she used it it froze several times. We had to replace the batteries, which was not a big deal. But it froze again and we had to take batteries out and reinsert them. When it is working she really enjoys it. We are unable to save any of the videos as it is not working with our new computer. On: 2007-12-27
I gave Flips to my teenage daughter and her three teenage cousins for Christmas. They all absolutely loved them. They all got lots of nice things but this was the unanimous pick for "Best Gift". On: 2007-12-27
I was pleasantly surprised by this product. This is a great camcorder if you want something small and convenient. The picture is very clear and its easy to use. I highly recommend this product. On: 2007-12-27
MY 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS HAVING A GREAT TIME WITH THIS CAMERA...THE ONLY PROBLEM WE ARE HAVING IS THIS IS THE FIRST DAY SHE HAS PLAYED WITH IT AND SHE HAS GONE THROUGH SEVERAL AA BATTERIES...BEST TO GET THE RECHARGEABLE ONES WITH THE CAMERA. On: 2007-12-26
If you want a camcorder thats easy to use, and has good quality, get this one!! You can easily upload vids on youtube, and AOL. Plus, you can email them easily to your friends. The only problem, you cant pause recording. You can stop it, but not pause. Only one shot. Besides that, its a great camera for me. It helps me out a whole lot!!!! On: 2007-12-26
This camera was such a disappointment. It recorded really well and I was fine with the quality as youre really looking for something that can be shared with family primarily, but when it came to transferring the videos to another format, TV, another camera or computer it just didnt work. Sometimes I could reboot enough and fiddle around where it would randomly work once, then go back to its bad error message. I tried multiple computers and am certainly computer literate. I dont at all recommend this product. On: 2007-12-26
I own a Mac, and I was expecting a flawless install like with everything else Mac. However, the software would lock up every time I tried playing or editing or exporting a video.
I eventually figured out that I could just treat the camera like an extra drive and copy the movies to my local hard drive. However, since the files are saved in AVI (a PC format), I had to purchase Quicktime pro to open the AVI files, save them as MPEG, so I can then open them in iMovie.
For some reason, iMovie will not just read the camera and import straight from the camera...so I have to go through somewhat of a hassle to get the videos into iMovie. I just deleted the Flip software that came with the camera. It was worthless.
Other than the software issues, the camera is a great unit, though I wish the microphone were a bit more sensitive. Does a great job adjusting to lighting conditions. On: 2007-12-26
I was looking at buying the 60 min. Flip for my 12 year old daughter, but saw the 30 min. flip on sale at BestBuy for $80 (sorry Amazon) and had to take such a good deal. When my daughter opened the present, she didnt quite understand what it was. After opening the Flip box she was video taping everything in the house within minutes. The best thing was, she did not need me to help her set it up in any way, she opened the box and started taking videos of the entire family. She took it to her friends house and videoed their new puppy and later emailed it to her. I highly recommend any version of this product for a older child or teenage who wants the ability to video tape without all the trouble of a camcorder. Also, buy a case to keep it in, it is worth the extra $14.00. On: 2007-12-25
Ok its christmas morning. I open up the camera, take some family videos. Works fine I try to download them to my mac - which is in specifications. Im running 10.4. bogs down, spinning icon, nothing - locks up the machine.
I try another mac that has more disk space (try the obvious) same issues.
I go to the flip phone site - guess what, it reports it needs new firmware which isnt available until sometime in jan. (no specific date)
Companies that sell you things in December that they know dont work / wont work until jan. should be taught a lesson.
THIS IS JUST WRONG.
I rated it one star because amazon wont le4t me rate it zero) On: 2007-12-23
get ready to spend money on a software upgrade for Quicktime if youre a MAC user. youll have to get the QT pro for viewing. Kind of lame.
otherwise its an easy-to-use camera that can go anywhere like a compact. one more drawback is its inability to zoom. On: 2007-12-23
Im impressed! The video from this little camera is very good quality for the money. I have posted three videos on YouTube (TomBK3) that were made with it. I just plugged the Flip Video camera into the USB on the side of my Mac G4 iBook, dragged and dropped the video files from the cameras memory into iMovie, did some editing and saved the results in QuickTime. Its easy, works well and is convenient to carry in a pocket. I may use it more often than the HD camcorder I just bought, although the HD (obviously) has a much better picture, more features, etc.
