MITSUBISHI 73" HDTV IS SPECTACULAR !     On: 2008-07-01

My husband and I bought this high def Mitsubishi 73" tv last October, 2007. We already had a 50" Mitsubishi projection tv that was 13 years old and never needed any repairs. For that reason we only wanted another Mitsubishi. What a fantastic electronic appliance it is. We got the $500 base for free, and with free delivery, free set up by the delivery men, and no tax, it was an amazing deal. Our WD-73733 TV is performing beautifully. I fully expect it to have the same quality as the older model we had.

You cant go wrong with the Mitsubishi brand name and ordering from Amazon. I suggest you check out the bonus deals that Amazon throws in every October thru December. You just might get a free base for this huge tv also.
Couldn't be happier with my purchase     On: 2008-06-06

I searched and shopped for a long time before deciding on the television "investment" I would make. This seemed to be perfect for our homes great-room and I have not been dissapointed in the least.
It is the behemoth of excelent technology at a great price. As others have mentioned, the remote controls take some getting used to. Another thing that takes getting used to is the black screen while it adjusts to differnt resolutions. I strongly suggest purchasing the matching stand. I installed it single handidly (with the help of a ottoman). I found no flaws so far.
My Favorite TV     On: 2008-05-22

I bought this TV as a Christmas present to myself last December, and it has been great ever since the delivery man and I set it up. The picture is extremely clear in 1080i (I havent upgraded to HDMI cables yet so Im not running 1080p). I havent had any problems at all. The fan is a little louder than on my old 42" panasonic TV but what do you expect with such a large set? I dont hear it over my 7.1 channel surround sound - so it is a non-issue.

This is an excellent TV if you have a nice corner spot to set it up in. You could easily spend more for a picture half the size. And it sure is cool when people come over because most folks have never seen anything that big.
Awesome     On: 2008-03-15

You cannot imagine how big this tv is until you get it home! The picture is awesome and i recommend you purchase the stand with it. You wont be disappointed.

EXCELLENT PICTURE WITH EASY MENU SET UP RECOMMEND YOU TO PURCHASE STAND THATS MADE FOR TV
Mitsubishi Scraping the Bottom!     On: 2008-02-28

Mitsubishi once positioned itself on the upper scale of quality video and television products. No more. Its questionable if their DLP sets can genuinely produce a 1080p picture as advertised and their customer service and customer relations is pure garbage. Dont touch this or any other Mitsubishi Television product with a 10-pole. Youll be taken and youll be sorry. Sony, Samsung and Sharp offer superior products and customer service. Mitsubishi has fallen to the bottom of the heap.
Outstanding picture, mediocre sound     On: 2008-02-17

The picture quality really is quite simply outstanding. However, the sound from the built-in speakers leaves something to be desired. Regardless of the settings, it always sounds "tinny". This was especially evident during the Super Bowl. Now, this wont be a problem if you have it connected to your home theater system, but then youll either have another remote to deal with or youll have to get one of those universal remotes.

Either way, this purchase was WELL worth the money. The price at the local best buy was $900.00 (yes, nine-hundred...) more.
Mitsubishi 73 inch TV     On: 2008-02-08

We had a Mitsubishi 60 inch which gave great service and still does and now our new 73 inch is great. I dont think digital service would improve the picture much so we are, at present, not subscribing to high definition. We highly recommend this tv and most of all Mitsubishi.
Excellent TV     On: 2008-02-08

This is a great TV. While standard signals may not look as sharp as on a standard TV, HD channels are incredible. Ive watched Planet Earth in Blu-Ray on this and it is really like you are in the scene. The superbowl in HD was nice too.

Some reviews on this TV mention a loud fan. I never notice mine, and Ive purposefully listened for it. The bottom line is that I regard this as the best purchase decision that Ive made in a long time.
Unbelievable Value     On: 2008-01-22

I just bought this TV after a lot of research. I saw a floor model at a local superstore for about $700 more than the Amazon price - and they didnt sell the matching base. I ordered the set on a Tuesday and it was delivered the following Saturday - five days early! How often does that happen?
There are a few reviews that talk about loud fan noise. I honestly dont hear it. I sit about 12 feet back from the TV and can hear a mild whir when there is no sound - like between commercials. However, taken in context, its about a tenth of the noise an XBox 360 makes.
As for the TV speakers, I have no comment, I havent listened to them. I have a good home theater system (which I would expect anyone buying a large screen TV to have) that completely negates the need to listen through the speakers.
The picture is brilliant - bright and crisp. I have both Blu-ray (PS3) and HD-DVD (Toshiba HD-A20) and they both look amazing in 1080p. The level of detail has to be seen to be believed. Gaming has never been more fun. There are plenty of inputs to spare. Between the TV, my receiver and a Psyclone HDMI switch, I have all of my peripherals hooked up with more ports available, although Im stumped as to what else Id need to connect.
If youve got the room for it, you will not be disappointed by this TV. The matching stand is great too. It holds all my equipment and looks sharp. It comes mostly assembled - maybe 10 minutes to finish.
Get it for your home too..     On: 2008-01-18

We get our HD from Time Warner Cable and you feel like your there when
you watch a travel adventure from a public broad cast station or you feel
like you can sit in Jay Lenos lap or sit on his couch too.

At first I thought the set would be too big 73", its not. We sit about
8ft. but you can sit closer.

The movies using sony upconvert player with an hdmi cable is almost as good as some of the live broadcast which seem to have depth almost like 3D.

May be this will help you in making a decision regarding the 73" size.
Some years back we had a 40" same company and the 40" rear projection tv
was too big for the room. The 40" had a great picture as I recall but was overwellming. The new 73" is perfection plus.

Better than I expected     On: 2008-01-17

I purchased one of these units on Amazon after reading the reviews.
The main complaints I came across before purchasing were

a)poor built in sound
b)unit fan is loud

After purchasing the unit I can say that a is a ridiculous knock because anyone who is getting such a high end TV will also get external speakers so you can do surround sound. The built in sound is as functional as any normal TV but the audio output options in the TV menu make it clear that it is designed to be used with a audio receiver/real speaker system.
Once I got that hooked up I was again amazed.

If you are the type who buys a TV for the screen and a speaker system for the speakers you wont be disappointed.

B is completely unfounded (unless, I suppose, you have the unit in a closet or so tight against a wall the fan has to run full bore to keep the unit cool. The room I have it in allows me to sit so I am around 9 to 10 feet away from the screen when seated which is more than enough. With this setup (the unit is maybe 6 inches off the wall) I never hear the thing. With my eyes closed I can certainly not tell if it is on or off. It gets no hotter than a typical desktop pc power supply.

As for quality I find it amazing. HD TV looks fantastic until you try an HD DVD. HD DVD is so good it makes HD TV look like analog cable. Colors look absolutely stunning (and remember, no burn in). I can think of nothing bad to say about the unit.

Overall the unit is underrated. I almost didnt buy it because the local stores where I went to see it did such a poor job setting it up. It is large so if you have it sit flat on the floor while you put some smaller unit on a stand right next to it the difference in angles is so extreme that that it makes it make the larger unit appear dim in comparison. If both units are on stands you can clearly see that the picture looks as bright and as good as any smaller unit. Worth the money but dont pay the extra $2K for the special remote. It is the same screen and a $100 logitech universal remote works just fine with it.

excellent. t.v.We     On: 2007-12-30

We ordered this t.v. before x-mas and cant stop watching it. Excellent picture and easy connection. There have been no problems. I had a 1984 45" RCA projection t.v. for the past 23 years and never had a problem with it, but this 73" hi-def picture is fantastic. we got a very good deal through Amazon and they shipped it to us with the base, earlier than expected. We had never shopped Amazon before but will from now on.
Great TV!!     On: 2007-12-29

If you want a Really Big TV this is it! I replaced a 57 Toshiba and the difference is night and day. The colors are realistic and true, there is no fan noise at all. The speakers in the TV are sub par but you wont need them with a 5.1 or 7.1 system. I am pretty sure most people that buy a TV this size already have the sound situation taken care of. The TV looks great with HDMI and Component cables hooked up. The TV really shows itself off on HD sports. The DLP is flawless and shows no signs of video flaws. My 360 also looks fantastic and HD DVDs look perfect!

The TV gives you alot of options to customize the picture. The first thing I did was change the lamp setting to low and run the Video Essentials HD DVD. The darks are perfect and the reds outstanding! I highly recommend that you pick this TV, you wont by disappointed!

Awesome     On: 2007-12-28

Had the TV for ~1 month and I love it with HD programming; cant wait for the regular programming to become digital (2009); it is so good that I tend to watch HD programs exclusively. I am a Dishnetwork subscriber, their service is first rate.
The delivery service from Amazon was excellent; the driver help me bring the TV to the 2nd floor-thank God it only weights ~80 lbs; less than the base unit--and he took all the boxes with him!
The installation was very easy--except Mitsu does not provide an HDMI cable--I just happened to have a spare one; I did buy the HDMI cable v1.3 on Ebay for less than $10 with shipping. Ebay is the place to buy the bulb too, for less than $150.
No fan noise problem, it was easy to adjust the color scheme to my liking.
Sound system: I am surprized to read some of the comments on the cheap speakers...They are there to get you started quickly.
This 73" TV is for a home theater system and it should be hooked up to a good sound system; if you dont have one, you need to get one.
I used it with the upconverting Oppo Digital 980 DVD player for all my old DVDs (480I), using HDMI cable, with excellent results
The colors are awesome, the HD picture quality is awesome, the price is awesome ( a 73" plasma is ~$8000, weights over 225 lbs, making a 3 man job!)
If you dont need to mount your wide screen TV on a wall, this is the way to go!!
Get the largest TV that you can afford, you will quickly get use to it!!

WOW! This TV is Great!     On: 2007-12-24

I am a previous owner of a Mitsubishi TV. I had a 65" Medallion that I have purchased 5 years ago. This TV still had a great picture even after 5 years of use, but I wanted to upgrade to 1080P HD. The 73" TV is awsome! The picture quality is amazing, and the features are great as well. The menus and set up are simple also. I highly recommend this tv, it is beautiful!
Biggest and best tv for the price!!!     On: 2007-12-18

This is a monster tv. I love it. Just expect about 15 feet of rom between you and the tv for optimal, awsome viewing.....

Great large HDTV at great price     On: 2007-12-14

I just bought this TV and I was very impressed with both delivery (free white glove) and product.

The picture is truly excellent although some tweaking does improve the quality. This model offers six color adjustment as opposed to 3 (RGB) settings on most tvs. The picture is nice and bright, i turned the brightness up slightly from default factory setting while keeping the lamp at 6500k for maximum lifespan.

The physical appearence is very nice. Obviously not as "sexy" as a wall mounted flat screen but substantialy smaller than my previous 65 inch rear projection unit.

I purchased an oppo digital upconverting dvd player which i highly recommend (not all upconverting dvds are equal). Once again, the up converted DVDs border on broadcast level HDTV signal.

Once again, i highly recommend this TV especially if your looking for a very large screen at an affordable price.
Awesome !!!     On: 2007-12-13

I bought this from Amazon stock.

This TV replaced a 61" 4:3 that I had for 7 years.
I refused to change until I could get a wide screen that would display 4:3 at 61" and was affordable. This TV does that plus the HD 16:9 is incredible.

Shipping was prompt.
The price seemed to low to be true especially with free shipping.
I had prepared myself for dissapointment but was very pleasently surprised.

I have seen MANY big screen TVs but this is the best ever.

Im only allowed a 5 star rating but on a 5 star rating I would rate it an 8.

P.S. Im not an employee of Mitsubishi, just a 6-pack Joe who loves the NFL.
My review     On: 2007-12-12

This TV is incredible! My neighbors watch my TV from their house! I cannot think of any cons with this TV. NONE!!! Sure the speakers arent Bose quality, but they did fine until I upgraded to the surround sound, but hey, who buys one of these and does not upgrade the sound? A deal and a half. I had mine delivered to the door with the stand that is offered with it for $2,704. If that deal can be beat Ill wash my sister in laws Saturn!!! Read my review on the Onkyo surround sound system for more info.
Best of the mid-priced DLP projectors     On: 2007-12-12

I have owned this set for just a little under two weeks. The first thing I did was grab my Avia disk. After adjusting and calibrating, the set looks even better. i had a hard time choosing between this set and the Sony SXRD sets. In the end, I wanted 73" and I like the contrast and detail with the new 6 segment color wheel.

Ive been shopping for a rear projection HDTV for over two years, and this is the one I finally decided was the one.

Fantastic TV for Pice     On: 2007-12-03

I purchased this tv about 2 weeks ago after milling it over for about 4 months. All I have to say is this thing is HUGH. I had looked at it in the store before purchasing it and I really liked the pic. and size. But in my house its a different story. On my tv stande that sits about 18" off the floor the top of the TV is almost as tall as me. Then news people are full size. The deliverey people coulnt have been better. And the fan noise that every one complains about is no were to be found on mine. For the money if you have the room and want a big TV this is the one for you. I have to say that Im in love.
Excellent Picture, Barely OK Sound     On: 2007-11-27

I have had this TV for a few months, and the picture quality is fantastic. HD content and especially Blu-Ray is excellent. I have read numerous mentions of the poor sound quality, and have to agree. The sound is muffled with no depth and sounds like the people have their hands over their mouths. Combined with your home theater system, its a great deal.

Why cant we get true Customer Reviews? It is so obvious that most of the reviews for most products on Amazon are from the Manufacturers or Companies selling the Products! You cannot trust these reviews at all, as they are totally Biased! First, go to a Retailer and look at, and study the product. Then try to find actual Independent Reviews. Very Good Large Screen HDTV     On: 2007-11-15

I bought this HDTV online about 2 weeks ago and am very satisfied, overall, and amazed about the picture provided by this large screen TV. Setup was very easy, given the multiple choices provided by the large number of input options.

My only negative, so far, is the mediocre sound system. Admittedly, I have not tried, yet, to play with the sound adjustment options (bass, treble, etc.). Instead I added a home theater system and, for the most part, use it for my sound.

Overall, for the price, I would rate this a must have for those seeking a very large screen 1080p HDTV.
Excellent HD Home Theater TV     On: 2007-11-15

The Mits 73733 provides excellent home theater experience, particularly in situations where lighting can be controlled. When the color setting is Natural and brightness at 50% (31), the colors are exceedingly realistic, but it needs to not be in direct sunlight. It has a Vivid setting for that, but the colors do not seem as true. Viewing from 10 ft fills the vision nicely. There are no artifacts visible that are common to DLP. The 6-gun strategy seems to work well. Combined with DirecTV HDDVR and 70 HD channels, it is fantastic. Football is like being on the field. MTV HD with the story tellers show is breathtaking on this TV. Movies are fantastic. This is close to overhead projection size and is great color and detail. I do have a very good sound system as the TV speakers only ok. Using a DVI-HDMI cable with my computer provided excellent display on the TV. As far as the up level models, I did not need the features of the 734/833. Good delivery service through Amazon, great price on TV+stand.

Really cool TV...cheaper here than in store, too!     On: 2007-10-19

Just bought this guy a week ago. For TV, it typically stays in 480i mode (choice of 480i standard, stretch, stretch plus, zoom, and narrow). This model has two antenna inputs, 3 HDMI inputs, and two component inputs (suggest at LEAST using the component 5-channel hookup). Has noise filter for video with three levels, deep field imager (clarity for background), and best of all, a LEARNING remote which will intercept and learn your other remote functions! Viewing angle is awesome (the pictures here dont do it justice). It fades out at about 75-80 degrees off-center, so if youre the retard who put your couch there, maybe you should move it or the TV. The base this TV stands on is approximately 47" though the actual 73" table would be the most aesthetically pleasing option. As far as HD capability, Im working on a HD DVD player that actually WORKS for now, so Ill have to post a review on that later, I guess. If its ANYTHING better than the RCA I was running from the DVD player I have was, this thing should perform very well. Color reproduction is pretty awesome and you can set the temperature to save bulb life. Surround option for sound, and does a decent job (though not comparable to an actual surround system, of course). Also has volume leveling for those annoying commercials and viewing filter with passlock for the young-uns. Very well-rounded TV. Will likely repost when I get the HD DVD up and running. Hope this helps!
A beautiful HDTV...     On: 2007-10-19

Massive and compelling in stature, this TV is breathtaking with it clarity. It simulates surround sound MODERATELY well, has MANY inputs for the accessory finatic (4 HDMI...one on front, 2 component...Yb, Yr, Yg, 2 S-video, 2 coaxial antenna), highly adjustable color, and produces a crisp picture when given a HD signal. Learning remote has minor trouble actually "learning" your other remotes functions, but nothing to worry about. Overall it is a beautiful TV and I recommend it. If you run standard definition its quite grainy, but is to be expected; after all, you bought a HDTV to run HD, right? I am resubmitting this review as I was incorrect on some of my statements previously and corrected (in a rather cynical fashion, might I add...thanks ALK) so please excuse my ignorance to HDTVs. Im rather new to the HD world, but am learning. Anyone new to the HD world, I was recommended this TV for its price and versatility versus overall performance from a friend who knows his HD stuff. He pointed me in the right direction, thus I recommend the same! Im happy with the TV and would also suggest seeing the Planet Earth HD series on this thing; breathtaking and worth the money. I think I will stick to HD from now on!
