This camera came in a kit box despite being advertised as body only. It was previously packaged with the kit lens that was at some point removed and the camera was sold as body only. This makes me suspicious that the camera may have been a return or refurbished item instead of new. Since there seemed to be nothing wrong with the camera physically, I ignored it because it is possible that someone only opened the box to replace a kit lens for someone else. But this combined with other issues with this seller leave me with a feeling that I should have spent my money elswhere. The 28-80 lens is a piece of junk and not worth having as target practice. The pictures are all very soft and almost seem out of focus. It is impossible to get a properly exposed picture using this lens. Out of 1500 pictures only 3 came out exposed correctly. The rest were all overexposed or underexposed. I do know what I am doing with settings as I am not a beginner. The 70-300 lens is ok. Not great but not bad either. It is much much easier getting properly exposed pictures using this lens. The pictures come out much sharper than the 28-80 lens, but not the sharp and clear images that you would expect to get using an expensive camera. Overall these lenses are not justifying the cost of buying a Rebel. (I plan to send in my 28-80 lens to Tamron to see if it is just a defective lens because no one else has such a terrible review as mine.) I am still getting sharper images using my $200 point and shoot Kodak Easyshare. The extra battery works fine as does the memory card and reader. I have thankfully not had a reason to need the recovery software and frankly I hope I never do. The gadget bag is really big and bulky and while everything fits, it doesnt fit snugly enough to keep it from shifting around completely. But it does leave you extra room to add more accessories. Overall I use this bag as storage only and plan to buy a smaller bag made specifically for this camera to carry back and forth.
I also bought this with an external flash that was also advertised as new from this same seller. There was no warranty card or instructions (as stated) and the flash was packaged upside down in a box that would not stay closed. It would not work. At the bottom of the flash there should have been a small metal screw, but it is missing in mine. Without it, the contacts inside the flash that cause it to fire, shift so that they are not touching...meaning it does not work until I physically move the contacts together. I contacted the seller about getting it exchanged but was given a number to call their technical support. I tried several time using both numbers I was given and never was able to get anyone on the phone. The very very short return period (10 days) is now up.
With the lens and flash issues combined with how my camera came packaged I am really unsure that I got brand new items and not manufacturer rejects or refurbished items. It makes me very hesitant to use this seller again. On: 2007-07-16
It is a camara very good so much for professionals as for the novices... easy to use and very amusing, with all the functions that can imagine
