Overall it seemed liked a good product, but mine arrived without the FM band working - will not work no matter whats tried. On: 2008-06-04
Reception is pretty good, but the placement of the headphone jack on the side makes this awkward to put in a pocket, the case that comes with it is just a joke (vinyl pocket with a loop to run your belt through -- why not just a clip?). Most annoying is the digital display but analog tuner, dial is easy to bump and lose your station, and after you get it on the frequency you want it can drift.
If you set it on a table and listen through the speaker, it works. Otherwise get something else. On: 2008-05-29
Grundig trade mark is excelent. Unfortunately the design of this radio (tall) and only digital display (it not full digital) were awful for me. The radio always drops and the dial frequency is hardly keeped. It is and old-fashioned one with a digital display. There is no scan and no memories to radio store. On: 2008-05-10
I bought this radio for shortwave coverage during an emergency. The spectrum it covers is great, but there is a ton of drift in the frequency tuner. And, though it has a digital display of the selected frequency, it doesnt use PLL to lock into frequencies. So youll probably notice the tuner continue to change by fractions of hertz even after youve stopped touching the tuner. Im just not very satisfied with it.
I suggest spending more if youre looking for a good shortwave radio. If you dont care about shortwave, then stay away from the Grundig or Eton 300. Get a Sony or some other manufacturer of quality AM/FM radios. On: 2008-03-16
BIG PROS: Its about the size of PDA only a tad smaller. The unit has a nice feel to the buttons with a very accurate tuner dial, I like the fact that it doesnt budge when placing or removing the radio in its pouch so it can hold stations well. Seems very well built, has a VERY long integrated telescopic antenna and nice soft carrying pouch. Signal reception on local AM/FM stations is excellent with some SW bands received fairly clear but location is key too. Did I mention well built? I dropped it accidentally (DOH!) 5ft and it still works just fine, no cracks or serious scuffs surprisingly.
Now for a few minor CONS: the FM band isnt stereo. The LCD is a little smallish. the stubby antenna is part of the case and kinda takes away from its compactness. Theres no provision for radio presets because of the analog tuner and the headphones are Blah but for the price its not really a big deal.
Bottom line: a good little take anywhere companion if you like to listen to the radio and like that SW stuff.
